Violence erupted in broad daylight this afternoon as rioters surrounded police vans, looted lorries and targeted shops in a series of attacks across London.
Scores of police raced to Hackney as a mob of hooded youths began hurling missiles at the officers. There was also sporadic violence in nearby Dalston where shops and businesses were attacked and youths clashed with police and set fire to cars outside Lewisham Town Hall.
Other areas of London were braced for violence as shops closed early in Peckham, Stratford and Islington and barriers were erected outside Westfield Shopping Centre. Kilburn High Street has also been closed off.

I am due to travel into London on business tomorrow.......getting pretty nervous!
If you search the tag #londonriots on twitter you get some clear first hand accounts.....the TV media has been woefully poor in reporting on this.

The brit papers are already carrying plenty of comments from witnesses who are getting fed up with the coppers’ timidity.
Just like the Battle of Seattle and other riots the lowlifes can smell weakness and take advantage.
If you’ve got a timid, “social-worker-with-a-badge”, politically-correct police force you are guaranteed rioting, excuse me, “urban unrest”.
The police are being way too nice to the looters and thugs. It is time to start shooting looters and maiming the rioters.
Take some of the early looters out and let them bleed out in the street and the rest will back down. Tough times calls

There is a new element, cropping up recently.
I have read that in recent riots, cell-phone pix of looters are going viral and people are being identified, named and shamed—outside of the system—and are suffering probably life-long consequences.
The media keeping mentioning "Jamaican gangsters", but what they refuse to mention, and what many of us know, is that there are just as many as Turkish Muslims in this area, and they are deeply involved in these riots.

Vast majority of Muslims in UK are South Asians: Pakistanis, Indians and Bengalis. For obvious reasons, most Muslims in UK are from the former empire.
The somewhat derogatory term for UK Muslims is "Pakis."
Yes very true......these people do make me laugh, I am 24 and so quite in touch with this sort of generation. The sort of good muslims that drink alcohol and and cause all sorts of trouble........

I don’t believe a word of that; in a country with a camera on every corner, the looters I’ve seen have done the right thing by covering or partially covering their faces with t-shirts, bandanas, whatever. And of course, the simplest way to put a halt to all this would be for the gov’t to order that anyone rioting with their face covered up would be liable for summary execution on the spot. But....the gov’t won’t do that.
Generally, yes. But this area of London has the largest single collection of Turkish immigrants (legal and illegal) in the UK.
you seriously don’t get it; the Brit gov’t supports the rioters which is why the cops go light on them. See, the only population the Brit gov’t worries about is the Anglo-Brit population, i.e., the indiginous population. So...they go light on the Jamaicans as a warning to the Anglo’s that “if they come for you, you’re on your own”. So the Anglo-Brit population cowers in fear and loathing with full knowledge that if they get out of hand, the Gov’t will unleash the Jamaicans on them and then support the Jamaicans by killing the Anglo-Brits. This is an old commie trick for manipulating ethnic group hatred to the gov’ts advantage.

From what I understand, Turks in Europe have to date been less involved in these types of riots than Algerians, Moroccans, Pakis, etc. That could of course be changing.
I’m assuming you’re traveling on business or for pleasure? Then you are probably going to safe neighborhoods and/or the West End and City of London. I’m sure you’ll be fine! Have fun! It’s a great city.

It’s business...I live in a town about 20 miles north of London.......but actually it is to inspect some property developments my company does work on........and unfortunately they are in some rather horrible places that look horrific on your average day let alone when there’s riots going on!
But I figure it should be ok during the day!
