Splitsville (Perry wanted Texas gone from the Union?)
The New York Times ^ | July 26, 2011 | Alex Beam

Posted on 07/26/2011 5:21:09 AM PDT by JohnBrownUSA

The dubious dream lives on. Two years ago, Texas Governor Rick Perry bruited the idea of a second Texas secession — the state left during the Civil War — to excitable Tea Party audiences. Now bruiting the idea of running for president, Perry has muted his anti-Constitutional proclamations.

I would hope that this is not true. The Tea Party I belong to doesn't believe in secession.

Texas is just fine where it is.

Come on now. If you believe anything the NY Times spews you might as well consider Pravda as the gospel truth.

I suspect it is an attempt by the left-wing to "paint" a potential candidate as a radical.

Take Back AMERICA!

Perry has muted his anti-Constitutional proclamations.

ROFLMAO! There is NOTHING unconstitutional about secession......but one would expect nothing less from the New York Slimes. [IMHO, anyone who uses the term 'anti-Constituional' has pretty much shown themselves to be ignorant on the subject from the get-go.]

There is a huge difference between the petulant concept of 'taking our marbles and going home' and refusing to continue down a path of mutual destruction, but I guess the obvious differences are too subtle for some folks.

The truth is readily available on a google search. Here’s proof that Perry advocated Texas seceding from America.

The Tea Party I belong to doesn't believe in secession.

So you belong to a 'Tea Party' that doesn't support the Declaration of Independence?

Doesn’t anybody seriously see this as kind of a problem for Perry?

I’m a military veteran that had buddies die for America.

AMERICA.

Not Texas.

AMERICA.

If Perry had been able to get Texas to secede from the Union, did those Texas military service members who sacrificed their lives for America, die in vain?

Obviously I’m not from Texas, but like I said earlier, the Tea Party I belong to is about AMERICA, not TEXAS.

If this Texas meme is something that he’s going to run on, then he’s got a problem with many Tea Party voters.

God Bless AMERICA!

Yes he did speak about it and w/barry as president, why not. So now he may be running - so, of course, there is no need anymore for succession - anti-American Barry will be gone.

Perry, the life time “Career Politician”, was just mouthing the popular polled line at the time. Another one of his flip flop moments.

You sir are a liar, this is what he said...Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

“There’s a lot of different scenarios,” Perry said. “We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we’re a pretty independent lot to boot.”
..............No where in that statement did he advocate leaving the Union.

The Tea Party I belong to does not endorse the racist Declaration of Causes of Seceding States:

http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/reasons.html

And your mockery of tying ‘secession’ to the Declaration of Independence is weak.

The Tea Party built America from the ground up.

Even when the going gets tough, the Tea Party will fight to save America.

To suggest a secession from America is an affront to the thousands of American military service members who died to protect and defend America.

If the Texans who advocate for secession don’t have any shame for advancing this unpatriotic madness, then I guess Texas is really lost to America!

He suggested TExas could hypothetically secede. He did not advocate it; however, in a country of uneducated masses and bumper sticker campaigns, the event may well cause him problems. I do not personally take issue with it, I have other questions about Perry but will wait to see how things pan out.

He did not say that and like you said, the truth is readily available on a google search.

Here is the report from the link you provided:

“Later, answering news reporters’ questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.”

He said TEXANS might wish to secede, but he sees no reason for Texas to do that.

He said exactly the opposite of what is being bleated by the NYT and other mindless lefty mush-heads.

Actually, Perry’s comments were made and taken tongue in cheek as notice to the federal government that Texas has an independent streak and there is just so much of their garbage that we can take. Those of us that heard the comments understood that we would not seriously secede but also know that there comes a point when you either submit or fight back.

Are you serious?

Really?

Read closer because Perry’s statement is hinting that Texas might be justified in splitting off from the Union.

Learn how to use CONTEXT in reading!

So let me gets this right.

When the going gets tough, Perry would rather make bravado statements of running away FROM AMERICA, instead of fighting the good fight?

What about the Alamo?!
