Secret Service apprehends White House fence jumper

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A homeless man was in custody Tuesday night after climbing over the White House fence, the Secret Service said.

The man was immediately captured by uniformed Secret Service agents, who guard the complex around the clock, said agency spokesman Ed Donovan. He had a backpack that Donovan said was being examined for possible explosive material.

The suspect, identified as James Dirk Crudup, 41, was being transferred to District of Columbia police for processing. He faces charges of unlawful entry and contempt of court for violating an order to stay away from the White House, Donovan said.

A CNN news crew caught some of the drama on tape as it unfolded. Video showed agents leading the man, as they held his hands behind his back, across the North Lawn on the Pennsylvania Avenue side of the White House, where tourists gather to take photographs.

My goodness, even homeless people hate the dictator-n-chief.

Good to see the Secret Service on the job. An attack on our president is an attack on all of us. We may not like his policies, but until January, 2013, he’s our president.

And then, the last remaining Federal Judge who actually follows U.S. law ruled that the homeless man had more of a right to be there than the current occupant, and awarded him a free stay in the White House until January 2013.

How come the fence jumper did his deed today?
Garner sympathy for barry?

Sorry, but with this gang, anything is suspect and is probably staged.

The homeless man told the police he had heard that obama had a “stash” of money, which was where he was getting all the money to bail out the poor folk. The man said he simply wanted to ask obama if he could have some money from the “secret stash”. /sarc, just in case.

An attack on our president is an attack on all of us.

Maybe it is down under, where things are upside down. So speak for yourself, please.

I didn’t read where he attacked the president - keep it real if you expect credibility.

I think that applies to just about everything since January of '08.

The majority of such cases mean no attack, but the White House security is wise to treat it as an attack until proven otherwise.

James Dirk Crudup.

If nothing else, that’s a great name!

I was going to craft a sarcastic post paralleling this incident with the one leading to the “Beer Summit” in which BHO said he was not informed of the details but the police “behaved stupidly.”

I changed my mind.

I don't want a visit from the Secret Service.

This should disappoint everyone.

My post would have been devilishly witty.

The homeless man now has an air conditioned cot with 3 squares a day. Some hope and change magic from the White House?
