Obama's empty jobs vow: Castles in the sand
Sunday, August 7, 2011
Fresh from signing a debt-ceiling increase that provides no shelter from the storm ahead, President Barack Obama stepped before the cameras in the Rose Garden last week and vowed to renew his focus on jobs and the economy.
And where will these jobs come from? Supposedly, from key government "investments." In other words, from the same failed government policies that have stifled economic growth and threaten more damage.
"Obama does not have much presidential persuasion left. He is running out of capital," says James Thurber of American University's Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies.
Witness Washington's latest "big deal." It's clear about raising the nation's debt ceiling (spending) by $2.4 trillion in toto. But details get fuzzy on any specific cuts, which are pushed back beyond 2012 -- if they happen at all.
Ditto for any reforms of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, which get kicked further down the road despite the trio's trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities.
So, we have a deficit-reduction plan that pays lip service to unsustainable entitlement spending, which is driving up the nation's debt. Add to that burden all the deleterious diktats of ObamaCare.

Stop giving this man a hard time because he is black. -sarc
More importantly, how was his Hip-Hop barbeque?
I beg to differ. He was just given another $2.4 trillion worth of capital. No strings attached until after the 2012 election. What a country!
” Stop giving this man a hard time because he is black. -sarc”
We don’t like his white half either!
Taxing a shrinking minority of productive people to pay others to dig holes and fill them back in is not a “jobs program”. It is Soviet economics. What good will it do to build roads, bridges and train tracks when people don’t have jobs to which to commute, or money to buy products being transported to market upon such infrastructure?
Republicans don't need many of their own speeches. A Power Point of Obama's own predictions is enough.
Government has invested in the poor, and the poor have doubled. Maybe even tripled! It’s a great investment.
Obama’s job has been to create more dependency in order to create more demonRat voters.
More people on food stamps = more people who will vote demonRat.
The best solution would be to repeal Obamacare and make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Fire all the people that have been hired to implement Obamacare.
“Obama does not have much presidential persuasion left. He is running out of capital,”
This mindless quote assumes he ever had such capital. The health care debate pretty much exploded that myth. The popularity of the health plan declined in direct proportion to the number of speeches (perhaps “lectures” would be more accurate) Obama gave on the topic. His powers of persuasion always have been vastly overrated by the MSM and professoriate.
I have not heard anything the carnival barker has said lately but let me guess, we need to “invest in education, invest in infrastructure, invest in job training programs,” etc. Same old tired mantra they use when they want to kick money to their supporters.
Ah, watch out when a democrat politician uses the “investment” word. Such as “Investing in education.” Hold onto your wallets! The teacher’s union coffers must be getting low.
He is going to blow through the new debt ceiling money in record time!
Let NO one on governments assistance vote. When they are a productive citizen again...then they can have the right to vote.
How do we know at the polls if they are on government assistance...easily...put their name in the computer when their name pops up on government rolls receiving assistance...they can’t vote.
How is that going to ever come about? I don’t disagree with you but it’s never going to happen. Can’t even drug test welfare recipients and all the libs I know totally agree that this needs to be done.
