Matt Damon on debt limit: 'I'm so disgusted,' 'it's criminal' wealthy are not paying higher taxes

Academy award-winning actor Matt Damon said he is "so disgusted" with what's happening in Washington over the debt limit, claiming that the Tea Party is "willing to drive it all off a cliff" and adding that it's "criminal" the wealthy are not paying higher taxes.

"I'm so disgusted man. I mean, no, I don't know what you do in the face of that kind of intransigence. You know, so my heart does go out to the President. He is dealing with a lot," Damon said in an exclusive interview at the "Save Our Schools March" in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.

When asked if he agrees with President Obama's call for a "balanced approach" as part of a deal to raise the debt limit, Damon said, "Yes, the wealthy are paying less than they've paid in any time else, certainly in my lifetime."

He continued, "It's criminal that like, you know, so little is asked of people who are getting so much, I mean, I don't mind paying more. I really don't mind paying more taxes. I'd rather pay for taxes than cut like 'Reading is Fundamental' or 'Head Start' or some of these programs that are really helping kids. I mean, why not? This is the greatest country in the world. Is it that much worse if you pay 6 percent more in taxes? Give me a break. You know, look at what you get for it. You get to be American."

Damon did not say the highest percentage he would be willing to pay in taxes but argued for tax reform.

"I mean, why not raise it per million bucks? Right? And then cap it somewhere," he said.

Damon also said those making over $250,000 per year are not job creators.

"Nobody went and started a business with their Bush tax cut. You know, I don't know who would believe something – that just defies common sense so no, that's – no. I was against those tax cuts. I thought they were ridiculous. So little is asked of the upper class anyway, you know. I mean, what percent of them or their kids are fighting in any of these wars?" he said.

Damon also called the Tea Party "completely intransigent" in terms of the debt ceiling debate.

"It's true. They are absolutely willing to drive it all off a cliff. They mean what they say, that's for sure," he said.

He is an idiot and a useful player in their propaganda machine. Higher taxes cannot fix this. Plus it would be like giving an irresponsible teenager more money to spend with No accountability, no budget, no taking the keys away...

Liberals keep saying tax the rich, yet, even if you took 100% of all their money right now it wouldn’t equal $1 trillion, half of just this years debt.

Hollywierd types cannot do basic math.

Maybe Damon could get all his lib friends together to start sending all their money to the government.

Let’s call it the Matt Damon Tax.

Agreed. That way when all actors, directors, and producers are taxed at 98% they can be reminded of who to thank.

Quite clearly, Matt is not tethered by the bonds of reality.

When John Kerry had the choice of paying a higher Tax rate on his MA State Tax Form, he chose the lower rate.

When John Kerry had the choice to pay MA Taxes on his Yacht, he chose not to.

When President Obama and Vice President Biden had the choice of paying additional Federal Income Taxes by taking the Standard Deduction rather than Itemizing, they chose itemizing.

Damon said, "Yes, the wealthy are paying less than they've paid in any time else, certainly in my lifetime."

There's a tax on wealth? Who knew? I know there's a tax on earned income. There's a tax on the creation of wealth. But a wealth tax? Since when? I am sure all his wealthy Hollywood friends will sign on for that.

Exactly. If this faggy moonbat Damon wants the stinkin’ federal government to have MORE of HIS money, why doesn’t he just write them a check? Who’s stopping this girl from writing a check for millions of dollars?

Translation: I would not be saying anything if I had not become a wealthy numb brained actor; but since I am I want you to know because no one else questions it would I pay higher taxes? Actually no, because I am a wealthy numb brained actor who has hidden his money through every conceivable tax haven I can.

Also, because I am a wealthy numb brained actor, rules don’t apply to me.

Another useful idiot. Why doesn’t he just give his money to the government, shut the heck up and quit trying to make the rest of our lives miserable. Bet he has an accountant who hides most of his money from the gubmint.
