(The same three who proposed tax hikes the last time around, btw).

Really? They proposed no tax cuts?

“Oh, but your predictions are to be taken as gospel, right?”

Well, bookmark this thread, and check back in Nov-Dec. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong... but I highly doubt I will be.

I gave up all hope that the PUBs would stand tall when I first heard the word “comprehensive” in a sentence.

That’s Versailles-speak for BOHICA.

Of course Durbin will have to vote yes. He’s part of the leadership team. Schumer has to vote yes, as well.

Reid and Pelosi have to round up every D vote in both chambers b4 McConnell and Boehner lift a finger. Dems own the government, and their president has signed off.

What are you so upset about? The GOP completely outfoxed both the RATS and the MSM, and avoided any ownership of a crumbling economy.

2012 is what matters, not this skirmish.

So we will get the added benefit of watching Durbin try to defend his vote in Chicago. Fun.

"The GOP completely outfoxed both the RATS and the MSM"

Just for you I've got a special deal on the Brooklyn Bridge. I know it's been "sold" many times before but this time it's for real. I think you might just be the lucky one to get title to it. Contact me we'll talk about a price.

>> The deal would include an automatic trigger to make the supposed cuts if Congress rejects the tax hikes <<

Won’t necessarily happen, because this Congress cannot bind a future Congress in that way.

I'm struggling with the same thing. Do we choose between bad or worse, like we always or vote our principles?

The GOP would not have us vote our principles in the name of unity. Maybe my principles probably aren't worth a stack of buttons to the party as a whole, but they mean a lot to myself and my family.

-- I think ALL SPENDING COMES FROM THE HOUSE,and that includes cutting previously authorized spending. --

The constitution prescribes that all bills for raising revenue (all tax bills) are to originate in the House. The Supreme Court construes "bill for raising revenue" very narrowly.

The only thing Obama is getting that he wanted was a debt increase thru the election, which in my opionion, is really better for the Republicans. I see nothing happening in the next 18 months that is going to turn the economy around enough to re-elect Obama, IF conservatives get out and vote and don’t pout and sulk and stay home in 2012.

Yep, we have to WORK for the change we want, not just scream about RINOS. Sure some of the new Tea Party congress folks might have gone along with this, but likely because they were looking to get the debt ceiling issue resolved for now. With that off the table, they can start pushing for more and more cuts in spending, and that message WILL resonate in the coming year, leading up to the 2012 elections. Instead of dumping those new congresspeople, we need to support them and look for even MORE like them. If we get angry and dump all of them, what will we have? We'll have even MORE Democrats in Congress and ANY progress we'll have made to lower spending will be gone.

Conservatives have to start thinking strategically. We are in this mess because of incremental changes put in place by the Democrats over the last 40 years. And we need to take a page from their playbook. When things didn't go the Democrats way, their supporters didn't throw them out; they knew that if they stayed, they'd eventually get what they wanted, and they did.

Government overspending will NOT change overnight, and most voters won't put up with what they perceive as draconian cuts. They WILL, however, I believe, go along with small but REAL cuts, and those could be begun, and built on, every year. If Tea Partiers will get behind, and STAY behind those who have that mindset, we can, in the future, make this a government that will live within its means. It will NOT happen overnight, or even within the span of one Republican president's term, and it certainly won't happen if we get our knickers in a twist over every little thing with which we don't agree.

I know Brother. It is hard, hard, hard. If we walk away from the Republicans then the Dems will certainly win the Presidency again in 12. Four more years of Obama makes me sick to contemplate. That being said I really am starting to hate MYSELF for compromising my principles. I simply can’t believe in the name of unity I voted for McCain. I like everyone else keep trying to ease my conscious by trying to convince myself I really voted for Sarah but that just isn’t working anymore.

Until the Republican leadership gets the message that we are sick and tired of their ineptness, their outright buffoonery, their lack of will to bring this nation back from the insanity THEY have helped to bring about, I simply can’t support them any longer.

It’s gonna take a whole lot of us to walk away for them to get the message. In the meantime, of course, the Democrats will have a field day. I guess it comes down to dying a death of a thousand cuts (supporting the current Republican regime) or instant death from the Dems. Neither is a pretty prospect.

On the bright side though the Tea Party is a big movement and not likely to go away. If they can’t reform the Republican hierarchy and take control then a break would not be such a bad thing. At least if we had our TP reps in there, they and the Republicans would band together on many issues against the Dems and maybe more than a few dinosaur Repubs would get tossed out. I don’t want to name any Speaker of the house specifically who would fall into that category.

Very well said. People should read your post with an open mind and not just knee jerk throw everybody out that doesn’t agree with them 100% of the time.

Well stated! The question then is: Do we give the GOP one more chance, one more time? I’m starting to feel like a broken record!

Let your conscience be your guide. As for me I have washed my hands of the Republicans and will only support Tea Party, Libertarian, or Constitutional Party candidates. Yes as for now that means if a TP backed candidate is running as a Republican, then the Republicans will receive my vote. If say Romney wins the Republican candidacy I WILL NOT give him my vote. If that means Obama wins, so be it.

I truly would like to see the Tea Party split off and become a separate party. That would surely send the Republican “leaders” (I use that term loosely) a message they would not forget. When I look at at the total lack of real leadership or direction in the Republican Party I simply no longer have a choice on what I must do. For me it is crystal clear; I can no longer support the incompetence and anti Constitutional actions that is now the only thing the Republican Party represents.
