A roadside bomb killed five American troops in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the U.S. military said, less than a week after American forces suffered their worst single loss of the Afghan war when Taliban insurgents shot down a helicopter.

What are we trying to accomplish in Afghanistan? Does anyone know?

Good question. Why weren't conservatives asking that exact same question when George W. Bush was in the White House and the war in Afghanistan exceeded the duration of the U.S. involvement in the two World Wars combined?

Many of them were. There is no goal or mission there. It’s a mess and getting worse.

As I understand it we are trying to establish in Afghanistan a government as good as that in Detroit or in Chicago.

For this we have given over 1,600 dead Americans and over 13,000 wounded. Also, we have spent a lot of money, but since 40 percent of it was borrowed from China, I guess that doesn’t count.

“five American troops”

This is something that has gotten on my nerves for years. They should employ the term soldiers. The proper use of the word troops should be to refer to larger groups. In my opinion, the media has been doing this deliberately to inflate the size of our military commitments.

Your observation is irrelevant. The Afghanistan situation is unrelated to any of those you mentioned. And for the record we still occupy Germany Italy and Japan We have major forces in Korea still. We also have forces in Iraq

The battle is against radical Islam and the battlefield of choice by both sides is Afghanistan.

There are people on this forum who have become liberal pacifists just like they did in the early 70’s. Pacifism kills.

At this point, I think we're trying to find a path to a dignified exit as opposed to fleeing with our tails between our legs as the Soviets did.

Sorry there bud but I have three (3) sons that have been in this conflict so pacifist I am not. But when your enemy points an RPG at you and you can’t shoot them - there is something very wrong.

This is such bull$HIT! Pull our troops out now and bomb the Taliban strong holds back into the stone age. Our Lib media will sugar coat this to protect the Kenyan King. Sickening!

Make more sense to shift special ops against the CPUSA and their comrades in Congress and the press.

Afghanistan needs a final solution.

LOL -- you must be kidding.

Unlike the situation in Afghanistan, the U.S. laid waste to the Axis powers in World War II and reduced much of their landscape to rubble before occupying them. That's why you didn't have this kind of sh!t going on nearly ten 'effing years after the war against those nations started.

The battle is against radical Islam and the battlefield of choice by both sides is Afghanistan.

The radical Muslims in the royal family of Saudi Arabia -- who continue to rule with the support and protection of the United States government -- thanks you for fixing your gaze on that 6th Century sh!t-hole known as Afghanistan.

I'm ready for our troops to come home, without a doubt.

But, if you're gonna ask the question above, then why aren't you asking why King George III raised taxes on tea in the colonies?

I mean, if you're gonna to live in the past...

A bit late for that.

I am disgusted with both the war in Iraq as well as in Afghanistan. President GW (Doofus) Bush had good intentions with utilizing the Afghan warlords in 2002 & 3 to oust the Taliban.... mission accomplished in 2003 and he should have immediately pulled out rather than getting sucked into a quaqmire as it currently stands. But he was too stupid to realize this. Now we have a commie pig muzlim in the WH who is remaining in both wars, because he can then continue to bash Bush for this AND to keep spending money, his favorite pasttime after killing & aborting babies and trying to play his shitty pathetic game of golf.

Re. Iraq, again Pres GW (Doofus) Bush rightly got into Iraq in 2003 to squash Barack Hussein (oops I meant Saddam Hussein), and eliminate his propensity for biological & chemical warfare plus his suppport of Al Queda. Once Saddam was found & arrested and then executed, Bush should have immediately pulled the plug and vacated Iraq asap. Instead the dumb ass kept us over there and allowed the dems to hammer the Repubs in 2004-06 and thereby get control of the House with Nazi Pelosi as speaker. And then to hammer the Repubs even more in 2008 and thereby sweep the commie pig 0dumb0 into his coup d'tat as well as the demoRATs gaining control of the Senate. Thank you Doofus Dumb Ass Bush. And now we have 0dbumb0 continuing the Iraq engagement because it gives him the opportunity again to bash Bush and to spend money like crazy.

The travesty now is that we are continuing to spend hundreds of billions of dollars in two muzzlim cesspools AND our troops are being shot, killed, maimed & persecuted by JAG for politically correct kangaroo trials in which our soldiers are increasingly being arrested & tried & convicted for trumped up ridiculous charges.

But the greatest travesty of all is that our soldiers are being shot, maimed & killed on behalf of that commie pig RAT bastard sonofabitch 0dumb0. I wish every US soldier would refuse orders to go into battle until 0dumb0 resigns from office. What a RAT bastard commie pig. I am calling for the U.S. military to refuse any orders from 0dumb0, other than to immediately vacate & leave Iraq & Afghanistan. WTF are we still doing there, now on behalf of 0dumb0???

I always thought the idea was to cripple Al Qaeda and kill OBL.

Well, Barry spiked the football for a month after the Seals got OBL, and he is still using it as campaign fodder.

Does our President even know that we still have troops in Afghanistan?

There is nothing liberal or pacifist about wanting to actually win the war we are fighting.

Our troops have their hands tied behind their backs with the current ROE.

If we don't have a actual objective other than helping a bunch of goat herders. We need to move on.
