“Boogieman, boogieman, just about any of the current system could be adapted to do the same thing.”

You rang?

I was thinking the same thing. However, what I saw before was animation...not a photo like here.

Kinda makes me wonder how many are underway right now? I guess if a number of ships were loitering along the coastlines, the Coasties would be interrogorating them.

I guess that means the lid has to have hinges on it, so the top can swing open ... not too standard for a standard shipping container. Fairly distinctive and recognizable, in fact - even from space.

Yes, you can see that a section of the lid is on hinges, and it is raised along with the launch tubes.

With regard to "distinctive and recognizable," I have doubts about that. Containers aren't extruded out of a single steel slab. There are plenty of gaps, joints, structural elements and such. If done right you can walk on top of that container and not see a thing. People were building undetectable secret passages in stone thousands of years ago. Seeing the seams from space is plain impossible; you probably can't even shove a knife's blade through them (the container has to be waterproof.)

That non-standard container would have to be on the top of the stack on a ship

Alternatively, it may be in the second layer of containers; when time comes to launch the crew removes a couple of empty containers from above and it can then open up.

and exposed from above on a transport truck

Unless covered with tarp, of course. That's not a crime. Many loads on freeways are covered, for one reason or another. But even if not covered, a couple of buckets of paint will make this container indistinguishable from any other.

The main idea of this system is in fact that it can launch from international waters and strike onshore targets. I see it as a very poor man's ICBM.
