Wed column ping

For CNBC, it’s Happy Days
By Howie Carr | Wednesday, August 10, 2011 |

http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

CNBC is as every bit in the satchel for Barack Obama as MSNBC.

Not that any CNBC anchor would ever admit to getting a thrill up his leg whenever the clueless president gulps into his teleprompter. But they don’t have to. All you need to see is their coverage. After all, this is the same network that gave us Bush’s “jobless recovery” when unemployment was under 5 percent.

Now, we are told, 9-plus percent unemployment is “the new normal.”

Market goes down? A buying opportunity.

Market goes up? A buying opportunity.

Actually, the more the market goes down, the more stock you should buy. Ever hear of dollar-cost averaging, bub? Recession? What recession — CNBC says we’ve been in a “recovery” since June 2009.

If these hucksters were running this scam door-to-door, the bunco squad would have an all-points-bulletin out on them.

But they’re running their flim-flam on cable TV, on CNBC. See, the NBC networks have been sold to Comcast, but General Electric still maintains a 49 percent ownership stake. The same GE whose boss is Barack’s buddy Jeff Immelt, the same GE that paid zero income taxes last year on profits of $5.1 billion. What’s good for GE is good for Barack Obama, as Brian Williams, Andrea Mitchell and all the rest of the NBC cheerleading squad know.

What do you call it when the Dow goes down 575 Thursday, up 22 Friday, and then down another 635 on Monday? A soft patch.

Unemployment up? It’s unexpected. Unemployment down? It’s a green shoot! The economy is . . . soaring!

Two phrases nobody’s allowed to use on CNBC: “misery index” and “stagflation.” They’re permitted only during Republican administrations.

Another thing everyone on NBC knows: This is not 2008! Best way to get yourself corrected by Larry or Carlos or Maria is to compare this meltdown to what happened in 2008. The difference is, in 2008 all the NBC networks were trying to get rid of a Republican administration. In 2011, they’re trying to rescue an inept Democrat. That’s why 2008’s “jobless recovery” is 2011’s “new normal.”

Oh sure, on rare occasions a bear (someone like Rick Santelli) is allowed on CNBC, just like MSNBC has a Republican quota. But on panels only where they’re outnumbered. Four on one is Democrat fun.

The bear blurts out a sentence or two about a plunging stock, and one of the equities cheerleaders shakes his pom-poms and interrupts: “If you liked it at 8, you’ll love at 4, so just buy more more more . . .”

As Obama oddly said the other night, “This is not rocket science in terms of how we can create more jobs in this country.”

But making his rotten economy look good — that is rocket science. Just ask CNBC.

I don't listen to Howie on the Radio because of the Sandy thing. It is obvious that she is "professional" to the the extent that if the Marketing People told her to suck up to Louis XVI because he was a favorite of the audience demographic, she would do so to the best of her meager abilities. Obviously, she is a Democrat.

Howie of the Mordant Wit is one of those people who always wanted to be accepted by the Beautiful People while he attacks them, or maybe he attacks them because they will not accept him, or maybe he sees what crocks of shiite they actually are and is ambivalent about the whole Beautiful People thing.

Who knows? Who cares? It is a marvelous thing that he does. He is, IMNSHO, the journalistic equivalent of a .350 lifetinme hitter. That's rare.

Contrast him for example to the Stealth Democrat, BO'R, and the Looney Left Chrissie Mathews. Neither of them will ever be accepted by those whose attention they crave, namely the Left wing Intellectuals, but they slug away anyway.

There is something much worse going on in the country. That is that by now even some intellectuals realize that the Magic Marxist Mulatto is just another (semi) black hustler blowing smoke up their loonie left fundaments. Unfortunately, those opposed to him just keep repeating the bad news.

We no longer need to know how bad the charlatan is, and how horrible damage he has inflicted. We need to know who has a Program, what it is, what is the Plan, and who is the Leader to start implementing the repair .

I was out this afternoon with someone and they had mcscreamer on and a caller asked who was going to take her place when she goes in September, mcscreamer asked her producer if it was ok to make the announcement - he said yes - she said Jen Brien will be taking over.

Wonder if Howie’s on today? Jen Brien is in for McPhee (she will take over for McPhee next month anyway)...so is Michele in for Howie? We’ll find out. Nothing on the WRKO page yet (sometimes it’ll say if someone’s in for Howie...)

btw Howie said he is off ALL NEXT WEEK

If Howie is off next week hopefully mcscreamer will NOT be filling in - however, seeing at brien is taking mcscreamer’s place, they just may throw her into subbing for mcscreamer next week to get her feet wet with a big Boston audience. I’m hoping Avi and the colonel can fill in, won’t be listening if mcscreamer is filling in and won’t be watching channel 5 come September, actually I rarely watch WCVB news -

Bargain puts John Kerry in basement
By Howie Carr | Friday, August 12, 2011 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

“This tunnel will be a bargain.” — Sen. John Forbes Kerry, 2006.

It’s reassuring to know that Congress’ so-called Super Committee will have at least one solon on it who has a track record of being able to ferret out waste, fraud and abuse wherever it rears its bloated head.

How odd that John Kerry should be appointed to his august new position the very same week the Big Dig bargain tunnel of which he spoke so proudly has now sprung another “sinkhole.” We are informed that the sinkhole “poses no risk” to motorists, even though the Dig has already spent $3.5 million addressing the problem, with another $11.5 million budgeted to correct this latest fiasco.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: “Consultants evaluating the problem are at a loss to explain why the area has settled so much.”

But don’t forget, this tunnel will be a bargain. Of course, the occasional setback could still occur. In which case you might want to paraphrase another of Liveshot’s famous questions: “Can I get me a submarine here?”

Without getting bogged down in the details, which in the spirit of transparency finally have been revealed four years after they were first noticed, the geniuses who built the bargain Big Dig tried to freeze some of the land under the tunnel. Imagine their shock when they discovered that what is frozen also can thaw.

Among other things, the melting water ruined a huge drainage pipe, a high-voltage electrical duct and even buckled pavement in the (above-ground) Postal Service parking lot.

At least that’s what you’ve read in the papers, anyway. But at that same ribbon-cutting where Liveshot told us the tunnel would be a bargain, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank told us that much of the Big Dig’s bad press “has been manufactured by the media.”

You know, like the made-up headlines about the Jamaica Plain woman being crushed by a 3-ton slab of concrete falling from the tunnel ceiling.

That’s why Kerry lectured the media this week about how they should stop covering the Tea Party.

The thing about Liveshot is, not only does he always recognize a boondoggle when he sees one, but he also knows how to reach across the aisle to achieve a bipartisan solution. As Kerry observed just last week, “I hope Americans will understand how craven and empty and hollow and contradictory the Republican position is.”

Is that the pot calling the kettle black or what? Or maybe it was just another Kerry “botched joke.” All I know is, this tunnel will be a bargain.

And the MSM's typical masochistic response when dealing with a liberal? Oh Barney, hit us more...

maybe...McScreamer starts on Ch 5 on Sept 6. It’s possible
she’s burning off vaca. time or something, so gone next week, and as for “I don’t know how long”, maybe it’s pretty much permanent by now, but I’d expect her to be back for a few shows before it ends.
