Texas Gov. Rick Perry, under questioning from voters in recent days, has switched positions on a 2007 executive order he issued mandating the vaccination of all young girls before they enter sixth grade to ward off cervical cancer.
Mr. Perry's order that Texas school girls receive the vaccine, Gardasil, made by Merck & Co., was overturned by the state legislature and never got off the ground. But it still has roiled conservatives and Christian groups for years.
After long defending the decision, Mr. Perry has apologized repeatedly for the order since launching his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. As recently as his 2010 gubernatorial re-election bid, Mr. Perry touted the vaccine's medical efficacy and the lives of young women it saved.

Perry sings a different tune now that he’s running for president.
What he did was bad as a matter of principle and since the 2007 controversy questions have been raised about the drug’s safety.
There was a campaign contribution to Perry from the company that made the drug (6,000 dollars).
A lot of money is now being gathered to fund his presidential campaign. Who is it from and what are the contributors going to get in return.
Just follow the rino corporate welfare trail for the answer..

Move over Slick Willard, here comes Slick Rick... Pay no attention to my statist liberal policies as Governor, since I’m running for President, I’m a Conservative now ! Honest ! Al Gore can vouch for me, I was his campaign manager after all...
I think this is a huge nail in the Perry run for POTUS.
Slick-Rick Perry is a fraud.
Yes, but that was the old *arch-conservative* AlGore before he got taken over by the evil Clintonoids.
Just ask the Perry folk, they'll tell you all about it :^)
Slick-Rick called this a 'mistake'.
Should we expect him to make the same admission about his pro illegal immigration/in-state tuition position? Will he say it was a 'mistake' to then go to Mexico to brag about it? Will he say it was a 'mistake' to condemn Arizona's anti-immigration law? Will he say it was a 'mistake' to oppose the border fence? And will he say it was a 'mistake' to oppose E-Verify, a federal verification program that prevents illegal immigrants from landing state jobs? If he thinks it will get him votes he will because that's what flip-flopping poseurs do.
Still perpetuating that lie, eh? Shame, shame.
I wish they'd tell me where and how to get those DNC checks we're supposed to be getting for exposing Perry for the RINO that he is. I've been posting about Perry's liberal record for a week now and haven't received a single check. :-(
Yes. Thank you for the post. It’s a much more accurate representation of the truth than what the Perry haters spout.
At least you’re willing to admit you’re working for the liberals against the Republicans. That’s more than most of the Perry haters on this site will admit.
I don't hate anyone. I'm just tired of the Republican Party nominating loser RINOS.
Maaaaan, this DUDE is SLICK!! Waaaaay SLICK!
Hate??? I merely check the facts. It is going to get worse. I have no idea why Perry is running with his record.
Makes me think that he is a stalking horse. His running makes no sense....
Watch out, the raving nutters will take you for real, LOL!
See post #13, one already has. :-)
MB’s last congressional race pulled in 13.2 million...
“Bachmann brought in an eye-popping $13.2 million during the campaign, shattering the previous fundraising record for House candidates and eclipsing even the totals for many Senate campaigns, which are typically more expensive to run.”
goto opensecrets.org to find out who all is giving.
Can’t be!! The Perry-bots have declared Gardasil, TTC, and illegal immigration to be dead subjects.
:)
:-)
I am no Myth fan...
C’mon, Doc. Just because you posted the Slick Rick Revisionist History Talking Point Du Jour doesn’t mean I swallow it. The SS Perry is leaking badly.
The media loves the Myth of Willard. He’ll be D.O.A. soon enough.
I have no dog in this hunt... Don’t even care. I am prepared for 4 more years of Obozo.
What I do care about is taking the majority in the US Senate.
And no more stinky pinky (Harry Reid) doing whatever he pleases.
Having control of the House and Senate is going to be the best victory for 2012.
And Perry is a POC... you betcha..
And since you asked

It seems there are no longer men of principle in politics.
I believe there are some women of principle though!
Now I see why you are prepared for four more years of Barry.
YOU WANT HIM to WIN!
“you betcha..”
I’ve been seeing that phrase a lot. Is it some secret codeword, spoken by supporters of a candidate yet undeclared... someone with true honesty and virtue? I betcha!
Come on Sarah!
Wow...
But the mea culpa might instead be a blood in the water moment that ironically generates the type of feeding frenzy they had hoped to avoid. It picks at the Gardasil mandate scab and renews interest in the original events. It also raises a whole host of new questions, not the least of which is why did he spend 4 years proudly defending his actions, even to the point of maligning his Gardasil critics, only to admit a mistake days after entering the presidential race.
If Malkin's "Governor Gardasil" sticks, Perry could end up slow bleeding through the primaries. Regardless, this issue is not going to go away soon.
Folks, I am far from a RINO, been to every Texas Republican State Convention since ‘92, served two terms on Rules Committee.
I didn’t oppose the Gardisil item on grounds of promoting promiscuity, I opposed it (while encouraging my step-daughter, an adult, to get it) because it was an intrusion on individual rights.
You non-Texans need to take a closer look at Perry. This Conservative Republican has spent more time opposing Perry policies over the last decade than supporting them.
Did you like the Kelo decision? You would have loved the Trans-Texas Corridor. Texas Conservatives fought this rascal through two terms of Legislature, would have been the largest eminent domain land grab in American history. Perry fought FOR that tooth and nail.
I'm always amazed at how cheaply politicians can be bought.
I'll make sure not to make the mistake of voting for him.
Then, when we end up with either President Romney or President Obama 2.0, we will be able to thank the Conservatively Holier Than Thou crowd.

..... if Palin does not run but Perry does, he'd probably suck all the air out of the race. Either way, ..... Perry would all be excellent alternatives to Obama the commie. Anyone but RINO Romney the big government chief architect of CommieCare!

Just one amongst many.
LLS
You think $6000 contributions pull this much sway? Each individual can give $5000 adding primary and general election max amounts. I seriously doubt any governor is making major policy changes for $6000.
The order was in 2007...
the article you are citing is from 2009.
If the hazards were known (proven) in 2007 then I might fault Perry for his order, but ...if the issue didn’t come to light until later then not so much.
I guess so was running Gores campaign, being a democrat, embracing Mexico’s open border dream in a official statement by Perry himself and on and on it goes, but now, oh now, he’s got it all right, uh huh ...
Keep reminding us. Most of us aren't familiar with Gov. Perry's history.
BS. A mistake is when you dial a wrong phone number, not force women to take a vaccine.
