Billboard warns hot dogs are as risky as cigarettes; Meat industry disagrees
Washington Post ^ | July 28, 2011 | Sarah Anne Hughes

Firing up the barbecue can be as dangerous as lighting a cigarette, according to a new billboard which reads, “Warning: Hot dogs can wreck your health.”

This statement, along with a photograph of hot dogs in a cigarette pack, currently stands near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where 1.1 million of the meat products were served last year. It was created by the Cancer Project of the group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a nonprofit that encourages, among other things, an “all plant diet” to prevent and treat disease.

How many people eat two or more packages of hot dogs a day? Not many I suspect.

And, I suspect, they’re tough to light.

Why don’t these a-holes go and form their own country, away from us sinners who like our burgers, dogs, brats, cigars, cigarettes, beer, etc?

“A non-profit that encourages an all plant diet”.

Uh... that isn’t like being a vegetarian right? Once again, the anti-meat crowd strikes. Today it is hot dogs, tomorrow will be bacon... until the only thing you eat is green beans and squash. (not that green beans and squash aren’t good... they just go better with some meat IMHO)

Less than 5% of the members of this group are physicians. It is PETA under another name:

Maybe if you dry hotdogs out in the sun for a week, then smoke 25 of them each day.

Otherwise, not so much.

I won’t feed them to my family. One of the reason we don’t do outside the home childcare is because of the daycare “food” menus. But hey, to each his own. As a conservative I believe I have the right to feed my kids how I want to, and everyone else has the right to do the same.

Hot dogs CAN kill! Look at Michael Jackson! He got ahold of a 10 year old weiner and he’s dead now!

nitrates in hot dogs and other “cured” meats aren’t good for you.
It isn’t any of the gov’ts biz. Either ban nitrates or they should shut up.

The dangers of both are overstated. I’m sick of everyone thinking they have to control everything. I like my hotdogs and I’m going to lunch and I think I’ll order a hot dog just to irritate these do gooders.

A billboard put up by someone with an agenda.

Think that would be popular?
