want to be no tea party member will be put on the “commission”?

I hate the commission because it is not elected by the voters. The voters have a commission it is called congress.

That’s not true. If they don’t agree to the comission then there will be across the board cuts, including in medicare and defense.

If the deal is based on a baseline

It's based on what it's in law now. It doesn't mean Hussein will not extend the tax cuts as he was under pressure to do last time.

The reason this misleading angle is being reported is that the WH is stretching the truth to try to arm-twist Dem House members to vote for the bill

They were going to go up, by law, already.

They were not a part of any deal.

We all knew this. You say Boehner knew it?? You’re blaming Boehner for not speaking about it in context of the deal?? We all knew it. Completely separate and apart from the debt ceiling issue.

“The free birth control has nothing whatsoever to do with this bill.”

You will be hard pressed to convince many here that this is true. For a lot of people here anything bad that happens from here to eternity will be because it was hidden deep inside this deal and Republicans were to stupid to spot it.

The only way they are scoring a $2 Trillion decrease in the $8 Trillion increase in spending is by also accepting $3.6 Trillion tax increase by letting the Bush cuts expire.

This is a total catastrophe. More taxes to pay for some of the increase in spending.

Republicans are signing up for higher taxing and spending.

If they vote for this, they are finished as a party.

Give it a rest .. I was looking for any hints, WH
or not, which stated there were ANY tax hikes,
especially since we’re being told repeatedly by
Boehner and Reid there are NONE.

Did you happen to glance at this piece before you
decided to launch on me?

Not Playing the Fool
Posted by Erick Erickson
Monday, August 1st at 4:46AM EDT

There are a lot of Republicans tonight willing to play the fool for the GOP in this debt ceiling plan. They say, for example, that there will be no tax increases from this super committee. Never mind that the Democrats are saying otherwise.

I can prove to you right now that there will be tax increases.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) expects the Bush tax cuts to expire. So all the commission has to do is two things: extend middle class Bush tax cuts and enact a permanent alternative minimum tax (AMT) patch.

Those two together would look like an increase to the deficit in CBO scoring. So then the commission can start out of the gate with the ability to create several trillion dollars in new tax hikes to equal out to the cuts — cuts that will happen even without the commission most likely.

And where will those cuts come from? Those making $250,000.00 or more, of course.

And probably the Gang of 6s ideas to eliminate most deductions to income taxes without revenue neutral rate reductions and the Gang of 6’s pièce de résistance — raising capital gains taxes from 15% to 28%.

Have people not been paying attention? In every single address the President has given on the debt ceiling, he has insisted on new tax revenue. John Boehner even put $800 billion on the table, so it is already there.

Rest:

The option is for the Repubs to set off the international markets by not passing this "blackmail" plan.

The reality is....the Dems went spend crazy with things like GM, Union support etc ...and we're left with the bill..and need that cap to be raised.

There is no budget for 2012

Therefore, there is no realistic baseline. The change will occur within 60 days when the government really runs out of money for real

The House passed a budget. The Senate let it lay. No budget, no money

Give it a rest .. I was looking for any hints, WH or not,

And there's your first mistake.

I've got a clue for you:

The WH will take every opportunity to frame everything in "tax hike" rhetoric to try to win back a base which is furious at their weakness.

Another clue:

ALWAYS ALWAYS believe the opposite of what Plouffe says...yes even when he appears on FOX!

She was guessing. We posted the guess as a fact. Bad Ju Ju.

Yay!

I’ve been hoping against hope that all these deals would fall through; I thought it was cooked today but this sounds good.

All this country needs is to see that if 40% of spending is forcibly cut, the country won’t blow up or similar type silly catastrophe fantasy. THAT is when real economic reform can begin.

The Bush tax cut extension will be fought at a later date so gird your loins for that one.

Obama wanted two things in this deal:

1. To extend the debt limit debate past the 2012 elections. He got that.

2. To get the congress to kill the Bush tax cuts. He didn’t get that.

He’s now faced with the prospect of raising taxes in an election year - by his own pen. That is a big loser for him and I doubt he’ll do it. He didn’t last time, earning him ongoing derision from the left.

Every time he gets on TV now he mentions the “balanced approach” blah, blah, blah, as if he was successful in getting a tax increase into this deal.

He didn’t and his party knows it.

He failed and he knows he’s up a creek.

It doesn’t matter who is on the commission. One liberal member will make a feeble attempt to float a tax increase and it will fail.

Too early to tell what is in it. I never expected to “get” a lot. Just get a bit less spending, even if the cuts are mostly faux cuts, try for no tax hikes and afterwards try to keep the debt/spending issues hot for debate in 2012. I’m afraid, though, that we will find some poison pills somewhere in this thing. And it hasn’t passed, yet.
