Fate of Boehner, Reid Debt Limit Plans Unclear

Boehner rewriting plan; Reid plan saves $2.2 trillion says CBO

Washington, DC
Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Debate and a vote on House Speaker John Boehner's (R-OH) debt reduction legislation was postponed at least one day as the Speaker rewrites his bill.  The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an analysis of his plan. It says it cuts $850 billion over ten years, less than the $1.2 trillion Boehner claimed it would save.

Additionally, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) also postponed debate of his debt ceiling proposal until at least Thursday. Media reports say he is waiting to see the outcome of Speaker Boehner's bill in the U.S. House.

Although the Speaker's proposal is facing numerous hurdles with the defection of some of the most conservative members of his party, media reports indicate that his plan is seeing a resurgence.  Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) spoke on the floor of the House this morning and called on his colleagues to have an "open mind."

But some Republicans have come out in opposition.  Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a conservative member of Congress, is one of several House members who said he would not support it.  He said it does not cut enough spending and he is opposed to creating a bipartisan committee to determine additional savings.

Responding to the CBO report in a statement Tuesday evening, Speaker Boehner said, "We promised that we will cut spending more than we increase the debt limit – with no tax hikes – and we will keep that promise." He is rewriting his plan.

The House Republican conference met this morning and Speaker Boehner opted not to talk to reporters, a rare occurrence after a week of dueling news conferences by both parties.

Meanwhile, CBO released an analysis of Senator Reid's proposal to cut spending by $2.7 trillion. It said it would save $2.2 trillion over ten years, also less than Senator Reid claimed, but more than Speaker Boehner's plan.

Senator Reid said Tuesday that Boehner’s bill is “dead on arrival” in the Senate partly because it would require the President to ask for another debt ceiling increase next year.  Senator Reid said he is “open to compromise,” leaving the door open for an alternative bill to be drafted. But time is running low before the August 2nd deadline imposed by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

The stalemate has led House Democrats to suggest that President Obama invoke the 14th amendment and lift the debt ceiling, without Congressional authorization. The President has said that is not a route he would like to take.

On the  Washington Journal, guests discussed the debt limit debate. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) appeared followed by Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA).

First Dingy’s is senate, while Boehener’s is House, then both bills would have to be reconciled. And there isn’t very much difference in the 2 plans.

Do you want the debt and taxes that go with Boehner’s bill? There is NO DAMN REFORM in his plan, just gutting a few bucks, and quid pro quo donor palm greasing as usual.

Do you want to remain a serf? Because that is what gov’t both elitist parties have made you, with them as your Masters through excess regulations and taxation.

We need REFORMS, not just platitudes.

Try adding these figures up, and don’t forget the $60 Billion in Medicare fraud when you do, my poor $ tree store calculator won’t add these staggering numbers up, and not one of these programs are needed they are Pork Barrel spending by both parties. Yet they are NOT being touched, nor are we throwing the illegal invaders off welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, WIC or SS etc. Medicaid fraud is $63 Mil in just 5 states.

PS post the number when you do, because you and I are paying for all this crap.

Lets add in vacation (sight seeing tours)limitations for congress and the President. And the Mooch must purchase their family clothing out of their own pockets, after all they are multi-millionaires and poor working slobs should not be picking up the outrageous tab for her parties, vacations, clothes and jewels. Did you know she is the first First Lady not to donate gems they are given by other nations to St. Judes? I want 0 to have to use his campaign money to pay for A-1’s time and use when he campaigns. We know he is combining it with an ‘official visit’ to get out of paying the tab for it.

And each federal worker, congress critter, and the Pres. are forced onto Medicare like the rest of us. No more platinum health care plans. And if they resign in disgrace after a couple of terms, they do not get a life time retirement plan along with the platinum health care plan.

It would put a big infusion of cash into Medicare. And throw all the illegal aliens off Medicare, welfare, WIC, Medicaid etc and deport them to create jobs in the USA for American Citizens.

Until they live under the SAME laws as we do, they are Master to our Serf.

I can't post this HP story in FR, but you may like to read it: Forget Obama, Draft Hillaryby Sandy Goodman, a retired producer for NBC Nightly News posted a little while ago.

"But we Democrats have got to draft her to run against Obama, hoping that maybe if enough of us can persuade her that she's needed to save the country -- and put up enough money for her to win -- she'll change her mind. I know it's a very long shot -- and almost too much to ask of a politician who's gone through years of hell. But the alternatives, four more years of Obama, or one of the Republican lunatics or plutocrats currently in the picture, are simply unacceptable."

"It goes without saying that four more years of GOP destruction of our government won't do. Neither will Obama, who has spent the last 2 ½ years in the White House permitting it to continue. He's caved in so often on so many issues that having him in office is little better than having a Republican there. And the continuing poor economy makes his re-election far from certain."

With Clinton busy working on what they are calling "rare direct talks"‎ with NKorea, SKorea, Japan, China while Obama frantically grabs for the spotlight....he's being called a Republican or no better than.. which is traitor talk to the Democrats

3.Bernie Sanders

Sanders says President Obama is so weak in his dealings with Republicans that he should be forced to face opposition in next year's Democratic primaries.

Until they live under the SAME laws as we do, they are Master to our Serf.

Therein lies one of the biggest problems. If we were to cut back by a minimum 20% all the discretionary spending our government does we'd be well on the way to balancing the budget. And congressional/administration incomes, benefits and expenses should be publicly obtained/managed the same as in the private sector.

My “half empty glass” prediction:

—None of any of this is going to matter, because there will not be ANY bill passed, unless it’s to the political benefit to Obama and his democrats.

—Within a few days, our credit WILL be downgraded.

—Obama WILL make sure that our bills are not paid.

—After downgrade, we WILL go into default.

—Our retirement funds will be decimated.

—Interest rises will force many more of us to go bankrupt and lose our life’s treasures, homes..... and our jobs.

—After default, we WILL go into a complete Depression.

—Obama’s media will help him convince much of the public that all of this was the fault of the Republicans.

—Obama and his democrats will smile and say, “that is good”.

Would the last person to leave pre-Obama America. ........... please turn out the lights........

BTW... have you noticed that the Market is headed down, hard?

Unless they are talking REFORM, throwing the illegals out, stopping the welfare to them, and cutting their own platinum health care plan and going on Medicare like the rest of us SERFS... then they are not offering ‘fixes’ just platitudes, and more taxes and more debt.

Abslutely correct Gail

And I will add stopping welfare to able bodied young men (yes, 10's of thousands on SSI I'm sure) and to unmarried women just because they have a kid or too. Let their families take care of them like in the past.

Gut the EPA on the fed level, let the states deal with stuff like that. It's not Constitutional to have a fed org.

Or a fed dept of education, back to the states.

Gut the fed dept of transportation--have them only deal with interstate things, the rest back to the state.

Stop the fed tax on gasoline, let the states keep the tax money collected so they can use it to work on their roads. The dept of trans (fed) just trickles down some of the money, most of it is to run the bloated beaurocracy.

LOL, I could go on and on.

NO DEBT CEILING RAISE, deal with the money you have.

When one of us serfs' credit goes bad, we CANNOT borrow more money !

Oh, Really?

Reid is in the Senate?

Gee thanks..../sarc

If you can’t see the difference between the 2 plans, YOU own the problem!
There is only so much that is possible with only control of the House.
Boehner can’t outlaw the Democrats and fire Obama either.

yeah all you have to do is claim you are a chronic depressive or a druggie and you get on SS disability, when all they need is some drying out and a job with continual weekly drug testing. Depressed go talk to your personal minister.

Syncro I may only have a HS education, but I’ve been on FR to long not to have gotten a great education in politics. And we all who refuse to look below the surface and I mean RUSH, Hannity, BECK are being played for FOOLS. Them especially as they know bonehead’s plan is as bogus as dingy’s and 0’s and as phony as a $3 bill.

I see what goes on in my community, fraud, waste, graft, theft by gov’t employees who take multiple vacations yearly on our dime and call it ‘fact finding’....what facts are you finding in Aruba that has to deal with judicial and Memphis? Sure nothing to do with the Holloway case.

The commodities hand out to frail seniors, not fakers, has tripled in 2 years. They get maybe $10-30 in food stamps, if they get that, depends on what they own. And a few tins a month of fruit and more powered milk, rice or dry beans, peanut butter or cheese, like they did in the 60’s when my dad was off work with ruptured cervical disc from a work fall.

Yet the illegals get a full month of food stamps for all family members, not just the anchor baby. + welfare, and TennCare...our Romneycare. They have nearly broken our states health care system, with the fraud, waste and abuse and over loading the system, where US Citizens in true medical need can’t receive the assistance they temporarily need.

We had a guy in our Sunday School class on the heart transplant list for several years, could not work, the church helped him out where it could. Took 3 tries to get disability through. After he got his transplant and was stable he went back to work and dropped the disability.

When one of us Serfs credit goes bad, they get no additional credit. It was one thing I was taught early to guard my credit rating by paying my bills on time, even when we had little to pay the hospital or doc, they got monthly payments until the bill was paid.

Oh, if you are a single working man with a kid making just about $8 bucks a hr, the gov’t won’t do diddly for you if you hit a rough spot. But they will females.

If you want ‘equal rights’, expect equal treatment.
