Harry S. Obama?
Washington Examiner ^ | August 16, 2012 | Michael Barone

Posted on 08/16/2011 6:06:52 PM PDT by gusopol3

But on one policy Truman went further than his top advisers or Dewey's. When the Soviets blocked land access to West Berlin in June 1948, Truman's advisers -- men of the caliber of George Marshall and Omar Bradley -- said that it was impossible to supply food and fuel to Berlin and we should just abandon it.

At a crucial meeting in July 1948 Truman listened to this advice. After others finished talking, Truman said simply, "We're not leaving Berlin." Gen. Lucius Clay, our proconsul in Germany, set about organizing what became the Berlin airlift.

Gen. William Tunner, who had run the wartime airlift from Burma to China, made the Berlin airlift work. Vast quantities of food and coal -- far more than experts had estimated -- were brought into Tempelhof Airport on planes landing in foul weather every 90 seconds. The pilots took to throwing out pieces of candy to the hungry kids lining the runways.

Andrei Cherny, now chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party, tells the story in his book "The Candy Bombers." He argues persuasively that the Berlin airlift -- an example of American strength, determination, technological prowess and generosity -- played a key role in re-electing Truman.

Truman's tough stand against communist aggression played a key part in his upset victory in 1948. Will Barack Obama have a similar accomplishment? Or will he be seen as impotent against our enemies, as was Jimmy Carter?

Dewey ran as the RINO prototype on a platform of increased spending on public housing and expanding Social Security.

Republicans stayed home and the low turnout reflects this.

Should have said “Or will he be seen as our enemy?” Truman took a tough stand against communists...now we have one in the White House.

Obama wouldnt make a pimple on Harry Truman’s arse.

It is a travesty to see Harry Trumans name mentioned in an article about this Muslim loser.

The only thing Obama is good at is spending money we don’t have. Spending like a Rodney King who just hit the Lotto.

Makes you wonder if it was Barone or the editor. Either way, it is a stupid, if common, mistake and totally unacceptable from those who write or edit for a living (i.e. par for the course for the last 25 years).

Truman was a traitor to the US, sold em up the river in favour of the UN, look at the korean conflict, also look how MacArthur was treated after a successful attack. The UN was playing both sides. The secretary general is a communist always has been and Truman was involved in this too. The real heroes always end up dead or disgraced it seems... ie Patton.

MacArthur was way,way out of line. Truman was correct in firing him.

Never a huge fan of Truman, who was the ultimate machine hack. But he was right twice: dropping the bomb, and dropping dugout dug.

Absolute right.

Truman was a traitor to the core. Mac tried to redirect him but was somewhat clumsey in his methods. He was a general, not a very effective politician.

we can disagree, but the fact is, any information from the allies in Korea was fed through the UN directly to the communists, that’s why MacArthur did his surprise attack, and only told a handful of trusted officers, he suspected the other side knew every move they made and they did thanks to whitehouse. If that’s not traitor’s behavior, I don’t know what is.

Someone clearly reads FR. I just reported how similar the Truman situation is to Obama and speculated whether Obama would get a moment like Truman with the Berlin Airlift.

Comparing Obama to Truman is yet another example of the sort of latter-day journalistic idiocy that infects the press of the entire nation.

It’s like comparing Jack Tunney to Bozo the Clown.

So, you are saying that it is OK for a general officer to publicly ridicule the President?

Wow. What a liberal mindset I have. Thanks for clearing that up.

That president definitely need to be ridiculed, and exposed.

Mac did what he did at his own risk, and there was no superior course of action under the circumstances. Truman was every bit as destructive to the entire world as Obama is today.

So, if he did what he did at his own risk, he was risking exactly what happened.

As I said before, I think Truman was nothing more than a hack.

But as they say, you salute the rank not the person.
