Ruth Madoff Dumping Bernie (SHE FINALLY CUTS IT OFF AFTER 52 YEARS TO RECONCILE WITH LAST SON)

After 52 years of marriage, crook Bernard Madoff's wife is finally calling it quits. Ruth Madoff, 70, hasn't seen her 73-year-old hubby for more than 8 months, reports the Daily Mail. She's cutting ties with Madoff in an effort to reconcile with her remaining son, Andrew, and her dead son's family, say sources. Her son Mark committed suicide late last year on the second anniversary of his dad's arrest for massive fraud, and Ruth was turned away from his memorial by his distraught widow.

"Ruth has not seen Bernie since Mark's suicide, and I think the remnants of the family will now pull together," said Madoff biographer Diana Hentriques. "Ruth visiting him in prison was a major impediment to her being reconciled with them." The two married in 1959.

Conjugal visits.

I’m sure Bernie can stand at attention at least once a month.

I think it was Diana Hentriques that I heard on Dennis Prager’s show a few months back. It seems like it was a replay of an interview of her from a previous show. Her biography of Madoff sounded very interesting. She described Ruth in a sympathetic light and said she had been completely devoted to her husband her whole life since they had met in highschool.

Put frankly, I hope this stands as a lesson that women who marry (or get involved with) wealthy men, that they had better know exactly where their husband’s money is coming from to pay for their lavish lifestyle. It happened to Anne Hathaway, plus other countless women (and sometimes men) who take people because they have a large bank account, but there is no clear cut knowledge of where the money is coming from. This woman enjoyed his money during his prosperity, but frankly put, she was right to have been turned away by her son’s widow at his funeral. I cannot imagine what it did to her son to have his father so disgraced and then stripped of everything and then sent to prison.

The Madoff sons can’t possibly be so stupid. They were at least half in on father Bernie’s Ponzi scams. The only way they have escaped prison so far is they and Bernie’s wife have helped uncover the money trail so restitution can be made. IMHO.

My understanding is that half of Madoff's money has been recovered. Given the crazy economic times we live in, and given that his entire operation was suddenly and forcibly shutdown, I am not surprised that he suffered a 50% loss.

The government told me he was a crook -- but sometimes my government lies to me. I suspect that Madoff was a lot more legitimate than the government wants us to believe.

There’s no doubt in my mind that she knew where the money was coming from. She should be in jail.

Madoff turned himself in and admitted in open court that he was a fraud. It's not as if he or others are protesting his innocence and making any arguments to dispute the established facts. It's not very complicated.

And nowhere near half the money has been recovered.

Money has been clawed back from investors who had knowledge of the scam - they basically agreed to try to make the innocent investors whole in exchange for not being prosecuted themselves. And there still isn't enough to make them whole.

They married in 1959. I doubt he had any money then.

I am not a lawyer, and can not find a clear source for support, but I thought Federal prison terms did not provide for nonsense like conjugal visits, parole, probation, time off for good behavior, etc.

If my understanding is correct, the only sex Bernie will be having is the “prison bitch” kind.

Despite Madoff’s offenses, I think the loyalty of a wife was understandable.

Thank you for some common sense..Madoff's DAUGHTER was the firm's COMPLIANCE officer, fer pete's sake.

Madoff cut a deal allowing Ruth to keep over $ 2 million. And the case against the son who killed himself is moot..therefore his widow got to keep millions..so, everyone benefits...

Bernie took the rap for his entire family. No sons, daughter or wife was prosecuted but they all knew and some were in on the scam. They all lived like kings and got millions out of the ponzi scheme. Some of that money has been clawed back I suppose but they still have millions

The son who committee suicide...because thecase "went away"..ALL the money he "earned", his family was allowed to keep, and over $ 50 million in "loans" he took from the firm also "went away"..not clawed back..

Since the widow, (Ruth's daughter in law) is now very wealthy, there's nothing to prevent her from using that wealth fro Ruth's benefit and lifestyle.

One other thought. Anyone of Bernie's position and wealth would probably have a coniderable amout of life insurance...mainly for liduidity and estate planning reasons. I wonder who're the beneficiaries, and if they thought he wouldn't last 6 moths in prision..

One of the news accounts of the son’s suicide indicated he was despondent b/c he couldn’t get a job.

The family took millions out of the scheme——but they lived a high lifestyle-—several homes, and credit cards in constant motion.

Ruth’s shopping is legendary——$3M in personal spending on one American Express card alone.

She’s described as a shopaholic who, days after Bernie’s arrest, seemed to have just one concern: whether a $4,000 garment she’d bought in Palm Beach had been altered and shipped.

Bernie also loved to shop—he collected pricey antique watches. He bought $1000 sport coats in a Palm Beach clothing store.
