A senior judge has been arrested on rape charges after his alleged victim secretly filmed him carrying out the attack.
Judge Albert Murdoch was also allegedly caught on the hidden tape boasting that he was above the law and would use his police contacts to make any charges go away.
His arrest has led to authorities in New Mexico to look into many of the cases he presided over during a 25-year career.
Murdoch, a 59-year-old criminal judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Bernalillo County in Albuquerque, was arrested on rape charges based on the hidden tape.
Police said a prostitute hired on at least eight occasions by Murdoch set up the camera when she visited his home

Do unicorns exist in your world? Prostitutes are whores and sluts who will blackmail people and lie about anything to get money. Remember the Duke case?
I would NEVER vote to convict anyone of raping a prostitiute, as anything they say and do is mostly lies.
Not any more...
Ok, just checking
There may be the questionable aspects to this case, but to say you would never vote to convict someone of raping a prostitute means you think some types of people are less deserving of justice than others. For you its “whores and sluts” who aren’t equal under the law , for someone else its Christians and Jews. If equal justice under the law doesn’t apply to everyone it is meaningless. Being a prostitute is not an offense punishable by rape.
Not to worry. He’ll have a fun time in prison.
I’m fairly certain that if he doesn’t get protection, he won’t be a top anything.
(Prison rape is a horrible thing, which must be stamped out. But every once and a while there is an element of schadenfreude, if not karma.)
How quaint. A 'news media' in America. LOL.
Somewhat like asking if there was a 'news media' in the former USSR, during the height of the Cold War.
How is that? Because you don't have a receipt? I'd expect charges like deadly menacing or brandishing or something, but not theft. Bars of candy don't possess consent they can suddenly withdraw, and to the extent that shopkeepers can withdraw consent for you to be there "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" there might be a trespassing charge, but once again not theft. What am I missing?
Yeah, I bet he wanted to do “extra” stuff on top of the price so to speak.
You are missing consent. I am sorry that you don’t understand the concept. Vendors can choose to sell some items and not others. I’m sure that prostitutes may be willing to do some acts and not others. No real life experience.
Makes me wonder if the girl has a friend or two that went to prison because of his rulings.
I understand the concept of consent, and I realize that prostitutes might offer some services but not others; I’m just not aware that a, say, dime store vendor who has a bunch of things for sale could decide that some of them really aren’t for sale, such that if you take one of them away and put the correct change (including tax) according to its price tag on his register counter, you could be charged with theft. That’s what I don’t get.
There is a different law for that; that particular case isn’t a matter of the proprietor’s discretion but rather federal law prohibiting sale of alcohol to minors. So although I understand that example, it doesn’t answer my question. A candy bar would, though. (Come to think of it, I’ve even seen regulars at a store take something from the display rack and leave a coin on the counter without the proprietor being at the register at the time.)
Second Judicial District Judge Albert S. Pat Murdoch, accused of raping a prostitute, has agreed to retire permanently from the bench effective Friday, according to paperwork filed with the New Mexico Supreme Court.
Murdochs decision, which averts the likelihood of an unpaid suspension while criminal charges of rape and witness intimidation are resolved, came with a statement from his attorneys critical of law enforcements rush to judgment and hurried investigation, which they said had irreparably damaged his reputation.
Judge Murdoch denies the charges and looks forward to availing himself of the same system he faithfully served and protected for the past 26 years, the statement said.

Also, the police only got the video because the prostitute and her pimp offered to sell it to them for $400 as I recall.
I don’t know what the actual laws are but if you go to a store and purchase a candy bar that doesn’t mean you can legally take whatever else you want from the store while you are there.
