WASHINGTON (AP) -- Crisis legislation to yank the nation past the threat of a historic financial default sped through the House Monday night, breaking weeks of deadlock. The rare moment of cooperation turned celebratory when Rep. Gabrielle Giffords strode in for the first time since she was shot in the head nearly seven months ago.
The vote was 269-161, a scant day ahead of the deadline for action. But all eyes were on Giffords, who drew thunderous applause as she walked into the House chamber unannounced and cast her vote in favor of the bill.

I agree. They live in their own little world; only it negatively affects us. I am glad to hear she is alright.
She seems like a nice woman. That being said, she suffered a serious brain injury and who knows if she is mentally capable of formulating a decision that affects the entire country. She should have received medical clearance to speak on our behalf.

I know. It certainly brought out my cynical side. I’m thankful she survived but I also think she should give up her seat until she can run again and be effective. I still can’t get over the deaths and injuries to others that day and how they have been all but forgotten. Their lives were and are just as precious. Maybe I’m crazy? I dunno....:(

You’re absolutely right; my understanding is that she is incapacitated, to the point where she is not expected to keep her seat. Emotions aside, this is wierd and probably illegal; would she be allowed to sign a loan agreement in her current mental state (and have it stand up in court)? If she can, then all the power to her; if not, this is outrageous.
I never believe a liberal can be “nice”; they can be polite, diplomatic, whatever, but “nice” or “good” are too strong for people who hold some views.

One thing that I’ll always remember about that was the reaction of Gov. Jesse Ventura; he was a libertarian/lib, but he was furious.
By who’s authority do they judge someone who just suffered a gunshot wound to the head “fit for work serving the people”?
