Howie thread for the wk starting with his Sun Herald column
Guess the joke is on you, Sergeant
By Howie Carr
Sunday, August 7, 2011
Cops dont expect to get arrested for drunken driving. Neither do state reps. A cop who has 30 years on the job and four years in the Legislature never, ever figures hes getting lugged.
Just ask Sgt. Mark Preston of the Seabrook, N.H., police, who is charged with ingesting a bad ice cube a week ago at Salisbury Beach.
According to the police report quoted in the New Hampshire Union Leader, Prestons response to his arrest was to launch a filibuster, just like he was back in the N.H. House of Representatives.
What about the brotherhood? This is (bleep). Why arent you taking me home?
Did I mention his party affiliation? Democrat.
The Salisbury cops had no choice but to arrest ex-Rep. Preston, because hed allegedly slammed into a parked Kia that then skidded into two other cars.
But the police didnt have to humiliate their brother by quoting him at such length. Then they filed their reports at the courthouse in Newburyport, giving reporters even easier access to them.
After slamming into the parked car, Preston took it on the lam. He abandoned his Jeep Cherokee and started hoofing it back to New Hampshire, a few hundred yards north. When they caught up with the lamster, the Salisbury cops showed him no respect.
If this happened in Seabrook, we would take care of you guys! This is ridiculous, Preston is quoted as saying in the police report. You guys are a (bleeping) joke! I am a 30-year sergeant and you are going to do this to me? Really! My life and career are over! I hope you guys are (bleepin) happy!
The Democrat statesman went into another tirade as soon as the cell door clanged behind him.
Youre not putting me in a cell, right? I am not going into a cell. This is how you treat a cop? the report reads.
Then, according to the police report, he started in with the threats.
This is not what would happen in Seabrook if this was you guys. We would take care of you! Youll see. I will make sure we return the favor to you. You better watch out when you drive through Seabrook. You guys speed!
Actually, the Salisbury police did him a favor. The towns former police chief is due back in court in Lynn tomorrow, charged with four counts of larceny. He got $44,685 in so-called unused vacation time as he was forced out last winter.
Bottom line, the local constabulary isnt too popular in Salisbury these days.
A crowd quickly gathered near the accident scene and, according to the report, Over 100 people, most of them angry and irate, began to yell how Salisbury police were corrupt.
Sgt. Preston is due back in court Aug. 22. He could not be reached for comment. I guess he got it all off his chest last Sunday night.
Something has been very off about Howie’s sahow lately. Too many idiot callers, too many ‘soft’ subjects that are just boring.
At first I thought it was just Sandy being off on her honeymoon—I find her extremely irritating but she’s a good producer—but it’s been just as bad since she came back.
Howie going on about beautiful people while he has hair tansplants, liposuction, and is lobbing softball after softball to Scott Brown so he can get his daughter a job with him—he sure ain’t a man of the people anymore.
I miss Jerry Williams.
I heard a bit of the show the other day where Howie wanted Scott Brown on the air about the debt ceiling because callers wanted to know where Brown stood - Howie got all riled up about it and then when Brown got on the air Howie folded. How much longer does Howie have on his contract - it is next year or the year after he can flee RKO? He has a lot going on what with the books and appearances and doing the masters of suspense with mcscreamer and casey sherman and doesn't seem to be devoting too much time to the radioshow. I hope he can get a grip and return to the show to the way it used ot be.
Her show is exhibit A when I want to describe a show as “unlistenable.” If I switch from Rush to Howie a little early and have to hear her voice, I turn the sound down until 3.
On another thread it was stated that mcscreamer is going to be doing tv only come September. What no-talent will be taking her place? They replaced rush with that horrible charlie manning and replaced him with the even worse mcscreamer, who’s next? I caught a minute or two of the mcscreamer show last week and some lib whackjob named samanatha clemens was on the air filling in for mcscreamer -I hope they weren’t test driving her as a replacement, she was God awful and I had only listened for a minute or two!
“To Protect and Serve” PING!!!
Yeah, Howie has been sucking up to Scott Brown lately because he still goes on Howie's show. Sooner or later Howie is going to turn on Brown; until then, it's "he's better than Ted Kennedy would be!"
Most times Howie does the “he’s better than Marsha Marsha” - sometimes I can’t tell Marsha Marsha and Scott apart!
I think he'll improve once the book tour is over and the 2012 campaign kicks into high gear. As for WRKO, I'm guessing that Howie, for all his attitude towards the AM dial, will re-up with them when his contract is up. Where is he going to go to? 96.9 has taken a turn for the worse since they got rid of Severin. The guy that replaced him is pretty awful, it's a shame they didn't put Michael Graham into that slot.
I think people are too tough on Michelle McPhee. She may have a voice that only a Bostonian can love but her show is almost always good.
I just cannot stand her. Her voice is grating and her ‘I stand for the little guy’ thing, while it may indeed be sincere, just comes off as sucking up to her perceived audience. I can usually understand why even people I don’t like make it in the communications industry, but I can’t imagine anyone liking her shrillness.
When they lost Rush it was like pulling the foundation out from under them. Finneran is an utter joke, but his co-host is excellent—yet I loathe Finneran and his insider crap. (I have a neighbor who’s a friend of the Kennedy’s so I have little tolerance for that.)
If Howie gets any worse I won’t listen to him at all, just Rush. I don’t have time to listen to the entire show of either, but the few minutes I get of Rush are always worth it, even if I don’t agree with him, because he indeed does have an original and informed take on things. If Howie’s going to keep up this lame stuff, I’m gone.
As much as I like Feinberg I can’t listen to that show. Finneran is too much of a hack and cooksey is just beyond rude and ignorant. Ingraham is another screamer, lunch money doesn’t do it for me and mcscreamer, well mcscreamer no matter how good people claim her show is, I just can’t get beyond the screaming high pitched voice. I listen to Jeff Katz on talkradio 1200 - most of his show is a replay of interviews from the day before and from the hour before but he’s not a hack or a felon and doesn’t have an ignoramous for a producer! As someone mentioned above, perhaps after the book tour and the masters of suspense thing is over Howie will settle down and start actually doing a radioshow, until then I’d rather listen to music than hannity who is on opposite Howie or I’d rather half listen to Howie than Hannity!
As a listener, I don’t find the banter, scripted or not, between Howie and Sandy “good radio” - it’s ridiculous most days. Howie has always talked about moving permanently to Florida and maybe once his contract is up he just may pack up and find a station in Florida - but - no one does Boston politics like him and no one rags on the “maya”, kennedy and whitey like Howie! I hope you’re right about things calming down after the book tour and the 2012 elections starting to heat up - hope Howie can rein back in his audience. As for mcscreamer, I personally don’t care how good her show is, for me, I can’t get past the high pitched, ear bleeding, glass breaking voice!
I don’t think I’ve gotten beyond Hannity’s intro.
Maybe I’m just aging out of the talk radio phase. There are a lot more and better things to listen to than Howie hawking his book and not giving Scott Brown a hard time.
I used to like Ingraham but she’s changed. Her show just drags, and she just complains. Rush can get fiery and his anger brings out his sense of humor. Ingraham sounds like someone shouting for me to clean up the kitchen. Haven’t listened to her on purpose in months, but caught a little of her talking about the debt ceiling thing—she was actually saying something I believe but in such a way I couldn’t shut off the radio fast enough.
I stopped listening to Ingraham awhile ago, her show is a scream fest and when she’s not whining she’s hawking books, t-shirts, etc. etc. etc. She teases a story for an hour and a half then spends about 40 seconds on it - as for rush, well, I can’t stand listening to the ego inflation - most days he spends at least an hour if not more talking about himself or talking about the media talking about him - he can be condescending and doesn’t take criticism very well - I want someone who talks about the issues not himself, not his golf game, not his cigars, his jet, or what kind of candles he uses or what kind of beef he buys I don’t want to listen to someone who rolls into the fetal position or be condescending when someone disagrees with him or points out something that is incorrect. He isn’t trust worthy, he lied in the past about meeting with obama then came clean when it was suspected that someone was going to tell everyone about it - he’s not better than the politicians he talks about everyday.
I don’t know, Rush isn’t perfect, but no one is. I am prepared to dump on anyone who doesn’t listed to opposing views but I have no idea where you’re coming from there, he seems to have more calls from people who disagree with him than any talk show I’ve heard. (If he were that much afraid of them, they never would get on.)
I only listen to these folks for a little bit, but they are on for hours and hours each day. If everything in your post is accurate (I’m not accusing you of anything, btw, just don’t know what you refer to with the Obama reference), that’s not a whole lot to hold against a guy who’s been providing me with a lot of things to think about for over 20 years.
Maybe I give him a pass, but he’s earned it, and as I say, I only drop in and listen. I’d rather be doing something else if I’m at home.
Howie’s show is the best when he does a JF’nK segment.
He should dedicate a 1/2 hr every day to “Kerry Watch” and give it his all, like he used to do with Fat Boy and the ‘Wizard of Uhs’.
Call it “Liveshot and Lovey”?
I’d make sure I was listening just at that particular time...
For CNBC, its Happy Days

CNBC is as every bit in the satchel for Barack Obama as MSNBC.
Not that any CNBC anchor would ever admit to getting a thrill up his leg whenever the clueless president gulps into his teleprompter. But they dont have to. All you need to see is their coverage. After all, this is the same network that gave us Bushs jobless recovery when unemployment was under 5 percent.
Now, we are told, 9-plus percent unemployment is the new normal.
Market goes down? A buying opportunity.
Market goes up? A buying opportunity.
Actually, the more the market goes down, the more stock you should buy. Ever hear of dollar-cost averaging, bub? Recession? What recession CNBC says weve been in a recovery since June 2009.
If these hucksters were running this scam door-to-door, the bunco squad would have an all-points-bulletin out on them.
But theyre running their flim-flam on cable TV, on CNBC. See, the NBC networks have been sold to Comcast, but General Electric still maintains a 49 percent ownership stake. The same GE whose boss is Baracks buddy Jeff Immelt, the same GE that paid zero income taxes last year on profits of $5.1 billion. Whats good for GE is good for Barack Obama, as Brian Williams, Andrea Mitchell and all the rest of the NBC cheerleading squad know.
What do you call it when the Dow goes down 575 Thursday, up 22 Friday, and then down another 635 on Monday? A soft patch.
Unemployment up? Its unexpected. Unemployment down? Its a green shoot! The economy is . . . soaring!
Two phrases nobodys allowed to use on CNBC: misery index and stagflation. Theyre permitted only during Republican administrations.
Another thing everyone on NBC knows: This is not 2008! Best way to get yourself corrected by Larry or Carlos or Maria is to compare this meltdown to what happened in 2008. The difference is, in 2008 all the NBC networks were trying to get rid of a Republican administration. In 2011, theyre trying to rescue an inept Democrat. Thats why 2008s jobless recovery is 2011s new normal.
Oh sure, on rare occasions a bear (someone like Rick Santelli) is allowed on CNBC, just like MSNBC has a Republican quota. But on panels only where theyre outnumbered. Four on one is Democrat fun.
The bear blurts out a sentence or two about a plunging stock, and one of the equities cheerleaders shakes his pom-poms and interrupts: If you liked it at 8, youll love at 4, so just buy more more more . . .
As Obama oddly said the other night, This is not rocket science in terms of how we can create more jobs in this country.
But making his rotten economy look good that is rocket science. Just ask CNBC.

Howie of the Mordant Wit is one of those people who always wanted to be accepted by the Beautiful People while he attacks them, or maybe he attacks them because they will not accept him, or maybe he sees what crocks of shiite they actually are and is ambivalent about the whole Beautiful People thing.
Who knows? Who cares? It is a marvelous thing that he does. He is, IMNSHO, the journalistic equivalent of a .350 lifetinme hitter. That's rare.
Contrast him for example to the Stealth Democrat, BO'R, and the Looney Left Chrissie Mathews. Neither of them will ever be accepted by those whose attention they crave, namely the Left wing Intellectuals, but they slug away anyway.
There is something much worse going on in the country. That is that by now even some intellectuals realize that the Magic Marxist Mulatto is just another (semi) black hustler blowing smoke up their loonie left fundaments. Unfortunately, those opposed to him just keep repeating the bad news.
We no longer need to know how bad the charlatan is, and how horrible damage he has inflicted. We need to know who has a Program, what it is, what is the Plan, and who is the Leader to start implementing the repair .
Jen Breen to take over mcSCREAMER’s spot on rko.
Did they say that for sure? I’ll check Herald/Jessica Heslam etc.
It’s Jen Brien (sp)
I was out this afternoon with someone and they had mcscreamer on and a caller asked who was going to take her place when she goes in September, mcscreamer asked her producer if it was ok to make the announcement - he said yes - she said Jen Brien will be taking over.
thanks! will pass on to radio board :)
Further confirmation from Mark Schnyder who does a site called Boston Radio Watch. He tweeted the following to me when I mentioned it:
>>Yes,she has mentioed it a few times when I scanned by this week. One caller asked if it’s a ‘girl from the Cape’ - Jen Brien.Yes!
Wonder if Howie’s on today? Jen Brien is in for McPhee (she will take over for McPhee next month anyway)...so is Michele in for Howie? We’ll find out. Nothing on the WRKO page yet (sometimes it’ll say if someone’s in for Howie...)
btw Howie said he is off ALL NEXT WEEK
hurrah, Howie IS on
If Howie is off next week hopefully mcscreamer will NOT be filling in - however, seeing at brien is taking mcscreamer’s place, they just may throw her into subbing for mcscreamer next week to get her feet wet with a big Boston audience. I’m hoping Avi and the colonel can fill in, won’t be listening if mcscreamer is filling in and won’t be watching channel 5 come September, actually I rarely watch WCVB news -

St. Columbanus doubles as the patron saint of motorcycles, too.
Yes let’s hope McScreamer isn’t a fill in.

Bargain puts John Kerry in basement
By Howie Carr | Friday, August 12, 2011 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

This tunnel will be a bargain. Sen. John Forbes Kerry, 2006.
Its reassuring to know that Congress so-called Super Committee will have at least one solon on it who has a track record of being able to ferret out waste, fraud and abuse wherever it rears its bloated head.
How odd that John Kerry should be appointed to his august new position the very same week the Big Dig bargain tunnel of which he spoke so proudly has now sprung another sinkhole. We are informed that the sinkhole poses no risk to motorists, even though the Dig has already spent $3.5 million addressing the problem, with another $11.5 million budgeted to correct this latest fiasco.
Stop me if youve heard this one before: Consultants evaluating the problem are at a loss to explain why the area has settled so much.
But dont forget, this tunnel will be a bargain. Of course, the occasional setback could still occur. In which case you might want to paraphrase another of Liveshots famous questions: Can I get me a submarine here?
Without getting bogged down in the details, which in the spirit of transparency finally have been revealed four years after they were first noticed, the geniuses who built the bargain Big Dig tried to freeze some of the land under the tunnel. Imagine their shock when they discovered that what is frozen also can thaw.
Among other things, the melting water ruined a huge drainage pipe, a high-voltage electrical duct and even buckled pavement in the (above-ground) Postal Service parking lot.
At least thats what youve read in the papers, anyway. But at that same ribbon-cutting where Liveshot told us the tunnel would be a bargain, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank told us that much of the Big Digs bad press has been manufactured by the media.
You know, like the made-up headlines about the Jamaica Plain woman being crushed by a 3-ton slab of concrete falling from the tunnel ceiling.
Thats why Kerry lectured the media this week about how they should stop covering the Tea Party.
The thing about Liveshot is, not only does he always recognize a boondoggle when he sees one, but he also knows how to reach across the aisle to achieve a bipartisan solution. As Kerry observed just last week, I hope Americans will understand how craven and empty and hollow and contradictory the Republican position is.
Is that the pot calling the kettle black or what? Or maybe it was just another Kerry botched joke. All I know is, this tunnel will be a bargain.
Article URL: http://www.bostonherald.com/news/columnists/view.bg?articleid=1358124
And the MSM's typical masochistic response when dealing with a liberal? Oh Barney, hit us more...
Turned on RKO and caught the last couple of seconds of mcscreamer’s show and what’s her name was filling in - brien - she said she will be in next week from 1-3 but she doesn’t know for how long - is mcscreamer gone? could we be THAT lucky?
maybe...McScreamer starts on Ch 5 on Sept 6. It’s possible
she’s burning off vaca. time or something, so gone next week, and as for “I don’t know how long”, maybe it’s pretty much permanent by now, but I’d expect her to be back for a few shows before it ends.
