RCMP prepare to visit U.S. as part of polygamy investigation

The Canadian Press

Date: Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011 8:24 PM ET

VANCOUVER — The RCMP is preparing to head to Texas to look for more than two dozen brides from Bountiful, B.C., who were allegedly sent across the border as teens to marry older men, including a polygamous leader now facing a life sentence for sexually assaulting two teenage girls.

The Mounties launched a new criminal investigation into Bountiful earlier this year after a constitutional case examining Canada's anti-polygamy law heard allegations of cross-border marriages in the 1990s and early 2000s.

B.C. Supreme Court heard that more than two dozen girls were sent to the United States to marry older men, while several American girls were married to Canadians.

At least three girls from Bountiful-- two 12-year-olds and a 13-year-old -- were taken to the U.S. by their parents and married to leader Warren Jeffs, according to church records presented in court.

This could be interesting. I've seen articles for years about this child-sex traffic (brides my foot). Maybe now that Texas showed what courage is, others will step up as well.

Haven’t you heard? Anything goes these days. Now that homosexuals can “marry”, look for polgamy and pedophilia to become the next approved alternative lifestyles.

Warren Jeffs trial pinglist--if you want on or off, let me know via freepmail!

Technically, this is not about the trial; it's about the further ramifications. I'll be posting such articles as they arise. If anyone prefers not to receive these additional pings, removal from the list is just a freepmail away!

From way down at the bottom of the article:

Unlike previous investigations involving Bountiful, the RCMP isn't looking into allegations of multiple marriage, said Moskaluk.

"This particular investigation in regards to the movement of child brides from Canada to the U.S. is totally separate from the previous investigation of polygamy," said Moskaluk.

Looks like Texas is showing folks how to get this done!

Only if we let it happen. We must not fall into this defeatist way of thinking. We know what’s right, we need to fight for it.

Jane Velez Mitchell said her staff calls the justice dept. every day and asks when they’re going to raid Jeffs’ Texas compound.

I hope it blows the whole thing wide open and people see what polygamy is all about and put their foot down about it, homosexual marriage notwithstanding.

I think it needs to be done, but I also think that Texas is right to do this carefully, so as to avoid cases being overturned, etc.—I don’t have any inside information, but from where I sit, it appears, at least, that they’re dotting all the “i’s” and crossing all the “t’s.” Back when the first raid occurred, they didn’t have time for that, and it allowed for the kind of circus nonsense that the fLDS with help from the media created.

either one believe in living a moral life, one that has some restraint, or one does not....

if we wink-wink at Hooters and the naked baristas, and pretend it all doesn't matter, than why shouldn't the homos, the pedo's and other perverts enjoy their pursuits?....

Jeffs' grip on polygamous church likely to remain

By JENNIFER DOBNER - Associated Press |

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs, to his followers a prophet who speaks directly with God, is likely to continue to lead his church from behind bars after being sentenced to life in prison on child sex assault charges.

"The vast majority are just not going to leave," Atlanta-based polygamy historian and writer Ken Driggs said. "They've got family ties and marriage ties and a culture deeply rooted in their faith."

Followers of Jeffs' Utah-based Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are likely to still revere him as a prophet, despite evidence presented in the Texas case that he had sex with girls from the sect as young as 12, former church members and experts say. Jeffs, 55, was sentenced by a Texas jury Tuesday and will not be eligible for parole until he is at least 100 years old.

There was no mass exodus in 2007 after Jeffs' conviction on Utah sex assault charges. Most members remained loyal. As he spent almost five years in various jails, Jeffs continued to spiritually direct the faith, counsel followers and lead Sunday services by phone.

(Excert, click here for the rest.)

While I agree with what he says, I've seen Griggs on several interviews, and he's very much in the pocket of the fLDS.

Mafia leaders ruled from prison too. Beth Karas, though, said he's not going to have easy access to the phone anymore. She said he actually had one in his jail cell.

Good photos...
I bet Jeffs hates being bald. He’s been stripped of everything, including his hair.
