An immigration officer returned home to find gipsies had moved in, ransacked the place and dressed in her clothes. Julia High was even offered a glass of her own wine by the Romanian squatters.

They claimed they had rented the property from her ‘son’ because she had died, and produced a set of fake documents. Miss High, 55, has no son.

This would never happen in the US, when it does though, thankfully OUR law enforcement and ability to own guns would put a quick fix to that.

They Gypsies were just doing to her house what others are doing to the U.K. itself.

I thought the UK chastised us for not teaching that all cultures were equal? Why, “who are we” to judge one culture being superior to another? Golly, as a Brisish citizen; shouldn’t she feel ‘honored’ to host a family of Gypsies, and embrace ‘multi-culturism’?

Why, this is almost satire - in real life.

Reminds me of that commercial:

Except that in a similar situation in this country, the invaders would already have her guns.

There’s only a single reason why the media covered this —it happened to one of the establishment.

If Tom, Dick, or Harry had instead suffered this, we’d never be hearing of it —probably happens every single day.

It’s the same with US border violence —routine as the sun rising for the Average Joe, but bend on hair of Our Betters and all the King’s Horses and Men come running.

Its like the short lived FX series “The Riches” in real life.

That show had real potential but they went overboard and made it completely unbelievable.

Ha! I’ve just sort of begun to get my house cleaned up and uncluttered after 25 years. I guess that will only make it more attractive to squatters. :o)

You’ve got to love it when it happens to an immigration official. HAHAHA!

Kind of the same amount of fun I get when lawyers get sued.

FORTY-five council homes a DAY will have to be built to house the tidal wave of immigrants, a shock report reveals.

Those taxpayers better get busy making more free cheese for all those GIMMEgrants.

Apparently the Brits have some weird laws about “squatting” that keep this from being Burglary, breaking and entering, theft, etc.

Can anybody from the UK enlighten us?

I’ve read about other situations like this recently in the Daily Mail. This immigration official got some swift action from the local police—the people in the other stories weren’t so lucky (or well-connected).

As someone else has posted, the laws in the UK seem to favor the squatters over the landowners.

I'm not from the UK, but I can explain.

In the UK the law says that as long as there is no evidence of breaking and entering (and usually the first thing squatters do is replace the locks so the owners cannot get in, as well as fix any broken windows), and the squatter says that he believes the property was either abandoned or that he was given legal access to the property by someone who represented himself as authorized to do so, then it is a matter of civil litigation as to who is entitled to the use of the property.

The law presumes that whoever has possession of a key to the property is the rightful owner until another claimant to the property proves their title in court.

Once the real property owner wins the court case, they then have the right to initiate eviction proceedings and the squatters have 30 days to leave the property, unless they get an extension because of hardship.

Once evicted, they are not liable for any civil damages or for any criminal action - they are are free and clear.

Squatting has become a popular pastime in the UK because if squatters can get inside a home and quickly erase any evidence of breaking and entering, they have a rent-free place to live for at least three months with no legal consequences of any kind.

Homeless “Advocates” told their clients to go down to Cape Cod in the winter and break into rental cottages. When the owners went to open the place in the Spring, it took three weeks to evict them.
