London riots: BBC criticised for branding thugs as 'protesters'

The BBC was criticised for its political correctness last night after continually referring to the yobs rioting across London as “protesters”.

By Tom Whitehead, and Andrew Hough

6:30AM BST 09 Aug 2011

Two days after a peaceful protest over the death of suspected gangster Mark Duggan in Tottenham ended, the corporation was still using the term to describe violent looters.

That was despite the fact that hundreds of youths, with no connection to events in Tottenham, had since run riot across the capital.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, and police have all condemned the youths as “criminals” whose behaviour is “utterly appalling”. Yet senior BBC presenters and reporters on the ground yesterday continued to describe those behind the violence as “protesters”.

The move sparked a wave of anger from members of the public on Twitter.

Duncan Barkes wrote on the micro-blogging website: “Hello BBC. They are not protesters, are they? Rioters better description. I mean, what’s the cause for the protest?”

Wow. You're talking about some angry citizens, there, boy. They are actually willing to TWITTER their anger! Woo, eee!

Them's some hard-hittin', straight-shootin' folks there!

They're going all the way to TWITTER.

I bet the BBC and the political establishment are shaking in their boots.

From the BBC...”Protesters continue to protest all across London. Now, back to our featured report on the threat of Global Warming.”

And they’re not looting - they’re engaged in “violent consumerism”. Per a Tweet from A sky news reporter, quoting a “top cop”.

What else can they do? The government has taken all their weapons.

I was we could parachute some of the liberal "there is no reason for a private citizen to own a gun" whiners into London about now. And let them know we invested their 401K money in an old-established London furniture store last week!

Actually, they are acting very much like Democrats - boy was Ann Coulter on the mark in her latest book! (For those who haven't read it, she exhaustively demonstrates how the behavior of modern American liberals closely follows the classic definition of a mob).

What else can they do? They can organize politically and take their country back, that’s what they can do.

They can use these riots as the beginning of a Declaration of Independence and not just hiding in their closets twittering their twinkies until the coast is clear.

I say they are good progressives/liberals redistributing the wealth and taxing “the rich”. I admire their initiative. Rather than rely on nice politicians in suite to do the dirty work they are rolling up their sleeves and taking care of business themselves. Cutting out the middle man, as they say.
This is left liberalism with the thin veneer of civility ripped off.
Ideas have consequences.

Make a stand for freedom of speech in the UK and end television licenses. Turn the BBC loose.
