NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The defense attorney for a Somali man accused of being a pirate negotiator says he was unlawfully interrogated aboard a government airplane after requesting a lawyer.

Mohammad Saaili Shibin is charged with piracy, kidnapping and weapons charges for his role in the February hijacking of a yacht off the coast of Africa that left all four Americans onboard dead.

He was lucky he wasn’t arrested by Patrick Henry!

“Those who declare war against the human race may be struck out of existence as soon as they are apprehended. He was not executed according to those beautiful legal ceremonies which are pointed out by the laws in criminal cases. The enormity of his crimes did not entitle him to it. I am truly a friend to legal forms and methods; but, sir, the occasion warranted the measure.
A pirate, an outlaw, or a common enemy to all mankind, may be put to death at any time. It is justified by the laws of nature and nations. “

This is such a farce. Gilbert & Sullivan could never have imagined such a thing.

These clowns with their pathetic dirty little skiffs and their rustbucket “mother ships” are terrorizing the entire Indian Ocean and because we’re all wringing our hands over “International Law” they are barely being inconvenienced.

This little problem could be resolved in about 72 hours if we took the gloves off.

I’m just wondering how much worse it has to get before some nation, maybe Russia or China, decides to get serious.

Pirate: I demand a lawyer!

Govt. Official: Sorry, we’re at 30,000 feet and there are no lawyers on this plane.

Pirate: I demand a lawyer!

Govt. Official [Opening side hatch of airplane]: I TOLD you there are no lawyers on this plane, but since you insist [shoves pirate out side hatch] maybe you’ll be able to find one on the ground...

The poor baby.

Since when do pirates not in the United States have US constitutional rights?

But I guess that's what happens when you define acts of piracy on the high seas to be “criminal” acts. The founders knew the difference. I don't recall Lieutenant Stephen Decatur and Presley O’Bannon reading anyone their rights on the Shores of Tripoli.

The ONLY “constitutional right” a pirate should have is a timely, painless and merciful DEATH. Works every time...appears to cut way down of repetition of the original crime.

The US has been fighting pirates since about 1776. I would think their approach is wrong.

Get that guy back on the plane, and hovering over the Atlantic at 40,000 ft., open the door and shove.

I'd just settle for the first one... timely.

Repatriate the Pirate and his attorney, drop them off in the Indian Ocean about 50 miles off shore and tell them them to swim west...

Lol, I’m so sure this illiterate Somalian pirate requested a lawyer when he was being held at gunpoint on a military plane. Guess he learned that from Miami Vice reruns, eh?

This shows the folly of treating foreign Islamic terrorists and pirates like shoplifters and car thieves. This SOB should have been packed off to Guantanamo and left to rot there.

The pirate, lawyer or both?
Second question, aren’t most lawyers, pirates, by definition/defecation?
