Elections Results from the AP
August 16 Wisconsin recall election results from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

44EAGLE RIVER, Wis (Reuters) - Voters in two Wisconsin State Senate districts head to the polls on Tuesday in the last of nine recall elections triggered by the fight earlier this year over Republican-backed curbs on the union rights of public workers.

In Tuesday's two final special elections, Jim Holperin and Robert Wirch -- two Democrats who opposed the anti-union measure and even fled the state for weeks in an unsuccessful effort to prevent its passage -- are defending their seats.

Holperin seems to be in the tighter race. His rival is Kim Simac, founder of the Northwoods Patriots, a Tea Party group. Though Simac is a political novice, the district has leaned Republican in the three years since Holperin was elected.

No matter who wins, Republican Governor Scott Walker and his Republican allies will retain control of the legislature, where the battle over public workers' union powers was waged earlier this year with public protests, legislative maneuvering and court challenges.

With seven of the nine recalls over, Republicans have managed to keep control of the state senate -- 17 to 16 if they score no wins on Tuesday -- because Democrats failed to unseat three Republican state Senators in the key round of six GOP senate recalls last week.

I had shirttail relatives in Kenosha. I guess the whole town went bust when American Motors closed down. The fact that the union had one shop steward for every 20 workers (10 times the norm of 1/200) didn’t help matters.

Good work this year defending important 2010 gains, WI.

Start working now for 2012, picking good candidates, because you know those union fleebaggers would be working twice as hard with Obama at the top of the ticket!

Tells me never bother to run for office here.

The frustrating part of all that is - their policies and tax-and-spend they force on us sets us up for such issues. Then it’s used against us when we try to do something about it.

I say bravo to her for getting her taxes paid, even if late. More than some high-profile Dems bother to do.

If it were not for Kim I doubt that there would have been a recall of Possum Jim Holperin at all. She did a heck of a lot of organizing to get it this far. I didn’t see a lot of help for her from the republicans until just this last week when the anti-Holperin ads started to show up.

She could have ran a better campaign though. Not showing up for rallies in her support when people expected her to be there did not help at all. I attended the one in Rhinelander and was amazed she was not there to address the large crowd of supporters.

Also, waiting until the last 3 weeks of her campaign to get out some detailed policy positions was just plain negligent.

If you’re going to give Wisconsin an enema, that’s where you’d stick the tube. (I went to college in Kenosha. What a crap heap.)

Looks like she is closing, with 71% of the precincts in 118/166, she trails Holperin 53% / 47%. Is it enough to close the gap altogether and into the lead?

Pray that God will defeat the forces of satanic demoRATs tonight in District 12.

The rest of Oneida, the biggest county came in and she got whacked. Lincoln and Florence counties can’t help here, she’s down 3500 votes. Damn.

Unfortunately perception is reality in politics.

Democrats play dirty. The true facts are less important than what they can spin them as particularly against an unknown candidate.

I can say when I looked into her after a national fundraising appeal, I saw all these competing headlines about her having tax issues while simply trying to find her campaign website. It left a very bad impression.

Well this is a depressing end to the evening, especially after the resounding defeat of the unions & dimTurds last week, even with the loss of 2 of 6 last week. What happened today & tonight? Did the GOP voters in those districts not turn out? I have to believe that if every registered GOP voter would have voted today, the results would have been different. What a disappointment. I just wanted at least one RAT to go down.

Yep, AP called it. We still keep the majority, and did not spend $30 million to do so. My positive spin. But, I do have a frowny face.

Still holding at 78% of the vote and 130/166 districts. What’s happening? Are the RATs coming up with more mystery votes just to make sure?

"I went to college in Kenosha."

Yep, you would know the heart of the place better than anyone.

I found it a road sign on the place to somewhere I don't remember.

Think the point is, union slugs still don't get it.
I have them at my bar, out of work and supporting the union. I don't get it but shut up.
