Readers of Tuesdays edition of USA Today were treated to an editorial, a rebuttal by National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and a hard news story that, taken all together, make it appear that the newspapers editorial board either doesnt get it about Operation Fast and Furious, or they are feverishly trying to deflect responsibility.
It is not likely Pacific Northwest gun rights activists will buy it, judging from conversations on the Northwest Firearms and WaGuns forums.
In the story, focusing on the most prolific Fast and Furious suspect, Uriel Patino, the newspaper clearly points to the culpability of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for allowing guns into criminal hands:
Now, Patino was back for more. And the ATF, eager for the young suspect to lead them to a bigger fish in the rich trafficking ring, was more than happy to oblige, despite concerns raised by the local gun store. Alarmed by the size of Patino's August request, the dealer, who was cooperating with federal investigators, asked the ATF whether a special order for the weapons should be placed because there were only four in stock."Our guidance is that we would like you to go through with Mr. Patino's request and order the additional firearms," ATF Supervisor David Voth wrote the dealer in an Aug. 25 e-mail.USA Today news report
However, on its editorial page, USA Today promoted a new regulation that takes effect this weekend aimed at gun dealers in four Southwest states: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. This new rule requires them to fill out a new form and report anyone purchasing more than one centerfire semiautomatic sport-utility rifle within a five-day period.

Are they trying to deflect blame?
Do bears do their business in the woods?
The MSM was part of the operation!
Remember all the stories they ran about gun shows and straw buyers and Americans caught sneaking weapons into Mexico? There was a story posted here on FR about some goofball trying to sneak an automatic rifle across to Mexico with the weapon strapped inside the engine compartment. The media provided lots of pictures as proof.

Holder DANCES !!!!!
I was wondering yesterday if congress being out of session for five weeks would give the pressitutues time to spin this as all a big misunderstanding and MAYBE just bad judgement on the part of some low echelon bureaucrats.
We can’t let this cool off.
It’s a melanin thing.
You've got that right... Back in 1989, Time (both the magazine and HBO) ran a story that purported to report on every murder by guns in a 24 hour period. While there were a fair number of murders, Time reported suicides along with them (nearly 50% of the deaths were suicides) and the best example of how biased they were was reporting a man who was shot at (but not hit) who actually died of a heart attack as a gun death.
When Time was deluged with angry letters, they were actually honest: They stated that according to the editorial board, gun control was too important an issue to report fairly, and they were going to push it as hard as they could, facts be damned.

The American people need to draw a line in the sand that the government can't cross. If the Government can get away with using a law enforcement department to knowingly break the law for the purpose of lending credence to their effort to diminish constitutional rights, then we are lost as a nation.
This is far worse that Iran-Contra. It's far far worse than Watergate. It make every other American scandal look petty by comparison.
We need to punish every willing member of this operation so severely that no administration will ever try something like this again.
