I’m taking bets on Harry winning the Portrait in Courage award.

Where’s DeMint with the filibuster he promised?

Oh...he was only kidding? Never mind, then.

Why don't we just save everyone the time and raise the debt ceiling the amount Obama would spend over 8 full years.

What would that number equal?

$50 trillion?

I don't think a filibuster is going to be necessary. Rand Paul also now says he won't obstruct the ability to have a floor vote.

This tells me that both DeMint and Paul know the bill is dead, and they can save some political capital in the process.

Of course, I could be wrong, but even Dingy Harry is backing away from his own bill.

They didn’t need to filibuster. Reid’s bill was defeated outright.

The state run liberal “media” are still trying to make their boy, Stinky Harry, appear to be relevant. Once this is all said and done, expect Stinky’s toadies in the “media” to trumpet how “lucky” America is that the commie union thugs and freeloading illegal aliens sent Stinky back to the Senate.

They’re not caving, it’s a calculation for 2012.

The GOP essentially capitulated.

The negativity is astounding here. You don’t turn the Titanic on a dime.
No new taxes and a reasonable path to continue the turn is what is needed.

Hopefully no triggers to tempt Democrats to decimate Defense. If that is avoided then this is going to be a major change in the tide.

Some folks don’t seem capable of noticing. With control of only one of three levers, that is an impressive victory for the Republic.

This just gives an excuse to the Dems to cut defense. Republicans have been had, again.

Reid signs off on debt deal as negotiators get close Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/60304.html#ixzz1Tj0YnunU

... the proposal calls for severe across-the-board cuts as the action-forcing device - cuts affecting Democratic domestic priorities, including Medicare, but also about 50 percent would come from defense spending, which is a major priority for many Republicans.

Considering that defense is only 20% of the budget, with 80% being everything else, this means draconian cuts from defense and trivial amounts from everything else.

Reid and Obama are getting everything they want. They are now negotiating between two bills that they wrote, though one of bills has Boehner’s name on it.
