Media already had most of their names out in the open.

Unintended (at least I hope they were unintended) consequences. The RATS were so anxious to make sure they could club Bush with the details of all war deaths, they passed a law so the names must be released.

Now, those RATS have blood on their hands if anything happens to the families of any of these brave servicemen - and we can thank them for demoralizing special forces corps. This is the crap that happens when you use the law as a partisan weapon. Thanks Harry and Nancy!

I had heard from one source that these were from the same unit, but none were on the mission that got Bin Laden.

How someone would know that I don’t understand.

the media was putting out stories, complete with details, within 24 hours of the helicopter going down.

i’d like to know how they were able to get the names and put together stories within that time frame... if it wasn’t known ahead of time

24 hrs is not enough time to get that background info, including interviews

Exactly right. Posting names and cities provides a way for those who hate our special ops folks to send a clear message to the remaining active duty men. This puts families at risk.

This is not honor. It’s the worst insult possible.

We really do have an intelligence gap in this nation, and I’m not referring to the government here.

One interesting thing is the ages. Only two young 20s in the group. These were not kids. A lot of irreplaceable experience went down with that chopper. I wonder if most Americans can grasp just how much this nation lost.

Some of us have made it a point to post their names as they are being released. Some of us are there to welcome home warriors, angel flights or regular flights and their interments.

So what's next....

We will read that Obama personally wrote and sent a letter of condolence to each of the families of the men killed.

In another month, we will read that Obama is presenting a Purple Heart to each family....aka photo op.

I hope not. These people need to heal in the arms of each other.

SEALs have a special target on themselves

Especially SEAL Team 6, since biden and obama spiked the football in front of the world using their organization name

In 1989 Iranians attempted to murder (car bomb) the wfe of the Navy Captain of the USS Vincennes that shot down the Iranian airbus, and Oliver North’s family also had a price on their heads

so yeah there is a risk

I guess it is a level of risk small-initial men obama biden and panetta would be willing to take for their own families without secret service protection

Tommy Franks and his family walk around with no protection. What about the Generals always on TV? There is no special protection for them as well. Any terrorist can kill our military members if they want.

I hope you are going to put as much effort, in attending the funeral services for these warriors, if you are close to where they will be held, as you are complaining (legitimately) about the release of their names. It is what it is right now, I would rather have this thread a place where we can post, as FReepers, our thoughts and prayers and appreciation for their ultimate price they paid for all of us. There are many other threads addressing this issue, so please, let’s make this about them right now.

You can't read the ages of these men without knowing & appreciating what their experience, endurance, trials enabled them to accomplish ..........so much lost.

I have so much disrespect for our hate filled, leak prone powers in Washington .....it just breaks my heart.

They are responsible for these deaths!

yes

yes they can

But Tommy Franks didn’t kill the leader of al Qaeda and boast about it all over the world media, did he?

so adding any risk at all is acceptable to you in exchange for releasing names

If there is no risk how come Panetta didn’t routinely release the names of CIA officers killed during missions - aside from the names leaked by the despicable NY Times

Rarely is that brought up.

Iran engaged in a State sponsored act on U.S. soil to kill members of a Naval Captain’s family. That is a straight up casus belli, but nothing was ever done about it.

It is long since time to engage Iran.

Is the “logic” being used the same as the “logic” for selling guns to Mexican drug cartels. That is, “follow the guns and find out where the cartels are located” - a policy that backfired and failed miserably.

Are the names of the families listed so that we can “watch the homes and families of the SEALs” and then “intercept” the bad guys coming to kill them? If so, this plan will work just as well as the administration’s ill-fated “gun selling” policy worked.

Just as Issa is investigating the former policy, perhaps this “policy” also needs to be investigated.

DoD and the CIA have different roles. Besides, the CIA does a good job of releasing their own names.

We can continue the fear mentality or we can honor the names of people sacrificing themselves for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

THIS is NOT the place. We have posted for months about last month, about making it to DC, and protesting the ROAs and our warriors unjustly imprisoned in Leavenworth for killing terrorists while DOJ is freeing terrorists. It did happened, last month, DC Freepers and other conservatives from all over the country showed up in sign of support! What are YOU doing about it? Have you called your senator/congressman? Have you written to your local papers? Have you gathered your friends and family and attended any of the fallen warriors angel flights? Or even a welcome home for a soldier or unit, returning home or coming home for R&R?

Once more, this thread is not about activism.

And incidentally, I agree wholeheartedly with your point .. it's just not right to do it in this particular thread!

Sparky, you can continue the “fear mentality” excuse when your family has even the slightest trace of attraction to an al Qaeda revenge attack!

Grieving people often don’t think clearly, that’s no excuse for the rest of us to cheer them on

At least one public school in Northern VA turned up on a terrorist hit list because many of the kids have military parents at the Pentagon- so don’t think the enemy, who is within us, isn’t watching

Revenge is a dish they enjoy serving...cold or hot

I owe you an apology for post 30. I was conversing on two threads and thought that comment was pertinent on this thread. It wasn’t. I’m sorry I addressed you, dragging you off topic on that point. It wasn’t reasoned. Am am sorry.

What is pertinent is these men’s families being safe. I’m not blaming you for listing their names and cities. That information should not be made public.

If for no other reason than to keep those loon Kansans away from these funerals, it would be best for the government not to release this information.

FReepers can deal with the loss of these men in any way they wish, without input from you.

If you wish to showcase your emotionally superior position, perhaps you could write a letter to the editor of your local county fishwrapper. Not here.

So, you are a state contact for a national "Conservative" organization? And you just discovered Free Republic? That is a real disconnect.

You and your family’s lives are of no concern to this regime.

The regime is not letting this crisis go to waste, by using the opportunity to help lift the vail of secrecy surrounding Seal Team 6 and its exploits. Like shelling a beach before an invasion, they are "softening things up" for the release of the Bin Laden killing documentary movie to be released 3 weeks prior to the 2012 elections... There won't be any military sacred cows left by that time. God Help us all and our brave warriors and their families.

Very odd poster ...... for one thing, the compositor could have checked the spelling of "remembrance", and for another, who cares who Jason Castro is? Or Melanie Morgan? And why would "an American Idol contestant" be an appropriate person to help lead a rally commemorating 9/11? Very, very odd.

It looks like a bus poster advertising a dog-and-pony act at the MGM Grand in Vegas. "I'll be here all week, try the lamb, it's delicious." It looks nothing like a call to a solemn event. It looks, to resurrect a phrase, "so completely 9/10".
