Congress takes up Amazon sales tax issue

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) introduces legislation that would require online retailers such as Amazon to collect sales taxes. Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) plans a similar measure in the House.

If it happens...should be a flat percent no matter what State is involved.

If they pass this it will become what they have in most of Europe - V.A.T. Value Added Tax - and will be IN ADDITION to any State tax.

No freakin' way!

And then there's this from Article 1,:

Section 8. The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

When nearly half do not pay a tax on income, it (income tax) hardly qualifies as "uniform". The social and political ramifications we see today are a direct result of this failure to apply it as intended.(since 'income' can be difficult to quantify and may vary from one analysis to another, it is probably unconstitutional on these grounds alone)
