Proposed rule on farms called ‘absurd’

A new rule being proposed by the federal Department of Transportation would require farmers to get commercial drivers licenses.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which is a part of DOT, wants to adopt standards that would reclassify all farm vehicles and implements as Commercial Motor Vehicles, officials said. Likewise, the proposal, if adopted, would require all farmers and everyone on the farm who operates any of the equipment to obtain a CDL, they added.

The proposed rule change would mean that anyone who drives a tractor or operates any piece of motorized farming equipment would be required to pass the same tests and complete the same detailed forms and logs required of semi-tractor trailer drivers.

Drivers would keep logs of information including hours worked and miles traveled. Vehicles would be required to display DOT numbers. A CDL in Virginia costs $64 for eight years, or $8 per year, not including the cost of an instructional class and the written test.

If the DOT reclassifies farm vehicles and implements as commercial vehicles, the federal government will have regulatory control over the nation’s farm workers, estimated at over 800,000, by requiring them to have commercial drivers licenses.

Time for background checks on lawmakers. They should be bonded to pay damages that they do. We are being overrun by the micromanages that are making others jump through their hoops. Conflict of intrest and lies are their ethics.

Congress or the president creates a department/agency, department/agency runs amok creating massive and bizarre legislation that takes freedom and prosperity away piecemeal in accordance to special interest groups that control the process.

This whole system is corrupt and needs to be dismantled.

I asked my son who lives in Indiana about this the other day. He and his brother-in-law farm about 700 acres. He said the same thing. That driver’s licenses are under state authority and Indiana which is nothing more than 200/mi x 300/mi of farmland would never adopt such a crazy thing. The state doesn’t have autority on your land. And besides, it’s really dumb. They don’t drive this equipment on roads anymore to move it around. They run it up on trailers and zip they’re gone with it.

It’s just another tax grab and it’s all about control. They are trying to get control of what goes on on your private land.

The CDL requirement was for driving on public roads, not on your own property.

Still it’s a very dumb and typical government rule.

The good news is that they have nixed the rule now.

A farmer needs a CDL to plow his field BUT a Mexican can drive an 18 wheeler anywhere he wants with just a Mexican
DL.

Must be that too many families are still holding on and working the old farm instead of selling out to developers and agricorps.

Like most Federal bureaucrats, they need to create work for themselves.

stupid bureaucrats?

Overpaid, lard ass, affirmative action, porn surfing, Federal employees trying desperately to justify getting paychecks. Trying to look busy and useful. Total idiots that need to be fired. 50% of the Federal workforce is unneeded and gumming up the works. For starters fire everyone at EEOC, EPA, Department of Education. These places are all Obama voters. The permanent bureaucracy of leeches.

LOL, an executive order only applies to federal employees. No one else, Obummer would like to change that as would many of the former presidents, but so far it has not happened.

Maybe we should insist that candidates pass the same test as legal immigrants face. If they don’t pass then they get deported. Joe Biden would fail for sure.
