Fox News off and then on again at Escondido gym (LA Fitness)

Fox News off and then on again at Escondido gym

Fitness devotee Dianne Lowe's best exercise in recent days may be standing up for what she says is free speech.

The five-year member of the LA Fitness club on El Norte Parkway in Escondido was outraged last week when she went to turn on the right-leaning cable channel while working out and found it wouldn't come in.

Lowe talked to a gym attendant, who she said told her that LA Fitness officials had ordered it shut down.

"They told me, 'We are not allowed to turn on Fox News,' and that was a decision from corporate," Lowe said.

Lowe immediately complained to the club and dashed off a letter to LA Fitness.

An attendant at the Escondido club on Monday morning confirmed that CNN was the only news channel available on its television screens ---- but a check later in the day revealed that Fox News was back.

"It was a satellite issue," the attendant said Monday afternoon, saying the club had changed its provider and had lost the Fox channel for a few days.

There have been similar complaints that Fox News was dropped at other LA Fitness clubs around the country, according to reports on the Internet.

In each case, unnamed LA Fitness representatives also said the absence of the channel was a satellite issue.

Repeated calls and emails Friday and Monday to numerous LA Fitness officials ---- including the media office at the company's headquarters in Irvine ----- went unanswered.

Lowe said Fox is her network of choice because she believes the network provides the most "fair and balanced" coverage, as it routinely proclaims.

"I don't want to go to the gym and have them dictate to me what I can watch," the 62-year-old Lowe said Monday.

Hmmmm ... smells fishy. Smells like corporate bias. Why wouldn't LA Fitness Corporate Offices answer any calls by the reporter if this is just a "satellite issue"?

Seems everywhere I go where there is a TV set in the business CNN is on (which is the only reason I ever see CNN anymore). I had assumed some sort of back-door Payola was going on.

They refused to put Fox on at my LA Fitness too saying it was a corporate decision. I use my one hour workout to watch CNN so I can say to my liberal friends that I am open minded enough to watch CNN even if they’re not open minded enough to watch Fox News. It also gives me daily examples of the CNN bias which I use in arguments with liberals.

I think teh gays might more prefer pmsnbc with their cast of carpet queens and wiener buggers. Plus they get to only hear
the leftspeak that keeps their brains from having to function.

I always ask to see the manager - and ask him if they do equal time with Fox. If no - then tell him I am leaving, and will be back when the propaganda is over.

VERY fun in a MacDonalds, given who is usally working the counters.

I had assumed some sort of back-door Payola was going on.

My guess is intimidation. The left has been trying to silence political desent (only against the left) for years.

Political correctness was designed to silence all opposition to the left wing agenda and it's special interest groups.
Notice who's "protected" and who is not. Name one right wing issue or group that protected by political correctness. Now name one left wing issue or group that isn't!

I just got back from a week in DC and everywhere you go CNN in on, even in the elevator. I was actually surprised that I could get FNC in my hotel room.

my wife says that most americans agree with us—conservatives, but i point out

that a large segment of america are not politically attentive, and when they do look at politics they see the left’s propaganda.

most businesses and doctors and dentists have cnn.

>They refused to put Fox on at my LA Fitness too

That should be the start of “my ex-LA Fitness” plus a refund.
Any business banning the only news station that tells all sides should not get any support and money.

Same thing at my doctor’s office.

They didn’t like it when I complained.

Thankfully, I only have one more appointment there - and at that time I’m going to launch a tirade at my doctor.

Funny thing .. even though CNN is the office choice - people who are waiting are not watching it. Also lately, the TV is off. Maybe I’m not the only one who complained.

Time to take a stand and not allow a business to dictate what you can see or read.

24 hour fitness has 3 TVS in front of my favorite bike. One is always on Fox News, one on CNN and one on ESPN.

Seems like a fair mix to me.

I complained about CNN at an airport, I was told that CNN paid to put the monitors everywhere, so CNN determines what was on the monitor. Clever move on their part if true, but it makes flying that less pleasurable.

I doubt that a fitness club had CNN come in, though- they just don’t like Faux News (bias intentional).

I can’t find the quote (Freeper army maybe can) but when Fox was first starting up, Hillary Clinton complained that ‘now it is harder to get our message out’, odd that ADDING an information stream makes YOURS less audible...

It’s a private business. Don’t like its policies? Find another gym.
