Perry Says Vaccine Order Was Mistake
WSJ ^ | 081811 | ALICIA MUNDY

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, under questioning from voters in recent days, has switched positions on a 2007 executive order he issued mandating the vaccination of all young girls before they enter sixth grade to ward off cervical cancer.

Mr. Perry's order that Texas school girls receive the vaccine, Gardasil, made by Merck & Co., was overturned by the state legislature and never got off the ground. But it still has roiled conservatives and Christian groups for years.

After long defending the decision, Mr. Perry has apologized repeatedly for the order since launching his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. As recently as his 2010 gubernatorial re-election bid, Mr. Perry touted the vaccine's medical efficacy and the lives of young women it saved.

Gardasil mandate.....just another honest mistake, like the Texas DREAM Act, TTC, the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and the Texas Enterprise Fund, being palsy-walsy w/ Muslims.....all honest mistakes.......

Heh....I hear "Honesty is The Best Policy" is embroidered on all of Perry's underwear. LOL.

Voters are beginning to see a candidate w/ many frayed edges. Admittedly, he looks good, at first.....poised, handsome, glib, in command, personable, nice hair.

Then the questions surface.

I just don't think Perry's swaggering, Big D attitude plays well outside cattle country.

Having control of the House and Senate is going to be the best victory for 2012.

The President makes SCOTUS nominations. Bush gave us a couple of great ones. Obama has given us a couple of horrible ones. A few justices are getting up in years and Ginsburg has health issues.

Yeah, Perry's got some "splainin' to do". This 'Gardasil mandate' is backtrack #1.

But he's still got The DREAM Act, Open Borders (i.e.: AZ Illegal Law Wrong) and .. his endorsement of Fruity ROOTY hanging over his head. And how he will be able to spin those will require magical powers.

ILLEGALS, sanctuary cities and DREAM Acts have affected me personally, so I'm ticked to start off with right there. But ROOTY?!? That scares the hell out of me.

How any Texan, let alone the Governor, could embrace a gun grabbing, anti freedom, abortion loving, DRAFT DODGING, Northeastern LIBERAL, is just stupefying.

(and if I hear he was 'America's mayor' I'll go BERSERK. That power hungry fascist never was "my mayor" - period!)

===============================================

REFERENCES Governor Perry cleared the way for construction to begin in Texas when he vetoed several bills passed by the Legislature that would have stalled the project. The texas Legislature voted a two-year moratorium, and voted a redefinition of eminent domain -- Perry vetoed them. [On] at least one of those measures, he waited until the Texas Legislature was out of session so it couldn't even override his veto. The Federal Highway Administration's lawyer wrote letters threatening the Texas Legislature to cut off federal highway funds if they got in the way of this Trans-Texas Corridor.

NOTE WELL Perry used the power of eminent domain to take property from Texans to give to Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, SA, a Spanish transportation company, in its successful bid to develop State Highway 121 into a toll road through Collin and Denton counties ("trade road" is four football fields wide)----approved by the Texas Transportation Commission, is the first privatization of a Texas toll road.

Bracewell & Giuliani LLP (Rudy Giuliani's Texas-based law firm with global connections) is acting as project counsel to Cintra with respect to the 50-year concession from the Texas Department of Transportation.

What makes the Gardasil issue even worse is that he took a big campaign contribution from the producers of Gardasil.

My niece has a friend whose daughter was severely damaged by Gardasil.

Gardasil was not sufficiently researched enough to try and make it a mandate. The opt out clause was ridiculous.

As a born and raised Texan (and cattle raiser), I can tell you it doesn’t play all that well IN cattle country, either.

Heh---love it. Straight from the horse's mouth......as they'd say in Texas.

I guess it isn’t that big, but the point is that it really doesn’t, and won’t, play well with the people.

I know Obama does this kind of thing daily and on a far grander scale, but we don’t like it when he does it.

Unsafe? It's been 5 years (2006) since the vaccine Gardasil was approved for women (ages 9+).

Unsafe? It's since been approved for males (2009) against HPV-caused cancers in them too.

$6,000 is pennies for his gubernatorial campaign war chest of $100 million.

Perry protected parental rights by ensuring they could opt-out their children.

Unfortunately, based on a contribution list, you can pretty well make any politician look like he’s on the take for one thing or another. The Gardisel thing is much more complicated than Perry took money from Merck or a Perry guy used to work for Merck. Like all state politics, there are competing and conflicting interests, make the final decisions much less black and white than are often portrayed.

It's your daughter and you want to protect her..... and Merck should have known about side effects-(& I'm sure they did!)...

..but it took Rick Perry to push this....whether your beef is with him or not.

That’s not a reliable site for medical information. The FDA&CDC have confirmed that there have been no deaths attributed to the vaccine.

A politician who admits he made a mistake and apologies for it! That doesn't happen very often, if ever! That is a great breath of fresh air! WOW!

True, but we need to win this time. I hate for things like this to derail our chances.

Politics is dirty business. We don’t have the media on our side.

My husband was trying to get me to see the reality that whether we like it or not, most people watch the MSM and pay attention to little other than clips or campaign ads prior to elections. There is no getting away from it.

I get my news here and mostly over the internet.

Hopefully this time the misery index will make people ignore the attacks and vote to save their skin.

Many times a vaccine starts out as...optional..but quickly becomes mandatory....you can count on it!

Years ago HepB was being pushed by my children's pediatrician....and I wanted no part of it....

...Before.... HepB was administered if someone was going to some 3rd world country....

..but they were pushing it for potentially sexually active kids!----my kids were not sexually active and were not planning on being sexually active until marriage!---This push had nothing to do with my kids.....it was percentages & lifestyle --the new paradigm they were pushing!!!

I found it insulting to parents who didn't fit within their predetermined vision of 'every child needs this!'.

I was told it was 'optional'....but they sure did push it.....soon after it became mandatory!

Today HepB is mandatory if you want to get your newborn out of the hospital!!----and beleive me findng a pediatrician to take this child is almost impossible if you don't have ALL the shots the hospital requires!!

That's why I reacted viscerally to Rick Perry's mandatory vaccine!

Well goodness gracious, a politician who listens to voters and changes his or her mind. Much unlike the “We have to pass the bill to see what’s in it” that rammed obummercare down our throats when san fran pig lousy ran the house.

Why I reacted viscerally to Rick Perry's mandatory vaccine.......has nothing to do with kids.....it's lifestyle, pushing the new paradigm ..... insulting to parents who didn't fit within their predetermined vision .....vaccine starts out as optional..but quickly becomes mandatory, dictated by a "we know what's good for you" government.....

Lifestyle---that's the key word. Fits right into Obama's socialist "Safe School" programs for kids----starts off with inculcating our youth with the gay lifestyle and proceeds to other travesties.

Let's give the guy a break.....he accomplished every goal he set for himself in college (/snix).

Perry's college goals:

No. 1...to graduate.

No. 2... to be Yell Leader (cheerleader).

No. 3....to be in the Ross Volunteers---Texas A&M Corps of Cadets.
