Polygamist heard on tape training girls for sex
KTUL ^

Posted on 08/08/2011 10:51:40 PM PDT by LouAvul

Prosecutors seeking life in prison for convicted polygamist leader Warren Jeffs closed their case with a final barrage of graphic audiotapes, records of 24 alleged underage brides and writings that ordered followers to "fight to the death" when police eventually came for him.

The same jury that convicted Jeffs last week of sexually assaulting two of his child "brides" could now hand down their punishment early as Tuesday. Even in prison, he could continue to lead the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Among the final pieces of evidence was an audiotape of Jeffs having sex and one of him telling five girls to "set aside all your inhibitions" as he gives his child brides instructions on how to please him sexually.

One of the tapes had to do with him sexually assaulting a 12 year old girl.

Thanks for looking that up. I thought it was scarier though....must be thinking of “WHATEVER YOU DID UNTO ONE OF THE LEAST, YOU DID UNTO ME “
Which, when I just found it, had to do with random acts of kindness. I must be recalling a pastor’s interpretation (e.g., and the corollary must therefore be true?)- I think he was talking about child abuse in his sermon and I extended his use of this verse too far, probably.

This is why the Mormans had to leave for Utah in the first place. The rest of America at the time would not tolerate them.

The Mormans left Ohio because Joseph Smith started a bank and all of the money mysteriously disappeared. The Mormans left shortly there after as there were threats on the lives of the banks officers of which Smith was one.

For the record, the Mormons left Ohio after the failure of the Kirtland Safety Society. Their bank was never chartered with the state, never had any contributed capital, never had any competent management, and issued large amounts of counterfeit money. Thousands of people were financially ruined in the fiasco, which was one of the triggers of the Panic of 1837 and following five year depression ... one of the worst economic downturns in this country's history. Smith and Rigdon fled Ohio to escape criminal prosecution.

"If the people [of Missouri] come on us to molest us, we will establish our religion by the sword. We will trample down our enemies and make it one gore of blood from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. I will be to this generation a second Mohammed, whose motto in treating for peace was ‘the Quran or the Sword.’ So shall it eventually be with us – Joseph Smith or the Sword" – History of the Church, Vol. 3, p. 167.

The Mormons left Missouri after undergoing a "civil war" (as per Hubert Bancroft's History of Utah), followed by the Missouri Mormon War. Among other things, the Saints private army (known as the Danites) committed numerous atrocities, including killing several Missouri guardsmen and mutilating their lifeless bodies. Smith's declaration of war is shown directly above.

Smith, Rigdon and other Mormon leaders were captured at the end of the conflict; were charged with "treason, murder, arson, burglary, robbery, larceny, and perjury," and were ordered held without bail. They escaped from authorities (they bribed their custodian with money and a small keg of whiskey) while being transported to stand trial and fled to Illinois.

The Saints, sans Smith (who was killed in a blotched jailbreak) and Rigdon (who was unceremoniously dumped in a power struggle following Smith's death), left Illinois after a second civil war (re. Bancroft), two more deployments of the National Guard, and numerous internal struggles -- known collectively as the Illinois Mormon Wars. Gerald Tanner also presents convincing evidence that the Saints were again involved in widespread counterfeiting.

Upon arrival in Utah, the Saints continued their bloody criminal legacy for decades. Among other things, they were engaged in eight named Indian wars, the Utah War of 1857 (against the United States), the Mountain Meadows Massacre (of about 120 Christian settlers passing through Utah on their way to California), and four more "civil wars" (Bancroft). The Saints' "destroying angel," Porter Rockwell (above) is estimated to have murdered at least 150 persons, many of them Saints, many through the Mormon doctrine of "Blood Atonement." The Mormons were heavily involved in the Bear River Massacre, which resulted in the slaughter of about 400 Shoshone Indians.

Bottom Line: Upon considering Mormonism's troubled history, there are numerous sound reasons why, "The rest of America at the time would not tolerate them."

Note the eyes.

I don't know if the guy truly had crazy eyes... but in fairness, those eyes may just be an artifact of the photography. Back in those days, exposure times were sometimes out to several seconds and people had to sit very, very still. But the eyes would commonly blur out from even slight movement. The photographers often had to "paint" them back in during the printing process.

And to think we even had FR posters like HD1200 defend the fLDS' explanation of a temple bed back in April 2008.

I also seem to recall some borderline questionable commentary by CharlesWayneCT on such temple beds, but since I don't have a specific comment in front of me (like I do HD1200)...I'll let CharlesWayneCT weigh in now as to how he feels about all this three years after the fact.

Looking for the record I find a different story.

I used Fawn Brodie's No Man Knows My History and Hubert Bancroft's History of Utah as my primary sources, although the account is available elsewhere and can be easily verified through public records (referenced in Brodie IIRC).

Obviously, I know nothing about you personally, but would guess that you are probably LDS based on your comment about finding a different account of the Kirtland Safety Society fiasco in the records you consulted. Either way, you should be advised that the Mormon Church is infamous for distorting, rewriting, concealing and fabricating facts about historical incidents deemed embarrassing by church leadership to their cause.

Perhaps the most famous example concerns Mark Hofmann who sold at least 48 fabricated documents to the LDS Church (shown above left peddling a copy of the "Anthon transcript" to President Kimball, future President Hinkley, and Apostles Tanner, Romney, and Packer). The Church would either proudly display or secret away Hofmann's creations depending whether they were deemed beneficial or detrimental.

My favorite Hofmann forgery was the "Salamander Letter" wherein Joseph supposedly told Martin Harris yet another (of nine by my count) version of the First Vision wherein this time Joseph was supposedly visited by an elf disguised as an amphibian. Gerald Tanner, engaged as an expert by the U.S. Government, immediately dismissed the document as a fraud. On the other hand, LDS leadership, relying on the opinion of a forensic documents examiner, accepted the letter as genuine and made payments to Mark.

Please let me know if you feel that the Hofmann incident was an anomaly concerning Church attempts to distort historical records, and, time permitting, I would be pleased to provide you with many more examples.
