Doubt it. If the government is funding your health, you'll be put on food rations to keep your weight down.
Tell me again why its a waste of my time to try to live to be 90. I dare ya to try! You can convince yourself you are doing the right thing by being a lazy fat slob, but you will never convince me to be like you. You dam lazy fat slob.
I would never try to tell you not to attempt to live to 90. If that's you goal, then by all means go for it and best of luck too you. All I was saying, is because longevity is you top priority doesn't mean it's everybodies top priority. Many prefer to smoke, eat what they want etc. knowing full well that they are probably cutting years off their lives, and they are fine with that. My father was one of those, he smoked three packs a day, ate what he wanted, was diagnosed with type II diabetes at age 65 and STILL ate what he wanted, was told he had to have bypass surgery, refused and died about six months later of a massive heart attack at age 72. He wasn't stupid, he had been a officer in the military during WW II and was one of the first group of graduates to get a degree in Computer Science. He had just decided at some point that he wasn't interested in possibly extending his lifespan by giving up certain vices. It was his decision and we respected it, and quite frankly we were surprised he made it to age 72.
And if you don't have grandkids, go to Vegas and have a blast!!!!
I've been lucky, but wife unit has the same problem. I've told her that she has to burn more calories than she takes in. Well, the last thing she does at night is eat a bowl of ice cream and goes to bed.
Dining with a midget will make you over eat? The things that they will study! I bet it was government funded...
Sorry, couldn't resist. I assume you meant "smaller fork"
Seriously, how many people know someone who is obese who is physically active and eats fruits and vegetables?
Right here, sir.
10 pounds is the difference between having control of my diabetes and not.
“If a man denies himself strong drink, fine cigars and loose women he won’t live forever but it’ll sure feel like it! “
Depends. If I can be like Louie Zamperini when I’m in my 90’s, I’ll take it.
Zamperini is the subject of the book “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand, the writer of “Seabiscuit”. He was a distance runner in the 1936 Berlin Olympics (met Hitler personally). He then fought in the Pacific theater in WW2. He survived a crash landing in the ocean and was adrift at sea for 50 days, battling sharks, starvation, dehydration and an attack from a Japanese fighter plane. He ended up spending two years in the horrible Japanese POW camps, where he endured daily beatings, more starvation and dysentery.
He returned home after the war and fell into alcoholism. He ended up at a Billy Graham rally in order to keep his wife from divorcing him, and was ultimately converted. He has since forgiven his torturers personally, carried the Olympic torch thru the town in which he was imprisoned, and spent his life leading others to Christ.
I had the pleasure of seeing him speak live at Greg Laurie’s Harvest Crusade last night in Anaheim, CA. It was amazing. He is amazing.
If you haven’t read the book “Unbroken”, I strongly recommend it. It is truly life changing.
Yes. Remember Obama’s speech where he said, if you have heart disease, maybe instead of, say, bypass surgery, you should take an aspirin?
This is what we have to look forward to: A government agency or commission made up of political lackeys with no medical education or experience who will dictate health care to us.
And if you are looking for, e.g., a cure for cancer, you can forget about it. All the research into effective treatments and maybe even a cure will come to a standstill. Instead, we’ll get bovine excrement like this study.
Good. Let it be good for someone else instead of me.
I've been fat before and I absolutely hated it. I felt and looked like hell.
Great news. I'll have to go out tonight to an Italian restaurant and get gooder ;-)
True to an extent. The day I need to enter a nursing home is the day I want to die peacefully in my sleep. However, I'd much rather have that day come when I'm 85 or 90 then when I'm 70. So I'm going to take care of myself the best I can in the meantime while still eating and drinking pretty much anything I want.
Exercise is important. When I was turning 40, I was one of those "allergic to exercise" kind of people. I had ballooned to over 300 pounds and felt lousy most of the time. Just climbing a flight of stairs would get me to huffing and puffing and I'd get dizzy.
So I got a dog and started walking several times a day, working my way up to 6-10 miles daily. Definitely four miles in the morning (full hour and 15 minutes) and whatever I can squeeze in after that. Lost a ton of weight and have enough energy to dash up several flights of stairs without losing breath. Still get to have my steak and beer too.
A little harsh don’t you think?
LOL!!! Love the shirt.
When I was deployed to Kuwait, I lost 24 pounds in 4 months. I didn’t change my eating habits other than the DFAC food isn’t as tasty as what I cook. Here’s what I did to lose those 24 pounds.
I didn’t drink alcoholic beverages. Well duh, it’s freaking Kuwait. I drank LOTS of water, probably something like 1/2 gallon a day. I ran 2 miles 3 times a week at a ridiculously slow pace. Airborne shuffle for you veterans would describe it. If I had been on day shift instead of nights I probably would have lost 35 pounds because I would have done PT 7 days a week and 2 of those days would have included weight training.
To summarize my experience, radical diets are unnecessary, simply doing cardio 3 times a week and cutting out candy and/or alcoholic beverages will keep you fairly healthy.
We are going to find out being skinny doesn’t make any difference at all. There is a healthy weight which has nothing to do with the current weight charts. More junk science.
Pray for America
