I sent Mayor Bloomberg the following e-mail:
Dear Mayor, I heard about your program to provide employment for young minority ex-offenders with the city. Your idealism is misplaced. I worked with ex-offenders and they are 99% unemployable. Why do you think they would be good city employees? And what about white ex-offenders? The federal government gave a large tax credit to companies that hired them and that didn’t work either. One 29 year old black male had never worked a day in his life as he was in and out of jail since age 16. A private employer told me, “The person you sent stole my truck and $1000 worth of my goods.” I hadn’t personally sent that applicant, but I apologized profusely. Please do not waste millions of the taxpayers’ dollars, use that money to lower taxes and create jobs in the private sector.
