The former mayor walked out of the prison and got into a waiting SUV early Tuesday. He was given "a small amount of cash from the cashier's office" upon his release, said John Cordell, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections.

And in Detroit, he'd probably have no problem winning again. A little identity politics and sticking it to the man (even thought it is entirely self destructive) goes a long way with black voters.

Fresh out of jail, he will probably head off to one of the many President Obama birthday celebrations.
Not so fast, my friend. I don't know where you live, but the news here has done many street interviews, asking citizens (many blacks included) about the POS former Mayor of D. There are still some supporters, but I've been pleasantly surprised at some of the angered responses from many of the black voters.
Because of Kilpatrick and Monica Conyers, Michigan passed a law that prohibits convicted felons from public office for 20 years.
Kilpatrick’s mayorship was plagued by numerous scandals and rampant accusations of corruption, with the mayor eventually resigning after being charged with ten felony counts, including perjury and obstruction of justice. Kilpatrick was sentenced to four months in jail after pleading guilty to reduced charges, but with good time awarded to county jail inmates in Michigan, he was released on probation after serving 99 days. On May 25, 2010, he was sentenced to 18 months to 5 years in prison for violating his probation.
He will go to trial next September for racketeering along with his dad. He could get 30 years.
Nope! Michigan passed a law and he can’t run for 5 years. He will be in jail long befor that.
The list is pretty impressive. He was ordered to repay the city $1,000,000, then kept lying to the judges about his income, staging petty court delays, purjuring himself, etc. He also committed fraud with respect to a charitable fund under his control, IIRC. There is a HUGE laudry list of other allegations such as accepting bribes for city contracts, misuse of city resources (police on double-time to work his parties at the mansion), and others. Honestly there has been so much shit, I can't keep track of it all.
There are Federal charges pending also, which local "experts" believe will bring a heavier hammer. When he left prison today, Kwame should have said "see ya later" instead of "goodbye".
Heard it all before. You see, I live in the DC suburbs. Once upon a time DC had Mr. Marion "Mayor for Life" Berry. I remember black voters railing about this, that and the other when it came to his corruption, incompetence, etc. So Berry ends up getting caught on tape smoking crack with hookers, and guess what? Yup, the first chance they got black DC residents voted him right back into office.
American blacks vote for Democrats by as strong or stronger majorities (90%+) than they ever have. Hussein got something like 95% of the black vote. The black community is sick in its very soul and there is no evidence, yet at least, that they are getting even the slightest bit wiser.
He got caught.

Well I completely agree that black votes for black almost 100%, but I was surprised at the anger for Kwame, even this morning. For him to be mayor again, he’d have to run against another black candidate, and I’m pretty sure he would lose.
What he got caught for and what he’s actually guilty of are probably a hundred different things.
