AUSTIN, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) – Texas Governor Rick Perry on Thursday said that Arizona’s immigration law would not be appropriatre for his state, saying the focus must remain on border security. Texas has a long history with Mexico and shares the longest border with the country of all U.S. states - more than 1,200 miles. Both have had many encounters through history including an historic armed conflict which led to the Mexican-American War in 1846. “As the debate on immigration reform intensifies, the focus must remain on border security and the federal government’s failure to adequately protect our borders. Securing our border is a federal responsibility, but it is a Texas problem, and it must be addressed before comprehensive immigration reform is discussed,” Perry said.

It’s a federal crime if the bank is FDIC insured.

Bank robbery is a federal crime, since the many bank jobs of the 1930s...if noone is hurt in the bank robbery then the feds usually let locals/state prosecute.

This story is from April of 2010. It’s hardly “News.”

All the more telling.

I think this is brought out to inform the electorate on the candidates’ record.

And it’s posted under “politics/elections,” so it’s valid.

But don’t you know, you CAN’T do that with Perry!!! It’s not fair!!! Anything he’s said or done outside the past two weeks is irrelevant!!!

The real Rick Perry reveals himself to those who do their homework. His real name’s not even Rick or Richard. It’s James. And he’s not a conservative, unless you think Bill Clinton was a conservative. Open-borders progressive, and bought-off bag man for corporate welfare schemes that have looted Texas coffers of billions over the past decade.

Sleazier than McCain, IMHO. And that’s saying something, because I absolutely abhor McCain.

Well put, CJ. I have a feeling now that Perry has announced, his ‘conservative’ credentials won’t survive the scrutiny they are sure to get. The information is out there and each and every one of his opponents is sure to make the most of it. We need to keep this poser as far from the White House as possible and let him fall to the wayside with Romney where he surely belongs.

If you're going to comment and criticize based on this statement, part of the end of a long, frank speech that included criticism of Mexico policy, at least copy and paste the entire statement from that speech:

“President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexico’s citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity.
