Senate Democrats are charging taxpayers for a trip to Hawaii, The Daily Caller has learned. The entire press staff of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee is in Maui, even though a field hearing there wont happen until next Wednesday.
The committees oversight field hearing, scheduled for next Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel, will focus on Strengthening Self-Sufficiency: Overcoming Barriers to Economic Development in Native Communities.
Rick Manning from Americans for Limited Government, which first discovered the hearing, told TheDC its unbelievable that Hill staffers talking about fiscal responsibility would waste money on a trip to Maui.
Its outrageous that Senate Democrats have so little respect for the American taxpayer that in the same month they buried our credit rating, theyre heading to Hawaii to celebrate, Manning said.
A committee staffer told TheDC that the reason the hearing will be in Maui is mostly because its his [committee chairman Sen. Daniel Akakas] home state. Its unclear if the field hearing will focus on any issues relating at all to Hawaii, or if the reasoning for scheduling the trip there is only because Akaka will already be in Hawaii during the congressional recess.
The staffer said Akaka is the only senator who will attend.
The Democratic committee staffers used taxpayer funding to travel to Hawaii a full week before their committees hearing date. When TheDC called the committees Washington, D.C., office Thursday afternoon, a different staffer who answered the phone said all the committees communications staffers are already in Maui.
Its unclear if other committee employees, in addition to communications staff, are also in Maui.
Its standard practice for taxpayers to cover travel expenses for congressional committee staffers, but theres no way to know at this point how much the trip will cost, unless staffers offer up the information.
Committee staff declined to answer specific questions about why the field hearing was scheduled in Maui, nor would they say how many of their colleagues were there, on their way there, or scheduled to travel there.
"How To Rob the Taxpayers While Committing Government Employment"
Detestable .. every last one!
Well, just like Barry & Michelle, they deserve a taxpayer-paid vacation for all the good work they’ve been doing!
Harry Reid didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn the night before he permitted this to occur..
No Fear, peasants.
Note to next Republican Chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee: Schedule week-long field hearing for press staff in Anadarko, Oklahoma at the Holiday Inn. Provide projector to show slides of beach scenes on the walls of the conference room.
No early departures. Cash bar poolside.
If the story has it right, no senator but Hawaii’s own Akaka will be there, as well as an unstated number of press “staffers.” Dingy Harry will be nowhere in sight. “Indian affairs” broadly would cover aboriginal inhabitants of the Hawaiian islands, so this is probably as economical as junkets get. I’d be far more concerned about what kind of pseudo romantic mango sauce gets churned out of this meeting resulting in more sops to these “Indians” that won’t hardly do them a whit of good anyhow.
Dingy Harry’s the CEO of the Senate, the Senate Majority Leader. And I guess they have to get out there a week before next week’s hearing........................../S !
Hell Folks...we know where they are at...time for some go-rilla FUN!
But he’s also a Senator — nobody died and made him king, at least not yet. Just taking the story literally. It would be wrong to say that Akaka will be the sole senator there if Dingy Harry tags along.
Gosh, you’d think they would wait until winter for such a trip so they can take maximum advantage of Hawaii’s wonderful climate.
Of course, maybe they are planning a similar trip for February.
The tax slaves will just have to work more over time. The democrat politicians, as well as their base, have been found wanting.
Another bit of DemoRAT abuse for the memory banks. Pass it on to others as I did. This sort of DemoRAT antic has to be known about by as many American voters as possible to reach.
Every little detail helps against the RATS.
