Obama considers Republican for one of two seats on Fed
By Neil Irwin, Published: August 12

President Obama is considering nominating two economists with backgrounds in finance — one of them a Republican — as Federal Reserve governors, according to a source familiar with the decision making.

The White House is looking at Jeremy Stein, a Harvard economist, and Richard Clarida, of Columbia University and the bond investment firm Pimco, to fill two vacant slots on the seven-member Fed Board of Governors. Clarida served in George W. Bush’s Treasury Department as an assistant secretary. Stein did a brief stint at Treasury under Obama.

The strategy of pairing a Democrat and a Republican for the two vacancies would be aimed at improving the odds of Senate confirmation. The president last year nominated MIT economist Peter Diamond, who won the Nobel Prize for economics while awaiting confirmation, but he was blocked by Republican senators.

He may have an R by his name. But anyone concerned about the fed NOT continuing to monetize the federal deficit and keep ZIRP will not be nominated.

Some of the worst supreme court justices we have ever had were supposedly Republicans.

“Needs someone ELSE to blame?”

Yup. Keating Five. On the wreckage of this country there may be Nuremburg type trials of today’s actors. Obama is about “spreading the blame around” as much as he is about “spreading the wealth around”.

Isn't Stein the guy who, during the Clinton impeachment hearings, claimed he lied to his own diary?

He typifies the weak, worthless, give up wing of the GOP during the 80's. The only other guy that gets me pissed off as much as he does is Bob Michel. That dude was a genuine POS.

Can you imagine what we could have done if these idiots had a spine in the 80's? No Dept of Ed. for one.

Oh wait.. My bad.

The Clinton treasury guy who perjured himself at the Clinton hearings when he claimed that he had lied to his own diary was Josh Steiner, not Jeremy Stein. However, Josh Steiner did serve as an adviser on economic policy to the Ubama administration in 2008 during Ubama’s transition. So maybe Josh Steiner will get the next appointment. Whatever. He’s the perfect Ubama Democrat - - a slimeball and a liar.

Yeah, Rush nailed Bob Michel long ago. Michel was the kind of loser who spent all those years as “Minority Leader” waiting eagerly under the table for whatever scraps the rats would throw him. Thank God Gingrich came along.

I remember those days. It was like the guy didn’t exist in the process. Unfortunately, I see the same attributes in Boner. Thank God for the Tea Party folks that care. Paul Jr., DeMint, Rubio, Toomey, Bachmann, West, Ryan, King, King, Chaffetz, Et Al.

“Yea they the Media kept saying that Paulson was a Republican!”

A republican. Na, he is a Goldman Sacks. He is one world governance. He is no friend of the free market. Paulson and person like him should be tared and feathered.

My advice to anyone Obama wants to nominate?

It's a three-letter-word (really, not like Biden's) spelled...

R-U-N.
