Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday signed into law a measure ... addressing controversy over an anti-abortion demonstration.
Assemblyman Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) said he wrote the measure in response to a March 2003 incident in which graphic images of an aborted fetus were mounted on a vehicle and driven past a middle school in Rancho Palos Verdes.
"Because of the disturbing nature of the photographs, some students at the scene became angry, some began to cry... Mendoza said.
The bill was signed three years after a federal court found that the 1st Amendment rights of anti-abortion activists were violated when they were ordered to stop circling Dodson Middle School in a truck with billboard-sized photos of aborted fetuses...

I wonder how the aborted babies felt...
Mddle schoolers cried; babies died. No brainer.

Guy is a totalitarian nutcase.
Liberals love dead babies.
are only images of aborted fetus’s too graphic, or would the image of a removed tumor also be considered obscene by them. Aren’t the the same?
In SFO, the lawmakers are busy trying to figure out how to shut down the pro-life counseling services. Evidently live babies are a real problem for these people.
I think I would be pissed if someone drove around my daughters school with a billboard sized picture of anything shwoing graphic death.
I am very pro-life. I have long and meaningful conversations with my children about it. I have been to protests. I have urged lawmakers to pass pro-life laws.
That being said, if you want to show graphic pictures to your children that is fine. I just don’t believe children should be subjected to that imagery without someone explaining what it is first.
If only Jerry Brown and his ilk “wondered” that, too.
I hope you also complain when businesses run sex adds on TV that your children might see without your permission. I say let the abortionists tell your kids what those aborted children posters mean.
I also talk to my children about sex portrayed in all types of media. It’s called being a parent and raising your children up right. I don’t need an you, a graphic picture of murder, or especially an abortionist to show or tell my children about abortion. My kids will never be anywhere near an abortionist by the way.
Face it. Those graphic images are for shock value and nothing more. There are aplethora of ways to get the pro-life message out there.
It’s good that you yourself are giving your children the truth about the evil that threatens to do them in. But I urge people with your view to reconsider the extent to which they believe that children should be shielded from knowing about the crap that is being foisted upon them. For example, during the slavery years in the USA, southerners were shocked and angry when they were confronted with reports and pictures of slaves who had been branded and flogged without mercy. Sometimes graphic openness is the only way that an apathetic people can be confronted with the truth.
“I think I would be pissed if someone drove around my daughters school with a billboard sized picture of anything shwoing graphic death.”
...agreed. And then some people have the nerve to wonder why children just can’t be children anymore. One thing that they should NOT be are pawns in a war, and that goes for “both sides”.
I guess to each their own. IMHO I think the graphic images may due more harm than good. I don’t think it converts anyone to becoming pro-life it just causes a greater divide between the two sides. What do I know though? I am just one guy.
I do think though driving around middle schools is wrong. I would be eaually if not more pissed if the pro-abortionists were to drive around in a truck that said abortion is not murder near my daughters school.
I totally agree with you. It actually turns my stomach when I see children holding those graphic signs while standing by their parents shouting about murder.
Before you conclude that graphic images don’t convert anyone, consider what happened to my my daughter. She went to a pro-abortion demonstration, fully believing that abortion was a human right. Never asked me for my permission. When she got there, she was confronted by counter-protesters carrying those “offensive” graphic images of aborted babies. She was upset and totally grossed-out. She may not be a pro-lifer yet; but, from that point on, she has not said a word in defense of abortion. I am GRATEFUL that somebody cared enough to show her those pictures.
Ole Jer is a fine Catholic lad. Educated by Jesuits, I believe.
“My kids will never be anywhere near an abortionist”
I’ve got breaking news for you Greenville, unless you keep your daughters locked up in the house 24-7, you have little control over what they choose to do especially after they turn 16 and do the things that most kids their age do, like go to the mall, go to the movies, etc...Hormones are a powerfull thing as you should know and accidents happen no matter how much and how often you counsel them. Now the schools can even send your child to an abortion clinic and are not even required to inform the parent. Have you done anything about that? One of the best alternatives I’ve seen lately is the move to try to force abortion clinics to have the female have a sonogram done and have her watch her fetus (child) in the womb and see that it is truly a human life before they proceed with the abortion.
