Speculation on Perry revs into overdrive
Houston Chronicle ^ | August 9, 2011 | RICHARD S. DUNHAM WASHINGTON BUREAU with Joe Holley

Posted on 08/09/2011 2:48:20 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

WASHINGTON — After nearly three months of public posturing and private deliberation, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is looking very much like a presidential candidate.

...Here are 10 important steps on Perry's road ahead.

1. The tea party primary

....For Perry to defeat Romney, he must emerge as the conservative alternative.........

2. The money primary

By this time...Texas Gov. George W. Bush had raised more than $37 million. Perry, still a non-candidate, has raised zero.....

3. Rudy-palooza

....Perry endorsed...Rudy Giuliani... This time, Perry is counting on the moderate Yankee to reciprocate.....

4. The Iowa caucuses

Iowa Republicans will be the first to choose delegates....[in]caucuses, slated for Jan. 16. No clear leader has emerged.........

5. The New Hampshire primary

While Iowa is tailor-made for a Perry breakthrough... "Live Free or Die" state has not been friendly to social conservatives in the past.....

6. The South Carolina primary

...very conservative, Southern state is fertile ground for Perry......

7. The sprint to Super Tuesday

"If he comes in and wins South Carolina, you can really see him being a steamroller and going through the rest of the campaign,"....

8. Bridges to the establishment

If Perry is standing after Super Tuesday, he'll need to make inroads with establishment Republicans to win a first-ballot majority at the [NRC].

9. Target: Tampa

Perry would have several goals at the GOP convention in Tampa: Unifying his party, defining the stakes of the 2012 election and taking aim at key swing states, starting with host Florida.

10. Next stop: 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

With the nomination in hand, Perry would focus like a laser beam on the economy, comparing his Texas record of job creation and balanced budgets with President Barack Obama's record of rising unemployment and deficits....

No mention of Sarah Palin in the article. Why?

I’ll repost this from another Perry thread:

Well, he’s been a 3 time governor of a very Republican state who has overseen the 16th largest economy in the world, if that tells you anything.
In order to do that, he’s had to placate the ever growing Hispanic population here. It’s call *Political Reality*

You will hear about the Dream Act he signed in 2001 which allowed children of illegals to attend Texas colleges with in-state rates. True

You will hear he is an open borders advocate. False He has continuously asked for troops on our border and sent State troopers and Texas Rangers to back up local LEOs

You will hear he favor Mexican citizens over US ones. False

You will hear rich Republicans got him reelected. mostly true.

You will hear he’s proposed a plan to build several thousand miles of new roads making shipments from China and Mexico easier and more efficient. He did but, Texans didn’t like it so, he listened.

You will hear he wanted to force young girls to take a cervical cancer drug. He did try to mandate it but, again it was not well received and had a parental opt-out clause. He Listened.

Otherwise he’s an actual, born and raised Texan from a modest background who serve in the USAF and graduated from TAMU.

BTW: He NEVER lost an election and I wouldn’t put this one past him.

BobL and many of the other Perry haters are Palin fans. (and can’t seem to get over it)

I’ve been trying to gauge Perry by what other Texans think of him. It doesn’t seem that most Texans on this board are all that excited about a Perry presidential run. Why?

Your gauge is broken, inactive, biased, all the above?

Perry is strongly supported. The more he's vetted the better. His coattails will be massive.

I supported the idea of Sarah Palin running, then I reassessed her and the field. Perry was making his move. The more I researched Gov. Perry and I did a lot (thanks to the flurry of anti-Perry cabal -- who would ping each other because they need to appear like a large percentage of the commenters to a thread to do their "job") the more I found the facts and the truth about Rick Perry and posted it.

When do you see Sarah Palin announcing? How realistic is it for her to launch a national campaign at this late date and have people move to her over? She keeps things too private, which is off putting. That may be fine with the MSM but it makes potential voters nervous and uneasy about her depth, ability and sincerity to run for the White House.

The concern I had with a Perry candidacy, at first, was that for the past 24 years, we had a Texan in the White House for 12 of those 24 years. I wondered, if possibly, there could be “Texas fatigue” with the voters. But after Barack Obama fatigue..... who the hell cares? Just get someone in there who can kick his butt and send him back to Thug Land, IL.

(But, “Texas fatigue” could be an issue with some voters. I won’t go into whether or not I think Rick Perry is,or has been, a good Governor. I do NOT want to cripple anyone who might be B. Hussein Obama’s opponent in 2012)

I'll see you and raise you.

The MOVEMENT behind blocking TTC :

[CorridorWatch.org Files Comment and Complaint at NEPA Tier One TTC-35 DEIS Public Hearing During the July 27, 2006, Public Hearing in Dallas, Texas, David Stall presented oral comments and submitted written comments on behalf the members of ”CorridorWatch.org

Texas ENVIRONMENTAL Grantmakers GroupDavid Stall of Corridor Watch, a 501[c][4] monitoring the Trans Texas Corridor project, began our discussion about transportation and environmental impacts. He explained that his background was in government, both as general manager of the cities of Nassau Bay, Columbus, and Shoreacres, and as a 4th generation public servant. With that experience, he considers the Trans Texas Corridor (TTC) project to have little to do with transportation, nor with the Texas Department of Transportation, the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M, nor regional urban traffic planners. To Mr. Stall, the TTC seems to be a rather desperate effort by the Governor’s office to generate revenue……………”

CorridorBotch.org, or David Stall-ed “It appears that as a political issue, the Trans Texas Corridor (TTC) does not cut nearly the swath its opponents allege the asphalt itself will.

For we find CorridorWatch.org (CW.org) founder David Stall falling pronouncedly flat in his bid to become District 18's state Senator. In a jurisdiction he has spent the last two years dousing with disinformation regarding just what the TTC will be, his attempts at grassroots movement failed to translate into grassroots support…………

According to their website, Stall's wife Linda founded CorridorWatch.org in February of 2004. Of course her beau had a hand therein, but because he was the City Manager of Columbus, Texas, at the time, the website leans heavily on her influence at the organization's inception.

David Stall's involvement in so political an institution as this quickly led to his dismissal from his city post. Columbus officials were also less than thrilled that Stall had registered CorridorWatch.org using the city's account. Oops.

The Stalls immediately began driving hours in any direction from their Fayetteville home to attend Texas Department of Transportation (TxDoT) meetings to disingenuously participate in the open forum process. As their disinformation spread, they began culling fellow travelers on the no-Road to Anywhere; we here know from first-hand accounts that either the Stalls or members of their growing circle of lubricious surrogates have fanned out across the state to pitch false information on the potential throughway.

If everything with which these CW.org miseducators, and their brethren in groups such as Texas Toll Party, have been frightening or angering these poor residents into intellectual submission were true, the TTC would be a slab of concrete spanning from Beaumont east to El Paso west, and pave the state in totality between San Antonio and Dallas.

Every town to which these people pay a visit is told that they are in dire danger of being diametrically bifurcated by the coming highway, no matter how far east or west they might be. To cite but one fraudulent example, residents of every single city, town and village along the Taylor-Manor corridor have been regaled with egregiously fabricated tales of municipalitive destruction and vociferous eminent domain pillaging.

The problem is, Corridor Watch et. al. are by no means allowing the facts to get in the way of a good beating. Every proposed path (and there are still at the very least three) currently under consideration places the TTC on the northern and southern ends of planned SH-130, which is a good fifteen miles west of the villes in question and in crisis over their alleged impending devastation.

That these Corridor clowns are asserting anything with certitude belies their veracity on all things, because right now NO ONE outside of the TxDoT TTC circle knows anything about any aspect of the plans…………………..”

**************************

Have you driven on that TTC road? NO because it doesn't exist.

So because we’re near Mexico we’re not allowed to build road infrastructure! Really!

25, 000,000 people live in Texas. Have you witnessed the dead stop back-up on major Texas freeways as people were fleeing the coast and approaching hurricanes?

Dallas to Austin – 4 hour drive (takes longer than pre interstate days due to congestion)

As Gov. Perry stated, Texas needs a bigger interstate highway footprint; we need more lane highways between major cities.

Houston’s Port ranks with New York and Los Angeles ports. We need to be able to move products and people.

******************

"The Port of Houston": The Port of Houston is a 25-mile-long complex of diversified public and private facilities located just a few hours’ sailing time from the Gulf of Mexico. The port is ranked first in the United States in foreign waterborne tonnage (14 consecutive years); first in U.S. imports (19 consecutive years); second in U.S. export tonnage and second in the U.S. in total tonnage (19 consecutive years).

The Port of Houston is made up of the Port of Houston Authority and the 150-plus private industrial companies along the Houston Ship Channel. All together, the port authority and its neighbors along the ship channel are a large and vibrant component of the regional economy.

More than 220 million tons of cargo moved through the Port of Houston in 2009. More than 7,700 vessel calls were recorded at the Port of Houston during the year 2009. The Houston Pilots navigate each vessel through the Houston Ship Channel.

The Port of Houston has an impressive listing of firsts, from unloading the world’s first container ship to becoming the country’s first port to receive ISO 14001 compliance. The Houston Ship Channel

The Houston Ship Channel has been a catalyst for growth in Harris County since the first journey of a steamship up Buffalo Bayou in 1837. The ship channel plays a critical role in today’s community as well. It generates jobs and opportunities that allow businesses to flourish.

A 2007 study by Martin Associates says ship channel-related businesses contribute to more than 785,000 jobs throughout Texas while generating nearly $118 billion of statewide economic impact. Additionally, more than $3.7 billion in state and local tax revenues are generated by business activities related to the port. It is projected that the Port of Houston will continue to be an important factor as north-south trade expands.

2008 Port of Houston Ranking:

• 1st in the U.S. in foreign tonnage for 13 consecutive years;
• 1st in imports for 18 consecutive years and
• 2nd in U.S. in total tonnage for 18 consecutive years;
• 7th largest U.S. Container port Source

”Big Bad” Cintra: ".......The SH 130 Concession Company is an independent company formed by Cintra, a multinational corporation based in Spain, and Zachry American Infrastructure headquartered in San Antonio. Cintra, described as one of the world’s largest private-sector developers of transportation infrastructure, currently manages 21 toll highways worldwide. Cintra’s portfolio includes the Chicago Skyway, the Indiana Toll Road and the 407 ETR toll highway in and around Toronto, Canada.

Zachry American Infrastructure was created in 2005 to develop U.S. infrastructure investments in the transportation, energy and water sectors. The Zachry family’s older entity, Zachry Construction Corp., has built more than 1,000 heavy construction projects including more than 110 projects along the U.S. Interstate highway system. Cintra-Zachry in June 2006 reached a $1.3 billion agreement with the state of Texas to build segments 5 and 6 of SH 130. In exchange for its investment, Cintra-Zachry gets the right to collect tolls for 50 years in a revenue-sharing agreement with the state......"

********************** Small roads are squeezed because the bigger roads can't handle the traffic. Travel times are prohibitive for both people trying to get somewhere (work?) (fun?) and for the transport of goods and services for the growing Texas economy.

At long last, U.S. 290 work will begin-- Local officials symbolically break ground on massive project ““We recognized the importance of a good transportation system to our community both from mobility and safety standpoint. The traffic volume on U.S. 290 is more than 26,000 vehicles per day.”

*******************

I-35 is a nightmare. People ask online how to avoid it.

People couldn't get out of the way of last 2 major hurricanes (told to evacuate) and were stranded on freeways (dead stopped) w/o gas or food.

We are (as are people in all meto areas) fighting off light rail projects being pushed by ENVIRONMENTALISTS who endlessly tie road projects up in court (driving up costs) to stop infrastructure construction, as they tout toy trains that NO ONE wants but Leftists and unions. Texas is BIG it's hundreds of miles between towns (with a lot of small and medium towns and farming communities in between) and we don't want to go where LIBERALS tell us to go and when and how often.

**********************

Sierra Club and State Transportation Plan: “The Houston chapter of the Sierra Club has issued a report that itemizes TxDOT’s State Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) projected costs of building the 186-mile State Highway 99 around the Houston region during the next 4 years. The total is $4,824,492,381.

"By comparison, the total cost allocated for building Houston’s 5 new light rail lines is $3.3 billion and the cost of building a complete, 5-line base regional commuter rail system has been estimated at less than $3 billion. [In the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan, those SH 99 costs totaled over $6 billion.

The first segment to be built is scheduled to be across the open Katy Prairie at a cost of over $350 million. That is slightly more than the cost of building the 290 commuter rail line. Additionally, the STIP contains $468 million for improving US 290, but notes that it is $170 million short of funds for the first project. For comment on that see “How would you spend $350 million?” To participate in a survey about this priority, go to spend350million.org.]"

*********************

The lawyers, unions and environmentalists will work this gig as long as they can. They did it in Maryland with the ICC for over 40 years! It took electing a Republican governor (In Maryland!) and replacing local reps to get it approved, started and built. Now people can get to a job and get home to their families and the economic engine of road infrastructure works. A rail-like Metro that is subsidized in the D.C./Maryland metroplex (and others in "use" and in planning stages) is NOT the answer for Texas or any state that wants to stay independent and productive.

He was quoted as saying that the then president vincente fox of mexico and he shared the same vision for our two countries... you know... open borders and super citizen status for illegals... and billion$ of dollar$ sent home to mexico... citizenship for illegals and all that goes along with that vision

Perry in helicopter with Greta (TX-MX border is over 1250 miles)

2007: [excerpt] “If you show up illegally, without your card or you’re here as a criminal element, I’m for throwing the book at those folks, but the issue of people who want to legally, thoughtfully and appropriately come to America to work and help us build our economy — we should quickly come up with a program and an identification card to do that.” [end excerpt] Source

"......When Obama continued to refuse even five minutes for the Governor, Perry took matters into this own hands and was standing on the tarmac at Austin’s airport when President Obama stepped off of Air Force One. Obama looked confused, Perry looked determined. Obama still ignored the pleas for help.

Perry again took matters into his own hands, and established an elite unit of Texas Rangers to bolster border security..." Source

********************

CW: We've been dealt a hand here in Texas (and if you've read my threads you know much of this) where we have a federal government that has not answered the call to protect the 1250 border miles Texas shares with Mexico. Gov. Perry does not believe a fence is the answer to illegals crossing the U.S.-Mexican border. He believes conservative ascendancy will. So we do the best with what we have ($100M/yr of our own state money put up to help secure an international border). We have a lot of crime to combat and pay for because of the illegal activity (drugs, human smuggling and trafficking) generated by an unsecured international border.

We can't refuse to educate or give health care, as everyone in every state is faced with the same situation, but since Perry is a border gov, he's held responsible for illegal aliens, where everyone vents their frustration about the problem using him as a whipping boy (and to make political points and take pot shots). Perry's asked for drones (went to Israel and asked how they protect Gaza Strip), has asked for 3000 people here on the TX border (crickets). Perry has set up an elite Texas Ranger unit to work on the border. Then we find out the Feds have been "running guns" across the border and we've had people killed because of that.

The Texas Dream Act was set up because we have a lot of kids here from the way the feds have allowed this to snowball. Students who have been in Texas for 3 years and graduated from a Texas high school get instate tuition (no benefits -- they pay their way) The entire Texas Senate voted for this in 1991. (The Texas Dream Act does NOT have all the hidden goodies the U.S. Congress "Dream Act" was trying to get into law.)

Perry has said: “If you show up illegally, without your card or you’re here as a criminal element, I’m for throwing the book at those folks, but the issue of people who want to legally, thoughtfully and appropriately come to America to work and help us build our economy — we should quickly come up with a program and an identification card to do that.”

The Texas legislature meets every 2 years for 140 days and the governor is allowed to call Special Sessions. He called a Special Session because he had put "sanctuary cities" on the agenda and the legislature dropped the ball -- but the Senate and then the House left again -- giving Gov. Perry nothing to sign (Texas legislators also have elections they'll be facing and no doubt didn't want a vote on this shadowing their re-election bids).

In this just ended session, after about 3 tries to slip it into a bill, a law that required people to show their birth certificate to get a drivers license got through [The amendment, added by Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, to the education funding bill legislators needed to balance the state budget had originally been included in Senate Bill 9, the so-called "sanctuary cities" bill that failed in the special session. It also had appeared in an omnibus homeland security bill by Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, that died in the regular session......By putting it into law the state potentially undermines an ongoing lawsuit that argues DPS doesn't have authority to check legal status.]. However, the ink on that law was barely dry before it was overturned by a judge – as usual.

In this last Texas Legislative session Gov. Perry signed the Texas Photo ID Voting Law -- it took 6 years to get it through -- Only 6 states have a PHOTO Voter ID requirement.

Texas has a long history with Mexico and being "Mexican" does not mean that you aren't an American, or a Texan. A lot of Texans have Mexican heritage or are married to someone who does. Perry doesn't lead with his chin. He's a thoughtful man.

Rick Perry is as ready to fix this as anyone and understands it probably better than anyone running -- or commenting anonymously on a chat site.

*******************

The 2001 TEXAS Dream Act was passed by 100% of the Texas Senate:

"It’s important to point out that there is a huge difference in the TEXAS Dream Act and the The Dream Act that was pushed in Congress and failed. The Dream Act in Congress was full of all kinds of goodies other than allowing children of illegals to receive in state tuition. The Texas Dream Act was focused only on that. I happen to agree with The Texas Dream Act, and so did everyone in the Senate in Texas. It passed with ZERO “no” votes. Add to that, it has been proven to be successful.

These are a few things you need to know about the [2001] Texas Dream Act. The child has to have lived in Texas the three years leading up to high school graduation. These students are given no special treatment in getting into Texas colleges and universities. They must get in on their own merit. They are paying the tuition (with or without financial aid). It’s estimated that these students make up about 1% of those entering college.

[snip]

Most of us agree that border control MUST be dealt with first. The problem with all other efforts on this issue in the past is that the borders were not sealed. If there is anyone who we can trust to do that it is Gov. Perry (if he decides to run for President). He knows what goes on down at the border. He has gone there many times. He knows what needs to be done. There is no doubt in my mind that if he were President, he would seal our borders. But Perry also understands Hispanic outreach." Source

I agree, Perry would want Palin’s endorsement far more than he needs Rudy's, although Rudy's endorsement would solidify a segment of Republicans wary of a Southern Texas candidate. Palin would solidify another key demographic of the Republican Party.

BobL and many of the other Perry haters are Palin fans.
I'm a Palin fan and a Perry fan. I want to see how this thing plays out because first and foremost I'm a fan of the American Republic and want to see us take our country back from the international muslim marxists who currently occupy it.

I would support either Palin or Perry, and since right now neither is running I support both.

Up until a few days ago I thought Palin was getting ready to endorse Perry for the nomination. Recent events make that seem unlikely, at least for now.

I'm keeping my options open. I like Palin. I like Perry. To a lesser extent, I like Bachmann.

[I will not support Willard the Mitt under any circumstances. I seriously don't think he'll get the nomination but if he does, I will vote 3rd party, or write in Palin's name.]

Gov. Rick Perry's FORMULA:

First! Don't spend all the money!

Second! Have a fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy!

Third! A legal system that doesn't allow for over suing (lawsuit abuse) and make loser pay (no more jackpot justice).

There are many on this board who like Perry, myself included. You can look at the fact that he has been governor of Texas for 10 years to gage what Texans think. He was also the first Republican ever elected to the position of Lt. Governor in Texas. In the last election he wiped the floor with the Democrat and won over 50% in the 3 way primary race against Paulist Debra Medina and Rino insider, Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Pay attention to the Perry detractors who personally attack him. Cincinatuswife actually has good links if you want to really objectivly consider the man. You will hear wild accusations but remember he is an Eagle Scout, ex Air Force captain and C-130 pilot, member of the American Legion and just called for a national day pf prayer and fasting for our nation. He also called for the state to pray for rain to douse the wildfire ravaging west Texas.

Gardasil Cervical Cancer Vaccine/Merck

Reasons for HPV vaccine

CW: Most people do not think like you and the few others who hit every Perry thread trying to elevate this to a "sticking" point.

I'm not a mind reader but it strikes me that Gov. Rick Perry truly believed the HPV vaccine would have helped a lot of Texans who otherwise would not have gotten this protection against cervical cancer (it was to help with 3 strains of the human papilloma virus HPV).

Rick Perry's wife Anita Perry was a nurse for 17 years and still is involved in health care as First Lady of Texas, so I imagine health care is something this governor is more aware of than maybe your "average" governor and understood this to be a vaccine that would combat cervical cancer and cut heath care costs.

Then too Rick Perry grew up hard scrabble with little luxury as many have, yet vaccines traditionally have been made available to all.

Instead of applying the worst motives to Rick Perry, perhaps his critics could consider that his motives were good ones.

Another FReeper had some thoughts on this issue.

However, there are some here on FR who prefer to apply the worst motives to Rick Perry.

The most "vocal" either won't name a candidate they would support; say they would vote for Huntsman or Romney over Perry; say they would rather Obama stay in the White House than vote for Rick Perry.

The HPV vaccine was always Opt-Out. And according to below report had been changed to Opt-In, before being dropped entirely.

90 days after his EO, Gov. Rick Perry let stand legislation undoing the EO.

UPDATE from yesterday -- CW: Perry’s been laying tracks and he’s moving down the line.

Perry can’t seem to make a wrong step.

I swear, the cervical cancer vaccine EO will turn out to show Perry was on the right track.

The TTC has already been shown to be lied about by environmentalists and opportunists to push light rail and block Texas infrastructure. They still have people believing half of Texas was going to be paved over to allow Mexico to invade. They don’t need a road because the federal government won’t secure 1250 miles of Texas’ INTERNATIONAL border with Mexico — and what lies south.

I laugh when they say Perry is lucky. He’s sets goals and works to meet them.

Gov. Rick Perry has prepared himself for this, and now that opportunity knocks, he’s stepping forward.

FReeper comment: You really said that? On a site for conservatives? There are a lot of reasons to like Gov. Perry - but this isn't one of them.

CW: Yes. I said it. There is an increase in oral cancer and a lot of it comes from oral sex the kids are having from the wonderful illustration Hillary Clinton's husband Bill Clinton so casually advertised for the world and children to see, where his sycophants in the media and education lapped it up. So I am not going to say Rick Perry was awful to want to protect women and young girls if it was possible to prevent this cancer (any strains of it - and oral or cervical). There is going to be an explosion of health care costs and this cancer will be among them. His idea to do good was at odds with what was politically correct but the legislature blocked his EO. They're responsible for not having the vaccine available. Was it the right thing to do? Time will tell.

FReeper 2 comment: IIf he stood on principles, we wouldn't have to wait for 'time'. He would know today that it wasn't the right thing to do. I can agree with you about the Clinton's and the impact of the original man-child President, but I don't want the state's (or the nation's) executive making decisions like this. Sorry, not what a conservative would have done.

CW: Perhaps that Gov. Perry let the legislature override his EO — let them make the final call for their constituents (he’d made his decision) was where he took his stand. Perry isn’t king or emperor or dictator. He used the tools he had available and then the people’s representatives used the tools they had.

The vaccine had been “opt-out,” was changed to “opt-in,” the legislature still stopped it, and before it started and now it is not at all. It was never “mandated.”

*************************

”..Ann Hettinger, Concerned Women for America's state director of Texas, was instrumental in convincing Perry to change his proposal to an opt-in provision. When asked if Perry's original plans for the HPV vaccine would be an issue if he were to run for president, [CEO of Concerned Women for America, Penny] Nance replied, “It would've been an issue IF HE HAD NOT FIXED IT.”

Perry, Social Conservatives and the Road to the Top ….."The party has evolved to where he had the ability to be more open about some of his views," says Susan Weddington, a former chairwoman of the Republican Party of Texas. "I think it's the party that's changed some — this is definitely in his political DNA."

"Rick Perry has continued to stand up. I think that's who the man is," says Cathie Adams, who has been a Texas GOP chairwoman, national committeewoman and head of the Texas Eagle Forum.

She, like others in the Perry fold, believes he's been consistently conservative on issues that matter to social and religious conservatives — most of the time. Like others, she says his support for a mandated vaccine against human papillomavirus was off pitch. HPV, which is sexually transmitted, is the leading cause of cervical cancer; Perry wanted to require the shots for all 12-year-old girls in Texas, unless their parents opted out.

"I worked against HPV," Adams says. "I don't think he was ill-intended on that. He could have listened to more voices."

State Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, agrees with that — "where he shot himself in the foot was a couple of sessions ago with that vaccination thing" — but also says Perry's place as the party's standard-bearer is safe.

"I've talked especially with the Tea Party people, " he says. "If you want to say on the correct side of them, you need to stick with Perry."……….

Rick Perry Gets A Grade on Abortion From Texas Pro-Life Groups “The big question in the Republican presidential race is whether or not Texas Gov. Rick Perry will throw his name in the hat for the GOP nomination to face pro-abortion president Barack Obama. If he does, Texas pro-life groups give him high marks.

“Governor Rick Perry has always championed the pro-life cause, tirelessly advocating for the sanctity of innocent human life in numerous ways,” Texas Right to Life executive director Elizabeth Graham tells LifeNews.com.

Governor Perry has worked alongside Texas Right to Life, helping shepherd our pro-life bills and eagerly supporting our measures,” Graham said. “As governor of Texas, he has intervened to stop anti-life legislation on a number of occasions, and he has helped clear obstacles when necessary.” ………….

June 13, 2011: Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted pro-abortion President Barack Obama on pro-life issues "Perry said that, under Obama “our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export......."

”Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation — most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Women’s Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009."

Star Telegram......"Perry's push for the sonogram bill has fortified his long-standing ties to family values and pro-life groups but it has also made him a target from other circles. "We would aggressively work to defeat him [Perry], of course," said Terry O'Neill, president of the National Organization for Women, which describes itself as non-partisan but typically backs Democrats.

Rick Perry has been told to run too do nothing more than to take votes away from Ron paul. Ron Paul would straighten America out in about a week. Perry is a weak act.

The only "act" and I'll add disgrace, are 50% of Ron Paul supporters voting in a GOP Primary.

August Iowa Poll of Likely Caucus goers .........."Just 49% of Paul’s supporters would vote for the Republican nominee if their man does not win the nomination. That’s well below the total for other candidates.

Fifteen percent (15%) of Paul’s supporters would vote for President Obama over another Republican, and 22% would go the third party route. It’s important to remember that part of the congressman’s appeal is from his anti-war position which earns him support from many Democrats."......
