Deal Reached: Progressive Hostage Metaphors Hardest Hit
http://www.verumserum.com ^ | July 30 2011 | john

Posted on 07/30/2011 9:31:20 PM PDT by Para-Ord.45

ABC has word that the deal is still tentative, but here is the outline:

Debt ceiling increase of up to $2.8 trillion Spending cuts of roughly $1 trillion Instead of Harry Reid’s bogus war savings, a commission will be appointed to recommend cuts totaling $1.8 trillion, thereby equaling the amount of the debt ceiling increase. That’s certainly an improvement over the Reid plan if the other cuts actually happen. I have my doubts whether the Democrats will follow through or simply use what they’ve already agreed to to demagogue the issue some more.

So the bottom line is that both sides avoided their non-negotiables. No tax increases which the House GOP refused to consider and the debt limit is raised enough to take this off the table next year, which the President demanded. Our credit rating will still get downgraded somewhat but the chance of default, which was never much of a chance, goes to zero.

The real downside is that the pressure is now off the President for the rest of his term and we didn’t make any real progress in addressing entitlements. None. We’re still living in the left’s Michael Moore fantasy world where trillions in unfunded liabilities aren’t really a problem. Maybe it really is going to take a major downgrade for these people to catch a clue.

I realize some people on the right are going to be angry that we didn’t get more, specifically on entitlements. Frankly, I’m angry about it too, but I don’t see how it was ever realistic to expect we could do better than this with control of 1/2 of one branch of government. Blaming Boehner for being unable to overcome the Senate and the President (and the media) accomplishes nothing.

Let me be blunt. None of the people complaining could have done better. They may want to pretend they could, but they’re dreaming. It’s sort of like the folks who sit in armchairs watching the Super Bowl and suggest they could have beat the Steeler’s defensive line if they’d been put in as QB on 4th down. Yeah, sure you could, tubby. Now pass the chips.

Boehner just allowed a debt ceiling past Jan. 2013 to save Obama`s ass ?

9% unemployment and a double-dip recession are going to have a lot more to do with barry's chances than any help he gets from a debt ceiling increase.

If our rating is downgraded the numbers won’t work. In other words, as soon as it’s downgraded our debt increases. I wonder what they would do if Moody’s downgraded us on Monday? It would sure screw them up.

two things:

1- ABC is also reporting there will be a vote on a BBA...

2- if they did split the debt ceiling into two parts rather than bundling it in one whose at greater PR risk in a general election year?? ayatollah obama who’ll have the criminal liberal media going full bore for him??? or the GOP candidate??? on paper a two part debt ceiling raise look good but there’s two much downside risk for the GOP from a PR POV....

whether its one debt ceiling raise of two, as long as gas is $4/gallon and unemployment is 9%, obama is effed....

The real downside is this was never about stopping the spending. Obama got his money....and that’s what this is about...thus he’ll use it for gaining support for his election.

This wasn’t about a debt ceiling...nor spending cuts...this was and remains all about Obamas re-election.

ABC, the Albatross Broadcasting Company. I am still not convinced this is a true deal. Something tells me this was leaked by the WH to get the reaction of the "Tea Party Saints" and the "Venomous Lefty Devils." The WH is much to reliant on polls to announce a late night deal without some type of feedback.

The election is mostly going to be about the economy. If it is getting better and generating jobs, Hussein could be re-elected. If it is as crappy as it is now and we are going sideways or in the wrong direction on jobs, he will likely lose.

We don't need the debt ceiling to force a debate on the issue. This plan allows us another debate on the issue in a few months, but even if it didn't we're about to get into the budget wars anyway.

There will be no serious budget cuts until Hussein is gone anyway. None. The only real cuts in any agreement will be the ones for next year - and that's only going to be a few billion no matter what the total number of 10 years is.

This as all horse hockey. NO DEAL!! Don't increase the debt ceiling! The congress should force actual spending CUTS!!

Keep the pressure on! We don't need Obama and the congress mucking up anything else! Keep them busy on this one item for the next 16 months or so right up to election day. There is nothing more important for the congress to consider than warding off national failure and bankruptcy!! Let Obama go golfing. He's much less of a danger to the Republic when he's on the course! Stay (on) the course, Bambi!

Not true.

According to the report, Obama & the Dems will still have to debate cuts until November, the deadline for the 2nd half of the plan.

Also, don't forget that the Ryan plan is waiting in the wings. That definitely addresses entitlements so Obama is far from off the hook.

As with the apparent take-out of Bin Laden, Obama will only benefit from this if the economy improves. But nothing in this deal, if true, makes me think that the situation is going to change much in the next year. Obama will still be an a-hole and will be viewed as such by a majority of the American people. And the GOP SHOULD be able to make a case for at least taking back the Senate next year, and hopefully the presidency, as well. I'm sure this commission will be a farce, as all of these commissions end up being - the Democrats will make sure of that.

The reality is that, regardless of the level of the debt ceiling, the spending should be going in the opposite direction for years to come. The GOP needs to keep harping on this (and making progress on it) so that the debt ceiling level becomes irrelevant. Is the GOP up to the task? I doubt it, so it may be up to a new party to do what has to be done.

This guarantees Nobamas reelection. He will use the money in states where he can get 270 Electoral votes. The Repubs only controlled one house but it was the PURSE STRINGS! That scared the pi$$ out of the Dems. They have used every trick in their book to get the debt increase.

The only way to stop the spread of socialism is to stop borrowing and live off income. It would have been easier with only $14.7 trillion in the hole. Now we have to do it when we are least $ 18 T in the red.

“Why do I have this sinking feeling that we are gonna get screwed again?”

***

Maybe because we are.

Whatever deal is reached, there will most likely be a rise in the debt ceiling, new or increased taxes and only a few token spending cuts. None of the plans I’ve seen as of today go far enough to really relieve or end the crisis. At best, some of these items will be a temporary patch — won’t address the real problems long term.

Boehner did not allow anything. Harry Reid would NOT allow a vote on the House bill in the Senate and the Democrats all voted no in the House. Obama said he would veto it. Boehner and House Republicans tried. Nothing will get done unless the Republicans take control of the Senate and President. Keep that in mind.

Please go read the ABC article. Excerpt:
Democratic and Republican Congressional sources involved in the negotiations tell ABC News that a tentative agreement has been reached on the framework of a deal that would give the President a debt ceiling increase of up to $2.4 trillion and guarantee an equal amount of deficit reduction over the next 10 years.

The details are still being worked out, and a senior White House aide tells ABC News, "talks continue but there is no deal to report."

Congressional leaders plan to brief their members on the framework tomorrow. The reaction from both parties' rank-and-file will determine whether this tentative deal becomes a final deal.

There is NO DEAL. At least not yet. Nobody has voted on this.

Obama said he would veto it.

I don't get that argument. So what if he says he'll veto it. Let him right? That veto would cost him dearly and I doubt he has the guts. At the very least, the House should have just sat back UNTIL CCB was voted on in the Senate.

IMHO, Boehner caved when he held all the cards. These guys acted inept. But since they are not, it follows that it was pure sham for public consumption. The only reason we got to see Act IV was because of the Tea Party.

the POS in the WH has a lot more to worry about than what has been 24/7 for the past weeks - to push the real issues off the front pages - unemployment and “Fast and Furious”

In a couple weeks, this bill and the ratings, etc will be forgotten by most - but the NO JOBS won't and hopefully people and the media can start paying attention to the real scandal - gun running by the administration to Mexico, Honduras, etc - resulting in deaths on both sides of the border...

Also off the radar has been the disaster in Libya -

The WH & his media have used the debt crisis perfectly to redirect attention - everyone swallowed it - They've even got y'all all wee-weeed up over our Boehner instead of Holder and O'Bumbles and the very real crimes involved in the gun running across borders.

Cloward and Piven ride again..

Issa's hearings and investigation should at least have had 'equal billing' - but it's been shoved off on the back burner - he had some powerful testimony this week, for example, from our agents who were stationed in Mexico - They got lost in the news and if 1 out of 1,000 people heard it - I'd be surprised. Those testimonies are now past history - will the whole thing get buried because the Sheeple put 100% attention to where the media and the libs point?

WAKE UP AND WATCH THE OTHER HAND

I'm starting to think that this same Kabuki dance won't be done the same way if this deal being reported is the ral one because it looks like Hussein is deserting his left-wing base (except for demogoguing the gay issue which he will continue to do).

I'm starting to think he's going to go for the middle more now (the Triangulation MO a la Clinton) because he knows he can't get tax hikes, wildly increased spending, etc. any more. His only hope is to veer toward the center...completely contrary to his ideology but his only hope for re-election.

I don't see it. As early as this week, Obummer blew up the Boner compromise by throwing in massive tax increases. He can't help himself and effectively moved to the left of Harry Reid. Either the Regime knows they are cooked in the reelection or they are incompetent. Both are fair assumptions.

NO tax increases IS NOT A WIN.

The Democrats had total control of government for 2 years and for 10 of those months filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

THEY NEVER RAISED TAXES.

They didn’t want to. It loses votes. That’s why they gave it away before negotiations really started.

THEY DON’T WANT TO RAISE THEM IF THEY HAVE TO DO IT STANDALONE.

So having no tax increase is not a win.

and because the GOP used Obama’s baseline, instead of say 2006, they have agreed to increase the National Debt by 9 TRILLION more, in the next 10 years,

that is EXACTLY correct.

and is why we should NOT have increased the debt ceiling.
so that Obama would have been forced to cut back his massive spending increase, and try to placate his OWN competing interest groups.

now, with a 2.8 trillion increase, he can keep spending, and keep HIS base united going into 2012.

not increasing the debt ceiling now, was our ONLY chance to get big spending cuts now (to avoid AAA downgrade).
OR, to put the blame totally on Obama, for 2012.

IF they raise the debt ceiling 2.8T, they need to find 2.8T in savings PLUS the interest expense of the new 2.8T in Treasury and Agency interest payments, just for taxpayers to break even.

So the entire exercise is bogus from the start.

Obama was spending beyond the government’s means before this impasse and he’ll spend beyond the government’s means after the impasse. The August 3rd deadline is nothing but a footnote to this guy.

We were screwed the day this guy was elected. Some people just haven’t realized it yet.

people don’t understand. they think Obama is incompetent. but he’s doing EXACTLY what he intends.

Exactly.

And his sting-puller, Soros, who has been plotting tirelessly for 30+ years to bankrupt America -

"...Obama at a fundraiser at the New York residence of Steven and Judy Gluckstern in April 2007—and sitting next to him, in the blue shirt, is none other than George Soros..." (from Little Green Footballs)

This photo, in 2007, should have told everyone everything they needed to know about the candidate.

They should rename this Bill “The DC Hacks Protection Act”
That’s about all it does. Phantom cuts, huge debt increase.
That should be a real crowd pleaser for the Inside The Beltway Hacks.
I bet they are ALL about to break out the Campaign Bottles.

Yhea....these (Washington D.C. Establishment) LIFERS....
They (all) really ought to be retired @ the next election.
along w/ all the Marxists and the Quisling Press.
