Bachmann-Perry Overdrive
Wall Street Journal ^ | 8-15-2011 | Editors

Posted on 08/15/2011 4:21:33 PM PDT by CA Conservative

The fight for the Republican Presidential nomination is finally getting underway in earnest, with Texas Governor Rick Perry bull-riding his way into the race and Michele Bachmann winning Saturday's straw poll in Iowa. Both events show how unsettled the GOP contest still is, as voters search for a candidate who can beat a vulnerable President Obama.

Mrs. Bachmann, the Minnesota Congresswoman, has emerged from cable-TV land in recent months to be a viable competitor. She is telegenic, a hard worker, and has planted herself at the front of the tea party parade in hostility to all things Washington. This posture matches the current public mood and helps to explain why she surpassed fellow Minnesotan Tim Pawlenty, who dropped out of the race yesterday despite a far better record of accomplishment as a fiscally conservative two-term Governor of a left-leaning state. Mrs. Bachmann is a canny politician.

Palin/Bachmann is the only way she sees a national ticket. Perry wouldn’t be at the bottom of a ticket and neither would Palin. Palin/Perry is too alliterative. Heh heh heh..’ol Rick isn’t going to be VP to a Gal. No way. And Palin is announcing after Labor day. Palin Bachmann would work for me.

Hmmmm, a Bachmann/Perry ticket?! Possibilities indeed. Both very popular among Republicans with Bachmann leading head-n-shoulders among conservatives.

Go ahead Perrybots, I have my flame retardant suit on, LMAO.

I would have those those at WSJ would understand the dynamics of the Iowa Straw Poll and that it has little real significance as it’s paid supporters. And that the only thing it does is bring the candidates to the state for meet ‘n greets.

Beckels rampant drug and hooker use in the 80’s and 90’s has destroyed his mind. You cannot be right wing enough in this political environment.

What is your take on that?

They will try to paint Perry as being a far right winger but he is far from that, IMO.

Heh heh, you failed to qualify your statement that this is only in your opinion. I don't happen to share it though. As the drip-drip-drip continues on Rick Perry's past continue to leak out we'll see just how long he lasts. There's a quite a few skeletons in that closet, IMHO. Cheers. Dang, I just love this primary vetting process.

LOL. That is really ripe and Beckel is one of the few who could actually tell that lie with a somber straight face. Imagine that, Perry a right winger. Ooooops, make that a FAR right winger, sorry.

I like Bachmann, but she simply cannot win. She is Palin lite, and I mean VERY lite. Palin herself cannot win, they’ve successfully “Quayled” her. The only way Palin wins is if only Freepers are allowed to vote.

I think Perry destroys Romney in the primary and we see a Perry/McDonnell ticket crush Obama/Biden in a landslide.

Oh, snap...

I watched something on PBS.... Frontline Road to the White House ... IIRC.

Obama met with Daschle and said that maybe he didn’t have enough of a record to run and toxic Tom told him that he should run BEFORE he had a record to defend.

The libs know he’s a libby libber. They don’t value “experience.”

To put MB’s Iowa Straw win in shocking perspective, the number 2 was ol “never win space cadet” ronpaul. So much for Saturday meaning anything special or boosting Bachmann to the nomination.

It's amazing how many FReepers opposed the idea of a Dream Act when Harry Reid proposed til but they will defend it with their last breath when Slick Rick does it.

Mr. Dream Act, open borders Perry is a no go from the start.

My point as well, what private sector job has Perry ever held since leaving home/school? Hmmmm? We want another professional politician who hasn't a clue as how the other side lives? Go ahead, you take him. I just want someone who has an inkling of what it takes to make this country actually work and I don't mean burger flipping down at the local McD's or cleaning someones elses home.

Wishful thinking Ron, hate to tell you but Perry has been in and won many more elections than has Bachmann. Other than maybe a slipup on one of his Eagle Scout Merit Badges, if he really had anything in the closet, it would have been outed long ago.

What happens when one of the MSM scummies get one of the Bachmann Foster Kids to spill some beans? You think out of 23, there were zero problems?

Don’t mis-understand, I like Bachmann’s conservativeness, she just needs more time in grade.

Leak? Sweetie, all you have to do is Google. He's an open book, having been "vetted" for over 27 years. It is precisely his record that will see him to the White House and it is twisting you Perry haters in knots! As for stating "in my opinion," I don't believe that is necessary on a blog. I notice when you state your opinion you do not. It is assumed. You're way too sensitive. And I understand. It's crummy when your horse falls short.

Some of you around here are living in la-la land it would seem. The vetting process has only just begun and there are many many miles ahead yet. The digging has just started and who knows what the 'October Surprise' just might bring. Oh, and don't hold your breath I would caution. The elections are a long way off yet and anything can and so often does happen that people don't count on.

OBTW, while I support Bachmann it won't break my heart if she should not prevail in the primary as long as Perry doesn't either. I don't think America could handle another round of Bush-lite. I'd hate to think what a Perry Presidency would gives after what a Bush Presidency gave us last time around.

Bachmann is just more of a solid conservative...Perry has too many non-conservative issues for me

And, if Perry gets the nomination...all the DNC has to do is say “George Bush III” anytime Perry is mentioned...and Obama gets re-elected

The media has tried to ignore, then attack Bachmann, and she is not going away. She just gets stronger. That is what is neede to beat Obama in 2012

Crow is going to be in high demand.

Bachmann is highly unlikely to make past 3rd in the Primaries, if she stays in that long. She should do the common sense thing and go after Franken and then run from a more winnable base in 16.

In the General, if you’re insistant on not going to vote Perry on any condition, you better hope your anti-nobama option is Mutt or else you’ll be pulling the Big D? Really???
Crow is going to be in high demand am bettin.
