Verizon Communications Inc. reported a dozen cases of sabotaged cable lines and warned of delays in repairs and customer service on the second day of a strike involving 45,000 employees.
The telecommunications company said there have been 12 acts of sabotage to telephone lines, Internet and television services in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey and New York since the strike began.
Fiber-optic lines were intentionally cut in Tewksbury and several other cities on the East Coast, the company said. Stolen equipment in Cedar Grove, N.J. affected service to a local police department and a heat system was tampered with at a central office in Manhattan.
This could be a dangerous situation if people need to reach fire, police, or emergency responders and cant use their phone, said Phil Santoro, a spokesman for Verizon.

Union thugs no doubt.
Fire ‘em all. Disband the union. There is an army of unemployed who would like the work.
Bu... bu... bu... but... “we have to help the working (union) man by continuing to increase his salary so his union can give more to Democraps so they can continue to increase the salary of the working (union) man”.
Civil war is coming and it’s not going to be pretty. Finally, though, the American public is beginning to see through the self-serving, revolving door of Union Dues = Demonrats = Stealing Taxes from hard working Americans to give to Union Dues...
The left: Thugs, hypocrites and cowards.
In other words, business as usual
Can they even do that? I thought Verizon would have to go through some long drawn out process before they can completely replace these union slackers?
These people were out protesting the local Verizon center I pass on the way to the office. They were in red shirts with white and red signs and looked highly uninterested in being there - probably much like most of them act on the job.
Verizon would be much better off if they could break this union.
Someone mentioned yesterday there needs to be a counter-protest by unemployed people saying “Fire them, Hire me”.
Personally, I hate unions and I think anyone who strikes should be at risk of firing.
They refuse to pay a penny toward ther own healthcare.
Fire them all.
Replace them quickly, cuz I am on FiOS.
Union members engaging in sabotage? Say it ain’t so!!!
Why are not unions charged with RICO crimes???
My company had to deal with a Verizon outage. I have no idea if it was a cable break or whether it was due to the usual hazards or if it was sabotage or not. But we did see that response time to getting these fixed is also much slower than normal because of the lack of workers.
Any doubt that Unions are communists organizations and are violent.
There should be no reason why employees of private firms cannot collectively bargain. Likewise, there should be no reason why an employer cannot selectively fire. State level involvement in these affairs should be outlawed except to investigate and prosecute violence, threats, sabotage, etc.
What Verizon should say: “Every union employee who went on strike instead of reporting for work has been terminated. We now have X positions open.”
This isn’t the 19th century any longer; the time when unions had legitimate complaints is long past.
DOD needs to get involved in tampering with communications.
