Howard Dean: Bush camp will ‘take Perry out’ By Daniel Strauss - 08/17/11 01:59 PM ET

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean predicted that prominent political supporters of former President George W. Bush will throw a critical blow to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s (R) presidential campaign.

“The Bush people don’t fool around, as you know,” Dean said Tuesday night on MSNBC. “You can say a lot of things about Bush’s presidency and his failures as president, but one thing nobody should say [anything] bad about [is] his political team. They know what they’re doing, and they are ruthless, and they are going to take Perry out.” Dean’s comments come as a number of former Bush administration operatives have criticized recent comments Perry has made. Political strategist and Bush adviser Karl Rove said comments Perry made about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke were not “a presidential statement.”

“It’s not smart politics, either,” Rove said on Fox News. “Governor Perry is going to have to fight the impression that he’s a cowboy from Texas. This simply added to it.”

Perry came under fire by prominent Republicans for saying that Bernanke would be treated “pretty ugly” in Texas for deciding to print more money, an action the governor called “almost treasonous.”

The readiness of Rove and other former Bush administration officials to criticize Perry illustrates a longstanding rift between the camps of the two Texas politicians.

In the same interview, Dean said Perry has also made a “bigger mistake than most people think” by pitting his presidential campaign against Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-Minn.).

“This is not a mistake he’s going to get over, and the reason is, that he’s now — he came into this race in competition with Romney and Bachmann, and that’s a winning strategy for Perry,” Dean said. “He is now in competition with Bachmann and not with Romney. That’s a losing strategy for Perry, because they are going to split the right with the far-right vote, and I think this is great news for Mitt Romney.”

Since the Bush camp hates Perry so much according to Dean, isn’t that a bit of a problem for The Boy-Queen to paste Perry with Bush’s mantle?

They were not able to when he ran for governor and they won’t be able to now. However, I am glad that they are trying because this will please a lot of bush haters who are fed up with bambi and make them more likely to vote for Perry if he gets the nod. Bush hatred is still alive and well.

The Bush/Romney people are certainly trying to take Perry out.

It’s probably the only reason, I’m scrutizing all the “open borders” stuff posted here (which, on examination is largely not as represented).

LOL!! The idea is to take Barry out! Notice where they want our focus to be.

Dean said Perry has also made a “bigger mistake than most people think” by pitting his presidential campaign against Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-Minn.).

WOW! Dean doesn't make it subtle either! What about against Mitt, Newt, Cain, Ron's campaign?

Note that Howard Dean is MSNBC’s idea of a “expert” on Republican politics. Howard couldn’t win his own party’s nomination because of his insanity. That tells you all about MSNBC’s idea of an “expert”.

C’mon! The Bush people are not powerful enough to “take out” Rick Perry. Hopefully, his softness toward illegal immigration, Islam and left-wing Democrat Presidential candidates will do the job for them.
I fully support Perry’s comments directed at the lawless Fed chairman, Ben Bernanke. Bob

A lame attempt by Howard Dean, a failed politician who is wholly irrelevant to Republicans, to foment division in the Republican party by pitting former president George W. Bush (who is not involved) against Texas Governor Rick Perry, who’s ‘star’ is rapidly rising in the GOP presidential field. Perry and Bachmann won’t ‘split the conservative vote’ because if Perry continues to surge ahead, at some point Michele Bachmann will concede the race and throw her support to Perry. Of course, Rick Perry could also crash and burn overnight. It happens. However, If it does, I doubt the ‘Bush people’ will be the cause. Howard Dean and his cockamamie theories are a joke. A bad one, at that.

They want him out of the race because Perry doesn’t like Bush either. He doens’t like his policies. He reversed his amnesty position in Texas. Perry will undo much of the RINO mistakes Bush made. Bush was a big-government RINO. Perry is not. The Bushes have already threatened Perry that if he comes out against Bush they will take him out. It’s open warfare. They hate him and want him gone. They tried with running RINO Kay Bailey Hutchinson against him in a recent primary. Miserable failure.

““He is now in competition with Bachmann and not with Romney. That’s a losing strategy for Perry, because they are going to split the right with the far-right vote, and I think this is great news for Mitt Romney.”

Can’t say I agree. He’s going to split the “I believe he can beat Obama vote” with Romney. The sole reason Romney has any support is (1) Name recognition and (2) A lot of R’s think he alone can beat Zero. Perry will take votes from Romney on both of those grounds. He will take votes from Bachman on conservative rhetoric grounds.

“Why in the world would anyone give a dead rat’s patootie what this insane pigmy has to say about anything...let alone internal GOP politicas! HOWARD DEAN???”

Dean may be evil but he’s the guy who engineered the takeover of congress in 2006. More than anyone else, he is responsible for health care being passed.

So don’t underestimate him. He’s a formidable strategist.

That said, anything he says about R’s and the R race is not designed for truth but for public effect. So I give it little credence. What I take from his statement is he wants zero to be able to run against Romney. So he doing what he can to boost Romney’s chances, even if it doesn’t make much sense.

Just me, but I think there should be a rule on FR that anytime Dean is discussed a picture of him mid-scream should be posted. Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhh!!!!

Putting aside the fact that he is insane, I am not sure that Dean’s analysis about Perry and Bachman splitting the conservative vote holds water. To me, at this point, it is not clear where exactly Perry fits in. Is he an establishment RINO political opportunist (read Romney) as some have charged? Is he a fire brand conservative who stands behind the 10th amendment? Or, could it be that Perry is a little of both making him (gasp) a politician? He could end up bridging the gap between Tea Party and Establishment and that is probably what scares the hell out of the Left.

As for Rove, sweet Lord I am sick of that four eyed weenie telling me who is or isn’t making a mistake. This guy will NOT let go of the notion that in order to win a moderate must be the nomineee or someone who appeals to “independents.” This is why he is courting Christie so damn hard. I wish Rove would get it through his thick skull that elections are about choices and he should expend his efforts making sure that there is the clearest choice possible come next election instead of choosing between Obama and Obamalite.

Actually, that would be Rham Emmanuel. Dean was despised by the DCC and shut out of strategy meetins and fund raising. Anyway, their entire “strategy” comprised repeating the “culture of corruption” mantra and celebrating every American death in Iraq while coordinating with the MSM to be sure that the “Civil War” in Iraq was broadcast everynight as the lead story.
