Leadership: If the president meant to calm the markets on Monday, he failed utterly — and no wonder. All he did was make it clear he's completely out of ideas on how to get the economy moving again.
After his televised remarks, the Dow industrial average continued to fall, finishing 5.5% lower. The Nasdaq plummeted 6.9%.
Why should it have been any different? In his brief statement, the only thing President Obama demonstrated was a cluelessness about the country's current mess — of which the debt downgrade is just the latest example — and an even weaker grasp on how to fix it.
Obama put forward just four "growth" ideas, not one of which will accelerate the snail-paced recovery.
• Raise taxes on the rich. We haven't polled every Keynesian economist alive today, but we're pretty sure few would agree with Obama that raising taxes on the most productive parts of the economy will turbocharge growth. Yet there was Obama once again insisting on it, this time dressed up as "tax reform."

You gotta love his speech writer. Sure hope he never gets rid of him/her. Have we ever had a president that’s as clueless as this guy? How do we get rid of this guy?
As tempting as it is to think it’s deliberate, I defer to Occam’s Razor. He really does come across as someone who has risen far above his level of incompetence. If anyone did have a plan to destroy the USA, it would be the people who sold Obama as a leader since it is obvious that he is easy to manipulate.
I'd like to agree with you, but I have to wonder. Most of the time, things that one wants to ascribe to conspiracy are actually due to accident and error. But, in those rare cases when a real conspiracy exists, its far worse than one could ever imagine.
Is he just a left wing buffoon zealot, or is he the true Manchurian Muslim candidate. When you look at the sealing of his records, and take in the scope of his appointments and politicization of various government functions, you've got to wonder. By the way, has anyone seen him take a daylight snack during Ramadan?
