Staten Island state Sen. Diane Savino apologizes for 'Mafia' slur directed at Tea Party

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Spurred in part by an Advance editorial that criticized her, state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn) today apologized for referring to Tea Party members as "the new mafia" on her personal Facebook page.

In a posting on her Facebook page, Ms. Savino said, “when you use language that upsets people it muddies your message. So, if the term mafia is offensive to anyone, I offer my apology.”

Ms. Savino said “leaders should be able to admit when they are wrong.”

As part of her mea culpa, Ms. Savino also posted a link to the critical Advance editorial, titled, “No way for a leader to talk.”

Ms. Savino used the word mafia Monday in linking to New York Times editorial critical of how Tea Party lawmakers in Congress acted during the debt-ceiling debate.

“So, if the term mafia is offensive to anyone, I offer my apology.”

That’s no apology. The term is offensive to EVERYbody, including members of the mob. Sheesh.

An apology is unqualified - no ifs, ands or buts.

This is a qualification, not an apology.

Put this State Senator’s comment with that of an “addiction specialist” today on MSNBC who diagnosed Tea Partiers as mentally ill and potentially violent. Liberals are losing control and so they can’t help themselves in showing how much they loathe the Tea Party.

Congrats, Diane. A true role model for the rest of us. Thank God we have such maturity and intelligence in your Party to keep the rest of us commoners in line

Geesh, if I add Chrissie Matthews “baby-kidnapping” to my tagline, I won’t have enough room to add Savino’s “mafioso”.

If I could, it would look like this:

I am not a member of any Tea Party, I am not an activist, I cannot be counted in that percentage of folks who self-identity with the Teas Party movement. But I am seething, will likely become more active, and am sympathetic to the Tea Party. And I suspect there are 10s of millions like me. I don’t think the left and the MSM can even imagine how many.

Ms. Savino's mafia sponsors found out she was calling attention to herself and her other associates ~ THEIR OWN LAW FIRM ~ and you'd best believe there was a meeting to decide on a hit or "let her figure out how to get out of this".

So far she is very lucky.

Checked her out several days back at: http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2757165/posts?page=3

Diane Savino probably knows all about the Mafia. Her current boyfriend, Klein, is a partner in the law firm of Klein, Calderoni & Santucci, LLP.

It can only get worse if we dig deeper.

Klein actually found himself in a lawsuit AGAINST a 9/11 worker one of his partners had as a client ~ he, Klein, wanted a piece of the award!

It can only get worse if we dig deeper.

I couldn't find Diane's relationship to the Republican named Savino who ran against her current boyfriend.

Fur shur, these folks have surnames that departed from Naples but it looks like most of their relatives still back in Italy have phone numbers in Reggio de Calabria ~ the source of most of the Siciliano and Italiano mobsters in America.

A clue ~ for a variety of reasons, virtually ALL of the websites that include all the surnames of this crowd are IN ITALIAN, and not all that good either ~ kind of a regional dialect.

Having grown up next door to someone like this (who sometimes hired Johnny Cash to come with a band and play in his front yard) I really do think people should be careful about getting too close to them ~

They're afraid of the TEA Party.

It should be pretty clear by now that they save their harshest attacks on those they fear most, Palin etc. I notice that Mitt never takes flack because they know he is no threat.

These shyster Democrat party politicians know they are in the TEA Party's and the people's sights.

The Republican Party is also quivering in fear, and they should be. They just can’t do a full frontal assault on their own base, but I bet they would like to.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tired of receiving what she said were “incredibly offensive” pamphlets from opponents of same-sex marriage, state Sen. Diane Savino this week posted a sign outside the door to her Albany office in hopes of keeping the “ugly, hateful rhetoric” at bay.

“Bigots & homophobes, please put your literature here” the sign read above her office mailbox.

Staffers said the literature the senator and her aides had been receiving from foes of marriage equality featured images that were pornographic.

Ms. Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn) is a long-time supporter of same-sex marriage.

“I don’t know why they kept giving it to her because it’s not like she is going to change her mind,” said one Savino staffer who asked not to be identified.

In an e-mail to the Advance, Ms. Savino said the sign was removed today because “the visitors have stopped.”

“Some of the people who were from the Albany area — no NYC or constituents — were incredibly offensive,” said Ms. Savino. “I am not going to tolerate people coming into my office, threatening my staff or me. Ugly, hateful rhetoric is not allowed.”

Gene Cosgriff, of the Staten Island Right to Life Committee, e-mailed a photo of the sign to the Advance with the comment: “Ms. Savino seems to have forgotten that as a representative of all of her constituents, she is supposed to respect diverse opinions, even those with which she doesn’t agree. Besmirching the names of those who support the time immemorial belief that marriage is the union of a man with a woman is not only poor judgment and tasteless, it is an outrageous insult.”

"Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn) today apologized for referring to Tea Party members as "the new mafia" on her personal Facebook page."

Both of my grand parents on my mother's side came from Sicily and my uncle claimed to his dying day that he was innocent when he was sentenced to 8 - 12 years for racketeering back in the 70s, so my family takes umbrage when people throw the "mafia" label around.

As a TEA party member and an American with roots that meander through olive oil and garlic, I'm offended and don't accept her apology.

If diane savino were to commit public suicide, as a show of good faith, I'd be more inclined to accept her apology.

The correct phrase is “La Cosa Nostra” [”Our Thing”]. In Sicily it used to be referred to as “The Honored Society”. In Chicago, it’s “The Outfit” or “The Democrats”. I forget which
