Why don’t the go over to the other side of the bay and protest the real social outrages occurring in Oakland?

Stray bullet kills 3-year-old in East Oakland

Matthai Kuruvila, Chronicle Staff Writer

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Oakland — A bullet fired during a drive-by shooting in East Oakland struck and killed a 3-year-old boy who was with his family outside a grocery store on busy International Boulevard on Monday afternoon, police said.

The intended victims, two adults, were also struck by the gunfire but survived with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The shooting occurred just after 1 p.m. on the 6400 block of International Boulevard. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital Oakland, where he was pronounced dead, said Sgt. Holly Joshi, a department spokeswoman.

“It’s brazen and unacceptable,” Joshi said, noting that the child had no connection to the people who were shot. “The child is definitely the victim of a stray round.”

Crowds gathered at the scene as police combed the area for clues. A plastic stroller in the shape of a car was visible in front of the All-Mart, a Latino grocery store near where the shooting happened. There was also a small child’s bicycle at the scene.

“I’m tired of the level of violence when you have an innocent child - a 3-year-old - lost,” Police Chief Anthony Batts said at a news conference at the scene.

Overnight Oakland shootings hurt 6, including kids

Monday, August 15, 2011

(08-15) 10:18 PDT Oakland, Calif. (AP) —

Oakland police are investigating a string of overnight shootings that left six people, including two young children, with injuries.

The three shootings began shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday when a teenager was struck in the hand in west Oakland. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

About 15 minutes later, someone opened fire on a group of adults and children playing outside a house in east Oakland. Police say 27-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were shot, and two children — ages 8 and 6 — also were hurt by bullet fragments.

Actually, we DO want SF to become London. It’s a hell of an indictment of any ‘gimme’ society when they still have riots despite lavish bribes paid to the ‘underclass’.

It also provides an even greater contrast between the productive states and the looter states.

Because the media won’t go to Oakland.

Weird. Twitter feeds from live witnesses are still saying some stops are closed or partially closed (exit only).

Before the ABC feed ran out of battery power they were panning around to several entrances. Most of them were only allowing exit but one was allowing all traffic.

On the scanner you could hear the puzzlement of the BART operators at WTF was going on. Apparently poor communication.

I love this quote form one of the local news stations:

5:12 p.m. About a half dozen men in Civic Center Plaza are screaming at each other about First Amendment rights and free speech.

People were angry that the transit agency cut underground cellular phone service for three hours last week

Boy, were the transit police's faces red when they found out that "cutting cellular phone service" didn't disable those inconvenient cameras....

That's the normal state of BART staff.
