That’s all we need. Individual troops starting an international incident.

I don’t see that happening although insurgents in both Iraq and Afghanistan have tried to create them. Insurgents tend to carry off weapons after a firefight. Our troops have been accused of murdering innocent civilians because no weapons were found with the dead. For over 40 years our Rules of Engagement have moved more towards protecting the enemy and away from protecting our troops.

Really isn't a surprise as we expect the DEMS to vote against our Military. However, many DEMS did vote YES on the amendment. Any Democrat or Republican member of Congress who voted NO needs to held accountable!

My thoughts in listing those who voted NO and provide phone numbers was in hopes that folks would call and ask why they voted NO and why the Military Rules of Engagement were such that an amendment allowing our troops the right to defend themselves was necessary!

Yes, we do need both attended to. We know our economy is certainly in danger with ANY major attack. There are many conserns I have, but National Security issues are top on my list.

The Wisconsis list of House members voting against our Military was really surprising to me. Looks like some Republican members followed others. Only 17 Republicans voted NO nation wide, with most from Wisconsin!

I wasn’t familiar with this amendment until you posted it—thanks.

My immediate thought, however, is that though this should of course be the norm, it really ought to be enforced through the military itself, rather than by the force of law. I can imagine certain highly sensitive operations where special ops forces, for example, must put themselves at risk in a fashion that this law might override.

Good intentions, but like most common sense put into law, it’s that 3% that over-legislating really mucks up.

Puzzling to me is how an amendment passed in May can generate any level of attention months later when our National Security is being shown to be directly undermined by political operatives in the highest levels of government.

We won’t be able to afford an effective national security if our economy is wrecked. Case in point: The Soviet Union.

And we won’t have to will to fight on either front if present trends continue. We’ve been under persistent psychological attack from the Marxists and socialists. And the attack is working.

The biggest National issue, and yes it definitely involves politics, is that this country has in large become so hedonistic. In government they try to cast God out of it as though He could be which is utterly impossible. They pass immoral laws concerning the slaughter of millions of innocent babies. They try to legitimize homosexuality. They try to bring people into bondage by promising falsely benefits and perks that are designed only to keep them on “the plantation”. The government is full of bureaucrats that keep voting for those who will keep them in their unnecessary jobs that are loaded with benefits on the backs of others. Kick backs of every kind and most likely embezzlement is ramped and the rule rather than the exception. The list goes on and on and on.

Whether people want to admit it or not the major issue in this country politically and in every other way is that people need to come back to The LORD in mass and there is absolutely nothing else that will possibly cure us of our growing amount of problems and catastrophes. As always the answer is Jesus Christ and He alone. He alone brings us into the family of God and starts to deal with individuals on an itimate and personal level to purge them of their sins.

Good points. It is the present Rules of Engagement that need to be looked into and questions asked of the Dept.Of Defense as to why an amendment like this was considered necessary.

My understand is that when Congressman John Mica visited Afghanistan his discussions with the troops brought him to sponsor this amendment.

I agree.

The reason for my posting information about Congressman Mica's amendment was to perhaps bring attention to the fact that our Military Rules of Engagement need to be changed to help our troops (not hinder) in their war against terrorists.
