But that actually is not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about something that started to become apparent to me during the debt negotiations. It's something I've never seen in national politics.
It is that nobody loves Obama. This is amazing because every president has people who love him, who feel deep personal affection or connection, who have a stubborn, even beautiful refusal to let what they know are just criticisms affect their feelings of regard. At the height of Bill Clinton's troubles there were always people who'd say, "Look, I love the guy." They'd often be smilinga wry smile, a shrugging smile. Nobody smiles when they talk about Mr. Obama. There were people who loved George W. Bush when he was at his most unpopular, and they meant it and would say it. But people aren't that way about Mr. Obama. He has supporters and bundlers and contributors, he has voters, he may win. But his support is grim support. And surely this has implications.

What fun would that be?
Actually I click on on all of the Peggy Noonan and George Will threads just to see how the Freepers are reacting to these turncoat bozos. My view: Most Freepers have figured these guys out and pretty much discount anything they write. It's not universal but it's a pretty good majority.
“it is much safer to be feared than loved because ...love is preserved by the link of obligation which, owing to the baseness of men, is broken at every opportunity for their advantage; but fear preserves you by a dread of punishment which never fails.”
Niccolò Machiavelli (The Prince)
But, I think old Peg is a good windsock in this instance. As one of the biggest Obama fawners, she is now calling him a “loser”. That alone gives this piece credibility. Notice, she is not whispering this to a friend. She has put it in print.
Accurate and concise. You get two bonus points:)

Thank you! :)
That’s a factor for folks for sure. But IIRC, he got that in Vietnam, for which I have the most respect for.
OTOH, backing Obama in 2008? If he wasn’t a WIA vet, I’d say he belongs in a toilet.

The only accomplishment of the Cash for Clunkers program was to get 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.
And drugs.
I agree, chick. People who I know who loooooved Hussein are oh so quiet now. I do know one or two who got brave after Hussein’s continuation of Bush’s policies led to the death of Osama.
I really enjoy reading Peggy. It's a somewhat perverse joy like putting a penny in a glass of Coke, eating a Milk-Bone or a spoonful of Tide.
I believe this is a correct analysis of the way those who support Obama think. This makes the entire situation VERY dangerous.
You put plenty of love on him, Peggy.
She can test her thesis by standing between Obama and Chris Matthews.
Peggy loved Obama up until a couple of weeks ago.
**** the Boehner bill on the debt ceiling because it goes in the right directions, contains spending cuts but not taxes, and is viable. ****
That is simply, factually wrong. There are no spending cuts. Period.
I don’t know who Noonan talks with, but she’s wrong about this, as usual. My liberal facebook friends are still gushing about him and “heart”-ing him all over the place.
We need to get it through our heads: liberals will never change or see reason. They don’t want to and they fight reality. We have got to take control and crush them without their approval, understanding, or help.
Rise up, America. Wise up, America.
What? Peggy had nothing snide to say about Sarah Palin?
“Yeah, but Hussein IS a socialist.”
and an alien!
Are they really your friends?
I stopped reading her in 2008 after she soaked herself with excitement and slid off her lounge chair. Despite cleaning herself, she’s irrelevant.
Re #53:
I don’t at all disagree with you. What frustrates me is that Noonan was so easily charmed and duped in the 2008 cycle yet refuses to even acknowledge that she was an “Obama fawner”. If she’d show a little shame or even chagrin I might be more forgiving. I will always be grateful to her for writing some of Ronald Reagan’s greatest speeches but since 2008 Peggy Noonan has been dead to me.
Do they let Elitist Snots in Wrigley?
Ms. Noonan has been a middle-aged Obama groupie and indefatigable re-worder and interpreter of Mister Obama's actual meanings and intentions since 07, and there's no calling any of this back.
She concludes her typically schizophrenic (covering her criticisms with compliments) piece by writing...
He is not a devil, an alien, a socialist. He is a loser. And this is America, where nobody loves a loser.
Ms. Noonan surely knows she's wrong about the "socialist" statement; however she has so much emotional capital invested in the man that she provides a counterexample for an article about how little emotional attachment people have w Obama.
.
There's some 50th b'day nonsense on FB that I chose to visit . . . like playing with a loose tooth. About 10 'friends' faces popped up as 'liking' it. They were the same insufferable d'bags from '08 that made visits to FB unbearable.
More unfortunate? He'll have EVEN MORE if the tea party blows it for the GOP this weekend.
The only thing I’d disagree with is to point out that she is well past middle age.
“he has failed to organize it to their satisfaction”
The key. When you’re dreaming of your Federal Government giving you alot of free stuff, what happens when the dream’s deferred?
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

Exactly, Peggy. And he told everyone that in 2005 when he said, and I quote, "The kind of education I received makes you confident in your ability to understand problemsnot necessarily to have good answers but at least understand the nature of the questions."
Barack Obama doesn't have the ability to provide solutions. He has only the ability to analyze the problem and complain about the solutions that others provide.

Hey Peggy,
Barry is doing exactly what he planned to do to this
country. Many of us sounded the alarm when we first saw him
and read about his qualifications. We are not surprised at
all.
Too bad you got fooled.
P.S. There’s no Santa Clause either. Deal.
Peggy Windsock. I like it.
At that time, you were probably so buzzed with booze and 'bama that you didn't notice that there were no long-term friends of Obama, no girlfriends, nobody who could even remember him from Columbia. We out in Flyover noticed and knew. No proud professors. No affectionate neighbors. His only friend, Jarrett, seems to function as a kind of nanny.
Nothing but an endless line of grifters who held the next door open for The Guy With So Many Teeth.
Posting this to you will serve to remind me that I, once again, read a Peggy Noonan article, but, it was worth it to post this: You write well. Keep it up.

Some good lines in her article. Still, hard to take her seriously when, during Obama’a campaign, she experienced the female equivalent to Matthews’ “tingle up his leg”.
Now this? What... did she go on the wagon or something?
I had one of those “grim” Obama supporter incidents again yesterday. Obama’s name came up and the lib said, “who else would you want to be President” (as if PeeWee Herman couldn’t do a better job, lol.) Since the person was cranky and on the verge of rage, I let the matter drop.
