want to be no tea party member will be put on the “commission”?
I hate the commission because it is not elected by the voters. The voters have a commission it is called congress.
That’s not true. If they don’t agree to the comission then there will be across the board cuts, including in medicare and defense.
It's based on what it's in law now. It doesn't mean Hussein will not extend the tax cuts as he was under pressure to do last time.
The reason this misleading angle is being reported is that the WH is stretching the truth to try to arm-twist Dem House members to vote for the bill
It looks like Vaseline futures will shoot through the roof ...
Is a satan sandwich like deviled ham? Because I like that.
which INCREASES SPENDING 8% EVERY YEAR by law
They were going to go up, by law, already.
They were not a part of any deal.
We all knew this. You say Boehner knew it?? You’re blaming Boehner for not speaking about it in context of the deal?? We all knew it. Completely separate and apart from the debt ceiling issue.
Deviled ham with Tabasco sauce and onions.
Thanks for the ping!!
The committee is not going to recommend tax cuts. The GOP caved big time.
“The free birth control has nothing whatsoever to do with this bill.”
You will be hard pressed to convince many here that this is true. For a lot of people here anything bad that happens from here to eternity will be because it was hidden deep inside this deal and Republicans were to stupid to spot it.
The only way they are scoring a $2 Trillion decrease in the $8 Trillion increase in spending is by also accepting $3.6 Trillion tax increase by letting the Bush cuts expire.
This is a total catastrophe. More taxes to pay for some of the increase in spending.
Republicans are signing up for higher taxing and spending.
If they vote for this, they are finished as a party.
I wonder how you became so convinced you were an oracle of the future.
Give it a rest .. I was looking for any hints, WH
or not, which stated there were ANY tax hikes,
especially since we’re being told repeatedly by
Boehner and Reid there are NONE.
Did you happen to glance at this piece before you
decided to launch on me?
Not Playing the Fool

There are a lot of Republicans tonight willing to play the fool for the GOP in this debt ceiling plan. They say, for example, that there will be no tax increases from this super committee. Never mind that the Democrats are saying otherwise.
I can prove to you right now that there will be tax increases.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) expects the Bush tax cuts to expire. So all the commission has to do is two things: extend middle class Bush tax cuts and enact a permanent alternative minimum tax (AMT) patch.
Those two together would look like an increase to the deficit in CBO scoring. So then the commission can start out of the gate with the ability to create several trillion dollars in new tax hikes to equal out to the cuts cuts that will happen even without the commission most likely.
And where will those cuts come from? Those making $250,000.00 or more, of course.
And probably the Gang of 6s ideas to eliminate most deductions to income taxes without revenue neutral rate reductions and the Gang of 6’s pièce de résistance raising capital gains taxes from 15% to 28%.
Have people not been paying attention? In every single address the President has given on the debt ceiling, he has insisted on new tax revenue. John Boehner even put $800 billion on the table, so it is already there.
Please be sure to omit me next time the foul mood overcomes.
I emailed Speaker Beohner this morning and asked him how he thought he would feel, knowing he was the Speaker who killed the Republican party?....
We're moving from "Bush's fault!" to "Debt-bill's fault!"
LOL!! Dittos. I saw this reported as well, but this thread had me convinced I was hallucinating! Glad someone confirmed I hadn’t lost my marbles.
The reality is....the Dems went spend crazy with things like GM, Union support etc ...and we're left with the bill..and need that cap to be raised.
Rush just said “The Hill’s” whip count has the vote currently FAILING 212 to 219.
By way of explanation.....Star wasn't giving an opinion on the posted. Star was just posting to give others info on what's being said out there. Sheesh!
Nate Silver: 87 GOP against. 112 Dems Against. They are short right now.
You aren’t losing your mind layback.
I just posted what I heard and Baeir on FOX reported on it as well.
Doesn’t seem terribly difficult to overcome for Boehner/Pelosi to flip 5 votes
There is no budget for 2012
Therefore, there is no realistic baseline. The change will occur within 60 days when the government really runs out of money for real
The House passed a budget. The Senate let it lay. No budget, no money
And there's your first mistake.
I've got a clue for you:
The WH will take every opportunity to frame everything in "tax hike" rhetoric to try to win back a base which is furious at their weakness.
ALWAYS ALWAYS believe the opposite of what Plouffe says...yes even when he appears on FOX!
Your fox news link is no good.
If there is one thing the dems are really good at it’s getting their people to vote the way they want them to. They will get the votes.
They couldn’t just cut spending without creating a Rube Goldberg machine, like the way they did with Health Care Deform.
Rush reports Boehner is short votes, needs 4-6 more.
Some of those tweets are hilarious:

I’m sure my 2 moderate R’s will cave. TN, Corker is up in ‘12, the old fart Alexander in ‘14 he is 70 at least, past time to retire.
Knock it down, House.
This is Koolaid laced with cyanide.
Absolute suicide for the Republican party.
Allen West is all talk no action. This is Trillions more in debt and Trillions more in taxes. The mask is off him and any other “tea party” types who vote for this catastrophe.
The following is a rundown of The Hills constantly updated whip count.
Boehner and Cantor need to be deposed. They did this abomination of a tax increasing debt increasing gift to Obama, funding Obamacare no less.
an economy stalled on the precipice of depression NEEDS big tax hikes, don’cha know
it’s progressive economics 101 - when the cow stops giving milk you withold food until its milk production increases
besides, europe is almost out of money again, too and they need a big TARP 2.0 from American taxpayers
How could I forgot I was supposed to ask you first about those clue thingees.
Reporter: "I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound like a good thing."
I beg to differ!
Shannon said it MIGHT be. The story as reported here said it WAS. It might have been that. He might have been taking a leak. His wife might have been on the phone. He might have been getting a Monica from Hillary!
She was guessing. We posted the guess as a fact. Bad Ju Ju.
The first and most critical rule in good journalism is to get it exactly RIGHT.
looks like granny better save her last can of dog food ....
If we can’t get the facts right, how can we expect people to trust us. How can we say we are better than the MSM if we don’t get stories EXACTLY right?
I’ve been hoping against hope that all these deals would fall through; I thought it was cooked today but this sounds good.
All this country needs is to see that if 40% of spending is forcibly cut, the country won’t blow up or similar type silly catastrophe fantasy. THAT is when real economic reform can begin.
The Bush tax cut extension will be fought at a later date so gird your loins for that one.
Obama wanted two things in this deal:
1. To extend the debt limit debate past the 2012 elections. He got that.
2. To get the congress to kill the Bush tax cuts. He didn’t get that.
He’s now faced with the prospect of raising taxes in an election year - by his own pen. That is a big loser for him and I doubt he’ll do it. He didn’t last time, earning him ongoing derision from the left.
Every time he gets on TV now he mentions the “balanced approach” blah, blah, blah, as if he was successful in getting a tax increase into this deal.
He didn’t and his party knows it.
He failed and he knows he’s up a creek.
It doesn’t matter who is on the commission. One liberal member will make a feeble attempt to float a tax increase and it will fail.
Don't these people know the truth will leak out now that MSM gatekeepers are wounded...
Same here, I’m hoping the whole thing falls apart.
Too early to tell what is in it. I never expected to “get” a lot. Just get a bit less spending, even if the cuts are mostly faux cuts, try for no tax hikes and afterwards try to keep the debt/spending issues hot for debate in 2012. I’m afraid, though, that we will find some poison pills somewhere in this thing. And it hasn’t passed, yet.
We need links.
Here ya go!...............
Just thought you could use some free advice.
“Obama Takes a Victory Lap”
oh noze, if spending isn’t cut, then the pres has no choice but to let the “Bush Tax Cuts” expire
Lord knows a re-elected obama will make sure that doesn’t happen! sarc
