Perry says his rally is about prayers, not politics (will pray for God's wisdom to pour over Obama)

Reporting from Houston— Beneath the dome of an air-conditioned football stadium and a cloud of controversy, Texas Gov. Rick Perry will lead thousands of Christian fundamentalists in seven hours of prayer and fasting Saturday on behalf of a "nation in crisis."

"This isn't about me," Perry said. "It's about Jesus."

[snip]

Late last month, a federal judge in Houston rejected a lawsuit by an atheist group which had sought to prevent Perry from taking part, claiming it violated the separation of church and state. Civil liberties organizations are protesting both the exclusionary nature of the Christians-only program and the sponsors it describes as "intolerant religious extremists."

Perry plans to fast throughout the daylong event; while his exact role has been kept somewhat secret, he is expected to speak. Turnout for the rally also remains in question, though tens of thousands are likely to attend.

"It may just be me and a couple ushers in Reliant Stadium," Perry said the other day. "But that's OK. We're going to pray for the president of the United States, to have God's wisdom poured out over him, to have his eyes opened."

Plan A: ...We're going to pray for the president of the United States, to have God's wisdom poured out over him, to have his eyes opened." -- Governor Rick Perry

Plan B: 2012 -- President Rick Perry.

We should all pray for this. The president needs God’s wisdom. I am not being sarcastic either.

The LA Times continues to peddle the nonsense that a Christian oriented program is "exclusionary".

This is the usual propaganda of the Leftwingtard believers in "word magic". They actually fear that hearing the expression "In Jesus Name" is going to turn them into something else.

Frankly, we've got to get a handle on this business where people who believe in witchcraft are considered to be fair judges of Christian behavior and belief.

Which is, of course, slightly off the point here but Rick Perry's religious beliefs aren't any of my business, nor that of anyone else really. First Amendment rights don't end just because you get elected to public office.

It's as plain as the nose on our face.

I’m not sure Obama believes in God’s existence. He pretends to when it’s politically expedient. I join Governor Perry and hope God opens this president’s eyes.

Absolutely! It wouldn’t hurt to pray that God’s wisdom pours over the electorate who gave us this disaster of a president.

You hit the nail on the head. Personally, in Mexico I had a visiting pastor staying at my house and Governor Perry called, asking to speak to my guest pastor, ‘reminding him not to forget a prayer breakfast they had planned’. I don’t see anything anti American about what they have planned to do today. I wish the American Elite Media would go get a job driving trucks taking chickens from Joplin, dropping them off in Laredo. Texas.

“I never heard of a “Christians only” evangelical conference”

So true. To limit attendance to Christians negates the definiation of “evangelical”. There’s no need to evangelise current Christians; non-Christians are the audience of evangelism.

Good grief. Who do these idiots think they are telling the Gov. that he can not pray for the State and the country with others when he wants to.

Do these self hating atheists tell Muslims when they can and can not pray against the State and country? No. That would be biggoted.

I've noticed from all the ravings about this prayer event today in Houston, the idea of "dominionism" is being linked (by foreign and domestic writers) to Christians, conservatives, Tea Party politics and Gov. Rick Perry. I haven't "googled" these terms together, but it might be informative.

Aug 5, 2011: God is a Weapon --- “In Washington today and for the past 30 plus years, the Christian Right has marched to the sounds of thumping Bibles, fighting to cast America back into the Dark Ages of thought and action. They time and time again, claim they represent Christian morality and are striving for the restoration of our Country to a Christian Nation but they have, by their actions against "the least of them", revealed themselves as the very Pharisees and Sadducees Jesus was said to have warned his disciples against as acting within the Church for their own means rather that those of the people.

[snip ---quite a lot of hate in this rant]

These people; these lost souls infected with the disease of Biblical misinterpretation, know no bounds to their pursuit to force us back into the dark ages. To them, God is a weapon; one which they use daily against all of us through media hypnosis and false political rhetoric.

Unless We the People come to realize the very real danger of the insanity of Dominionism growing like a virus within our Government, is slowly infecting our very reason, the War in the Middle East will be the least of our worries.” – Steven Forrest is a Project Architect living in St. Petersburg, Florida. Currently, he is working to implement Green Building initiatives in several communities across Florida. Given the current situation in America and the continued stratification of society, he has taken to writing in an effort to contribute a bit of reason in a unreasoned news environment.

July 10, 2011 -- Al Arabiya News: Fundamentalists challenge wall between church and state …….”The political right and faith-based organizations have been working in coalitions for years. The embrace of Dominionists and the growth of the fringe Tea Party wing of the Republican party are but the latest wrinkles.

Aug 5, 2011: Aljazeera: Let America be America again (OpEd slams Rick Perry's call for prayer "The Response"] “As I wrote last week, there are a number of troubling facets of the New Apostolic Reformation [NAR] that cry out for media attention. The NAR is the significant, yet relatively little-known religious movement embraced by many prominent endorsers of Texas Governor Rick Perry's upcoming prayer event, "The Response". It represents a major break with the Religious Right of the past: it's not about issues or even "values". It's about power, pure and simple. About taking over the world, a form of Christian dominionism, and as I described, they've even got a seven-point plan for doing so - the "Seven Mountains Mandate"……………..”
