San Antonians plan D.C. trip for immigration 'grito,' march

San Antonio activists will be among protesters in front of the Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 15 for a national Grito de Dolores.

Instead of marking Mexican independence, however, they will call for immigrant human rights in the face of state-led initiatives they view as draconian and discriminatory.

Co-organizer Jaime Martinez, head of the César E. Chávez Legacy and Educational Foundation in San Antonio, said the march, led by a group called Viva El Pueblo Latino, will advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, family unification and passage of the DREAM Act.

As Mexican President Felipe Calderón delivers the traditional Grito de Dolores in Mexico City at midnight Sept. 15, marchers in Washington will showcase Viva El Pueblo Latino's human rights agenda, founder Dr. Eduardo Ibarra said.

The advocates want comprehensive immigration reform, family unification and passage of the DREAM Act. Texas already gives illegals in-state tuition and they are receiving financial aid. Once students in Texas complete college, after college, the illegals cannot get jobs resulting from no legal docments.Another concern is colleges and universities make students sign an affidavit indicating an intent to apply for permanent resident status as soon as they are able to do so.

When students do sign that said affidavit indicating an intent to apply for permanent resident, signing that affidavit is meaningless nobody is ever going to follow up on this.Yeah Right, family unification,Cities throughout America facing budget cuts, and this group wants to bring in millions more into the U.S. and they are not at all concern with how all this is going to be paid for ? Do we not already have enough people in the unemployment lines across America ?

Jaime was once Chief Steward of local union at a refrigeration company. I worked for them and he once called me Hitler for making sure that members worked instead of goofing off. I called the guard and had his sorry @$$ removed from the department. It embarrassed the cr@p out of him and he never f***ed with me again.

Typical union $h!the@d.

What part of "ILLEGAL" do they not understand, or maybe they can not understand English.

September 17 is the Day of Rage in D.C. Coincidence? I think not.

Joseph Overton's window theory comes to mind. In simplest terms its incrementalism. We keep ceding a little ground and we one day find ourselves backed into a corner with no hope of escape.

Scroll down the page for an interactive demonstration of Overton's window.

I agree....I think that like a snake that it cornered..this is all coming to a conflict that will not end well. They are like children that don't like the word "NO"

Rick Perry’s version of the DREAM Act doesn’t suit them. This is what happens when you cozy up to a demographic of blood suckers for political gain, Rick just as Bush did in 2000/2004 and McCain in 2008. That’s not conservative leadership. That’s hispandering.

I hope they do this “grito” three weeks before the 2012 election. :>D

Another thing, why is it that illegals are getting government benefits? How did all of these tough-minded Texans let this happen right under their noses?

James Madison recognized this so many years ago:

“Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.” - James Madison - 1788

give someone an inch and they’ll take a mile (if you agree to part of what someone wants they will get all of what they want)

César E. Chávez Legacy and Educational Foundation in San Antonio

César Chávez was not a fan of illegal immigrants.

In 1973, the United Farm Workers set up a "wet line" along the United States-Mexico border to prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the United States illegally and potentially undermining the UFW's unionization efforts

One of my favorite Madison quotes. He didn’t even need a crystal ball to see the future.

Madison has become one of my favorite founders in recent years due to our current business climate.

What prudent merchant will hazard his fortunes in any new branch of commerce when he knows not that his plans may be rendered unlawful before they can be executed?

"Co-organizer Jaime Martinez, head of the César E. Chávez Legacy and Educational Foundation..."

Interesting story. Not only is Martinez a fraud and a poltroon, but this "Legacy and Educational Foundation" is a crock, too. People forget that Cesar Chavez worked to get illegals deported, because illegals depress the wage scale for the lowest-paid workers in America.

Any doubters out there? You could look it up.

I used to work for the United Farm Workers. Yes. And I witnessed its rapid decline from a genuine and needed up-from-slavery type movement, to what it is now: a front for left-wing lobbying (abortion, gays, illegal immigrants, name it: and name your price) plus personal income-enhancement for Cesar Chavez' children and grandchildren and chosen lackeys like Jaime Martinez.

Link, with more links.

Read it and --- well, you don't know whether to weep, or to smash something,

Thanks, that is indeed and interesting story.

And activists got dolores street changed to ‘Cesar Chavez Blvd’. I think, against the will of the people of San antonio.

I think city hall in SA is run by extreme left-wingers and gay activists.

If Madison were alive today, he would have to once again summize that liberty is a fragile and fleeting condition that requires constant vigilance over. Tryanny has come full circle from his time to now.
